He doesn’t just sit back v top sides but any side that steps up on West Ham’s midfield
I've always seen him as CB in midfield, I don't think he's ever changed my mind.
I think Poch could use him how he used Dier and get the best out of him, but as you say, I don't see where he fits in elite level midfields.
Can't believe the hype surrounding this guy, he's bang average. A master sideways passer who got completely shown up today by Amrabat. Hoping Arsenal do us a favour by snapping this guy up. I've just got a bad feeling he'll end up here.
(a) we're not covering Chelsea's outlay, we'll pay 50m tops for Mount, probably even less.
I'm fine with us getting Mount and Rabiot assuming Arsenal get Rice and Chelsea get Caicedo.

Really think he ends up at Arsenal. London club, CL football, plus he could play as defensive midfielder or higher up the pitch and with Xhaka leaving and the added need for competition/cover with Partey, he just fits in. We also seem to be the most interested in signing him. Its not a surprise we are the shortest odds with the bookmakers to sign him. Our reported bid also seems to be a matter of fact, no dithering or casual interest, it seems a foregone conclusion we will make a bid of atleast over 90m.

Watching the final this evening I honestly cannot fathom how anyone can justify that Rice is a world class player or worth anywhere near 100m.
Bonaventura played rings round him in the first half, and ghosted past him to score in the second - Bonaventura is a decent player but he couldn't make the grade at Milan for feck sake, that alone should put it in perspective.
I can't say I've ever rated him particularly highly however reading the comments about his underlying qualities that go unnoticed, I was half looking forward to seeing these qualities tonight in a game which if you believe the hype, he should lead by example and absolutely boss a mid-table Italian side.

I'd agree with other posters, I'd rather spend a quarter of the money and get Amrabat rather than spiffing 100m on what is realistically a slightly above average midfielder.
I was on the fence with Rice prior to tonight, willing to give the benefit of doubt against my own eye test from watching him, however after this game I am firmly in the belief that he is not in the world class bracket, nowhere near, and certainly not worth a sniff near 100m.

I don't think its a bad thing either. Watched Rice all year and happy he is being priced out of United as he is a midfield version of Maguire
Massive threat for Juve in the box this season. Never rated him but this season I felt a right mug watching him in the Serie A. One of the best b2b midfielders in football right now.

Why is Tierney being sold? It is mainly down to his injuries? I'd take him at his best over Zinchenko any day and he's obviously younger too.
It’s odd but I thought he was older- seems to have been around forever. A very good player, too, and 28 yo means there’s a few good years left. Would not be averse.
I wouldn’t be averse to Rabiot, Mount and then a young midfielder like Vermeeren.

He is a traditional fullback and with our formation and style our fullbacks need to be able to invert. Kiwior at left back will also be preferred to him next season in adiditonal to ZInchenko. Tierney is a touchline wingback, he will be sold very likely, but he wont be given away. 35-45m is the desired fee.
We are at the stage now where players who dont fit the system are going to be moved on. Tierney is a good player but not a fit.

If he was called Declano Ricetti, wore an alice band, and played in a European league, people would be raving about him.
He's an international standard midfielder, and he has been playing well for quite a few seasons now in the Prem. It's time for him to step up and he would do fantastically well at a big club.

If rumours are to be believed we could be moving on Fred, McTominay, and Donny. We would then need these players replaced.
Tierney is easily worth 35-40m. If we played with touchlien wingers I would bu him for that money. As for Balogun. He just scoted 21 league goals for Reims in Ligue 1. Born and raised in London but has committed his allegiance to the USA - huge marketing potential in addiiton to being a top player. Inter Milan, AC Milan, Napoli and Leipzig are interested. We might even get 40m for him. Some Arsenal fans dont want him sold and reckon he would dislodge Jesus as our striker next season.
Newcastle and Villa want Tierney, Newcastle especially is the strong link. Although I'm not sure we would get £40M, think you might be talking more like £30M -£35M.
Same with Balogun. I know what you say about Middlesbrough, but he was very young and inexperienced then. I could say the same about Amad at Rangers but he's lit up the Championship with Sunderland. They just needed more game time and experience to let their talent go.
However, again I think £40M is over optimistic, and again I think you are talking £30M tops.
Chelsea might get the higher fees quoted but we aren't great at selling at all.

I really don’t think he’s what we need. Find midfielders with quick feet, low centre of gravity, that lovely weight of pass instead. Mount sounds more exciting to me than this fellow. At least he’s an energiser bunny who has good quality on the ball.
I’m not sure why he’d want to go to arsenal, unless he really wants to stay in London.

He’s easily the most overrated player in Europe. Euro 2021 he got absolutely schooled in the final as he was so limited with ball. I don’t think he’s that much better than then.
Carrick was miles, miles better than Rice. Was really highly rated at youth levels and did very well when he moved to Tottenham. Rice got let go by Chelsea because he wasn’t good enough technically. No doubt he’s developed but I think he’s still very limited with the ball.
He really isnt. Hes one of the best at his particular role (as per video below). The stats speak for themselves. Theres a reason bayern, arsenal and utd are interested. Because hes a top quality player.

I’m not really sold on him but sometimes the step up is what some players need to hit their potential. He has just captained West Ham, a huge English club to a European trophy. If you compare him to someone like Ashley Young or Carrick when we signed them. Both unassuming English players for mid table teams who really stepped up when Man United came calling. Maybe he could be what we need, although I can understand the apprehension given the price tag, I’d be interested to see what Ten Hag does with him
Upgrade on what we have already. However, there are more urgent needs.
