Dele 'Muhammad' Alli | Walker takes the finger from Dele | FIFA open disciplinary proceedings

If the Perisic saga has taught me anything, it's that there's a very narrow age gap for when you're an actual man in football.

17-24: Young boy, learning the game, makes mistakes etc.

25-28: Actual man.

28 onwards: Geriatric waste of flesh.

I think this can be split down further:

17-24: Young boy, learning the game, makes mistakes etc. "Lots of potenshall"

25-27.5: "He's just not very good"

27.5-28: Peak, will never play better than right now

28 onwards: Geriatric waste of flesh

So much fuss about nothing. Who cares if he gets banned or not. England will still qualify. Even Spurs forum wouldn't have discussed so much about this.

Alli has corrupted an entire generation of kids tonight and he should receive a lengthy ban and a fine plus jail time.

Too true, the minutes the teachers back is turned middle fingers will be going up mimicking their hero. Classrooms are going to need CCTV with instant replay.

If FIFA deem it to be towards the Ref, apparently he faces a three game ban and will miss the first world cup group game.

Silly twat.

Its the people who were offended by a middle finger, on the fecking tv and that wasn't even aimed at them are the ones would should be apologizing.

All the hype around Ali has me baffled. Any time I've watched him he's been meh.

He should probably get banned for it, it really looked like it was aimed at the ref. It's not about "the kids" but showing respect to the officials. I'm not buying the "it was aimed at Walker" excuse.

You clearly haven't seen the footage clearly showing Walker and Ali gesturing to each other, yes it was an incredibly stupid thing to do during a televised international but the footage clearly shows it wasn't at the ref.

I think this has been blown a bit out of proportion. I'm sure FIFA would rather see this than a leg breaking tackle, a dive or spitting in someone's face for example. When you compare it to a lot of things that happen on a football pitch it's fairly down the scale.
But then there's a reason 7,000 referees leave the game in the UK each year, with less than that number taking it up. And that reason is abuse, both verbal physical that they receive from players. Again this is down the scale, but it's petulant and it's not the first disciplinary issue he's had. He does however need to make sure it's one of the last because England struggle enough at major tournaments as it is without losing one of their best players to something as stupid as this!

Simple way to solve most of this is to mic the refs up, I really don't see why they still haven't brought this in. I can guarantee most back chat and mobbing of the ref would stop.

Fair enough then, I only saw the two angles on tv last night. If it's at Walker then it's no big deal, pretty funny even. He's a weird fecker though, got tackled then storms up looking angry and gives the finger to his mate. Is this some sort of Tourette's style tic that he has? The context of the whole thing is bizarre.

Maybe it's therapy for him. "Every time you're angry, Dele, just flip off your mate Kyle and breathe."

I'm not condoning what he did he was an absolute idiot, but he's not the first or last lol.

I agree.

My biggest problem with Alli last night was again how poor he is for England, it's a recurring issue. The middle finger thing is nothing.

Agree he has been poor but the way the team is setup and operates is terrible, I never thought I'd say it but the midfield is crying out for Lallana. The midfield needs a real spark of creativity.

At least he shows he cares and some emotions. Great character from Dele. He also had a hard childhood, this needs to be calculated in. Personally, i dont think there was much in it. 20 years ago this was the norm.
Many players have had hard childhoods. This isn't a free reign to act like a snide Cnut all the time

Dele has a bit of an attitude, which he has got to control....

Cannot afford a red card in a World Cup knockout game.....I like his excuse though...Walker my ass, everyone knows who the finger was meant for..

I agree mate but cost implications down the pyramid would be a major obstacle surely?
I've always followed my local team and more so the last 4/5 years since I've ran out of people to go and see United with (babies/ weddings/ houses etc!!).
And the way the refs get treated by the players, managers and fans can be really bad at times. Now don't get me wrong, there are odd refs at that level that are very 'look at me' but most of them are just trying to do a job and like everything in life, occasionally mistakes will be made. There are posters all over the walls in the changing rooms of non-league clubs about respecting the referee but they just get ignored.
Again I would say that a one finger salute is hardly crime of the century, and some will say it wasn't directed at the ref anyway but if it's happening in a full international then the semi-pros will feel like they have a right to behave in the same way.

You set out to find photos of Utd players giving the finger during matches, why I don't know, and even then you could only find one example

I don't see how it's precious , this a United forum and some fans acting like he shouldn't be locked up? There was one of Beckham too. Plenty of other footballers just didn't think it was relevant.

Meh is this really a big deal? Mountain out of mole hill imo. Yes he is silly to have done it but it's not exactly a hanging offence.

No big deal ....just a little arsewipe trying to act tough

England and Spurs are wasting Dele playing him in that advanced position in my opinion. Reminds me of how Pogba looks when we play him further up the field. Constantly receiving the ball with his back to goal and in tight areas which I don't think suits his abilities or his physical frame.

Very rarely do players come along who can dictate the pace of a football game and who also have the physical power to play as a 'proper' CM in the Premier League. Pogba is one, and Dele Alli to me could be another.

With Matic being 29, I would absolutely love us to get Griezmann done and then spend whatever it takes next season to get Dele at United to play alongside Pogba in the same formation we have played so far this season

As if that was directed at Walker, just digging himself a bigger hole.

Alli's best position is higher up the pitch like Poch used. His movement is good and he gets into lot of goal scoring positions. He would be wasted as 'proper CM' playing deep.

Alli's best position is as close to the striker as possible, where he can use his instincts and his finishing ability. He's not a CM, and he's terrible when forced into that roll. He's also not really a creator, which is what Southgate seems to want him to be.

Alli is an elite finisher in and around the box with terrific movement. An old school "second striker" if you like - and he's EXCELLENT in that role. England has no creative force to work with him though, like Eriksen does for him at Spurs ... so he's sort of an unused tool just wandering around the pitch. It's painful to watch.
