Declan Rice

Defensively and positionally he looks very good. One moment the commentators picked on where he dropped deep to intercept a cutback towards Lacazaette was an example of just having a strong awareness of protecting the defence.

I've can't remember seeing so happy to have scored a goal. I'm actually pleased for him and I didn't even care about him 15 mins ago

Sky need to tone it down though. Yeah he had a good game but they've spent 10 minutes creaming over him like he's the next Messi.

Arsenal weren't exactly a test for him today, whatever happened to Oxford? He looked a talent as well

I know this might sound bitter but really what did he do apart from the goal (which was gifted to him by Xhaka's banter defending.)

We were abysmal in attack and Lacazette's chance in the first half was the only time we threatened their goal in the entire match. He was steady but I saw nothing outstanding about him.

Good player but no more than that.

It's like watching the Eric Dier hype train from 3 years ago all over again except with a slightly worse player.

Never, ever going to be good enough to start games in midfield at the top level.

Those that think this lad is the answer to our issues in defensive midfield are well ahead of themselves. He’s more limited than the likes of Schneiderlin on the ball.

90m? He's worth about 9m. If he was from Greece or Serbia he'd struggle to make Westham's bench. Don't get the hype.

He's alright but if United actually break their record on him

Why? He's shite. His passing is appalling.

His passing is decent but not his main asset, which is reading the game and breaking up attacks, which he's been doing all game.

He's being played in a key position in one of the best international teams in the world. His club manager, who's won titles in this country and abroad, also rates him highly. And he's only 20.

Thought he did alright but was punished for that one hospital pass.

88 touches
74 passes
92% pass completion
5/6 long passes
2 tackles
3 interceptions
4 clearances
1 blocked shot
0 dispossessions against
1 unsuccessful touch

He barely played first team football. He still needs to learn a lot. Not sure he is the DM we need, we need better on the ball for sure. One good or bad game doesnt change that

If Declan Rice is lucky one day he will be as good as David Batty. Throws his body about but I don't see anything special about that. He looks a million miles away from the Carrick replacement we need to make our midfield function. In many ways he's just a younger, more mobile version of Matic.

More expensive than Pogba!?

Rice will have better days. Ross Barley didn't even make the squad for Russia 2018, was a total laughing stock on redcafe, but now looks a key player.

We should buy him for 100m so that we have pretty much the full collection of all the worst England regulars with Maguire, Lingard, Rashford and Rice. Oh if only we hadn't let Keane go.

I'm joking.

I think.

Seems very average so will fit in well with us when we spend 60 million on him

It's too much of a gamble to lay out 80/90m in (reported) transfer fees and wages on Rice from what I've seen so far. The English/Utd tax is pushing up his price by at least 50/60%. Offer 100m for Kante instead and test the Chelsea's owners resolve.

He’d be our 2nd best midfielder if he joined us tomorrow and he still has plenty of room to grow and develop.

I'd say why was he SO fashionable in the first place? Ok player but as noted above, if he was from a different country, there'd be nowhere near the hype or the ridiculous prices bandied around.
I've honestly never seen him play many minutes. People said he drove forward well with the ball while being a strong defender. He is still very young to be fair

He's not shit, he's not great. He's a decent player, young, ok in more than one position (which apparently is better than a player who's a 'specialist').

Even with the ridiculous leaps in prices in the last year or two, I wouldn't pay more than £40m for him atm. Some club may gamble and he might turn out to be something but I don't think we're in a place to gamble, I'd rather we pay top prices for 2-3 proven players for midfield/attack.... I'm ok (sic) with overpaying when it's definite quality and will improve us.
