Denzel Dumfries

He can't defend to save his life. A lot of times he's making recovery tackles instead of being in a good defensive position. Laird is a better prospect if he stays fit

Considering Laird has yet to play a single game at the highest level - that is a bold statement to make

as someone who sees the guy more than I want to, where on EARTH do these numbers come from? 30M? no wait... 50M!?????

spending anything over 20M should be investigated for laundering. and no, not because he's an inter player, they have more than a few I rate at significant numbers... just not him

I agree.

He has gotten a lot of praise in Dutch media after the last two international games... About his role in the build up from the back, as well as how he was played Hazard against Belgium...

There are absolutely zero claims from whatever direction that either De Vrij or De Ligt should start ahead of him, which is saying a lot..

I think this was meant for the Timber thread?

He was impressive in the last international tournament if I remember correctly too.

See us linked to him for January or Summer. Should definitely consider it. 26-27 good age range, good player for Inter and he's tall, athletic, a great passer and can score goals.

I think he's everything United need on the right side and would make our right flank as strong if not stronger than our left side.

Sign him up, obviously there's talents like Gusto but Dumfries is ready now, unless Gusto has an absolutely blistering campaign I think Dumfries is the one.

Still see him as the number one, he's a real athlete, former winger knows what kind of ball to put in the box.

Unless we're going for a younger age prospect then sure I get it. We have Dalot who is younger though.

If we're targeting younger players then its Frimpong or Gusto

Not an upgrade over Dalot and Laird is more talented. Definitely more of a wingback than fullback
How long is this myth of laird's talent going to continue? If he was that good he'd be in the first team or like garnancho, getting some apperances.

How does he perform regularly for his club? I seem to remember he wasn't very highly rated in these parts. I'd be a bit hesitant in pining for him if it's the case that he's average at club level but goes up a few levels during tournaments - wary the Milan Baros syndrome! :nervous:

He performs well but again, inter mostly play him to his strenghts like Holland. Think of him less as a fullback, and more of an off-ball right forward who can cover the flank defensively at an acceptable level...

He will do great for Conte at Tottenham.

Royal is so shit, senior citizen Dani Alves was picked ahead of him for the World Cup.

Yeah its the main position we need an upgrade IMO, could probably do with getting rid of Sessegnon on the other flank as well whilst we're at it. Would love someone like Dumfries, ideal Conte wing back.

He was, and it earned him his transfer to Inter. Then everyone said he wouldn't make it at that level, but now he's important for them. So now he's impressing at a tournament again (well, this game, anyway), and people are talking about how the next step up will be too much for him. :)

There will be a next step up that's actually too much for Dumfries, but it's funny that every single time he goes to another club (also before Inter), the majority opinion is that's he's too limited for the next level - and every single time he's instead earned himself a promotion. Good for him! (Seems like a decent guy, too.) :)

He doesn't look on the eye. Not very fast, not very skillfull, bulldozes his way through with his strength. But he delivers when needed. Not sure what to make of him to be honest.

Yeah, it's also grossly insulting to a player who plays top flight Italian football and a full international, that a lad that's playing for a mid table championship side is supposedly better than him.

It's this weird Caf thing of extremely overrating every player from our youth academy.

How on earth anyone could say Laird is better than a proven international is beyond me but you also had people going into meltdown why Garnacho isn't posting for Argentina too after his half a dozen first team games

The other day with Croatia playing Morocco. I run into a few Inter fans on Twitter insulting their board for selling Hakimi & Perisic. I guess that says something negative about their current wing backs (Dumfries, Gosens, Darmian...)

On the other hand, Bayern and Inter have had players in all WC finals since 1982. Netherlands have players from both clubs.

it's more that Hakimi and Perisic are/were amazing. Dumfries is good enough, but he's nowhere near Hakimi. And they really struggled with the loss of Perisic earlier in the season before Dimarco emerged as a creative force on the left

He is actually. I was one of his haters. Not technical enough, brazen workhorse. The guy was laughed at when he stated that he wanted to play for the DNT (orange) but his mental ability is beyond me. He steps up and he improves . Now i actually am one of his supporters. He shows that you can do it if you put your back in to it. Without becoming an arrogant twat

I was reading yesterday that he works with a mental coach actually. He's also rather open about that and the mental pressures he has to deal with, specifically to help create more openness around the subject (as he said).

I've seen him dos, tres, quatro, five times and I don't see anything special.
Sign him if you want another Donny kind of player.

I feel like I'm taking a crazy pill here. "Worse than Laird", " Donny kind of player ", " Not very fast", etc. He is one of the most in-form right back in the world nowadays. I put him below Hakimi, Cancelo, Reece James, and TAA.

We must've had a 'Championship level' comment in there too or the Caf is going downhill.

Like i have said before. I do not mind if he as a full back keep playing as a right winger. Keep running up and scoring goals. No matter how much his teammates saying = Bro, keep holding back a bit.

Even he will left his space open by keeping running forward and play more as a RW/RM. As long as he contribute that his team score more goals and win the match. You can't really complain.
