Gaming Death Stranding

I really loved this game. Definitely in my top 5 PS4 games despite a few faults here and there (Kojima you need an editor!)

Just picked this up. 2 hours in and I really like it. There’s something very peaceful and absorbing about the walking through the landscape, especially when some of the soundtrack kicks in.

Got my attention that’s for sure. The lighting and the colour palette make it look incredible.
The pacing is a fundamental aspect of this game which just perfectly hits the spot for me in both combat moments and just peacefully exploring the terrain while delivering pizza's. :D

I would go further and say this is comfortably my favourite game not only on the PS4 but ever.
I just wished the story lasted longer.

I just stopped playing this, and honestly I don't know why.

I had just got the zip wire blueprint and I havent turned it back on since

I have a few games I’ve done that with and I’m trying to get them done before ps5 comes out.

Horizon Zero Dawn
RDR2
Resi 7

Death stranding though, at this early point I’m really enjoying the experience and it sucked me in straight away. Really absorbing.

Are you sure we aren't the same person? I dropped all three of those games as well.

Just finished this today. Was enjoyable. Weird story, but enjoyable. Grind and all.
I found it paid off in the end and I couldn't wait to get into it every day. But certainly early on and perhaps at the start of the mountain sections it did feel like quite a grind.

Got this on sale on PS store. It's basically fetch quest after fetch quest across a dreary empty landscape but there's something addictive about it.

Absolutely loved this game. It's not for everyone due to the nature of the gameplay but was completely for me. The tension, he slow burn, the feeling of being alone and at odds with nature which was desolate but also calming at the same time.

I absolutely loved this game and getting the best scores and working out the best routes to get that S rank was insanely addictive.

Yeah, I got it a few months back, started it and really liked it. I keep meaning to go back to it but keep getting snagged by other stuff.

I did find walking accross the landscape accompanied by that great soundtrack almost hypnotic.

I'm not Kojima biggest fan(Although MSGV is a ton of fun)but I'm half through Death Stranding and it's basically the equivalent of Tarkovsky Stalker. Its genuinely incredible piece of art. Also jesus Low Roar are a brilliant band.

Disclaimer - A lot of my gameplay time I've been zoned out on diazepam which has really intensified the whole experience.

No, it really is terrific. There are weaknesses which I won't touch upon since you're still playing, but all in all, this was a unique gaming experience which had me invested the whole way through. The gameplay mechanics really worked for me, and the world building was also excellent.

I bought Low Roar's album 'Once in a long long while' after completing this game. A very good album.

I spent the whole game wondering when Chvrches song would start playing in game and it was only a credit song, for feck sake. Can't even use it to customise structures.

Finished this a couple of days ago.

So.....

The main story line was imo completely up and down, most of it I loved - Mama(My favourite one in the game), Fragile, Deadman, Mads Mikkelsen character and of course Sam along with BB("C'mon, Lou, one last delivery'' killed me)but even with the weaker parts(''Princess Beach'' :wenger:)I always found it interesting. But the gameplay is where it really goes onto be something special and got me thinking of Tarkovsky Stalker. Not just in terms of the atmosphere and location but about the methods used. Tarkovsky in Stalker uses time itself as a form of story telling, the train sequence which until recently I've always hated is a good example. It had to be a long scene for the effect to work and when the Soviet bureaucrats asked to him to cut the running time down, he rightly threaten to make it longer. Turns out that Tarkovsky fella knew something about making movies!

Imo Death Stranding does something similar but with gameplay. To discuss themes of loneness, connection in the era of the internet, the gig economy, climate change and parenthood. Kojima and his team make you spend the majority of you're time as a lonely amazon worker who puts his life on the line delivering parcels(While carrying around a baby) because thats the only way to discuss and explore these topics(Death Stranding never offers any answers to these questions but for me thats a plus), even if this might run the risk of annoying the player. Kojima is willingly to make a less ''fun'' game in order to try and engage with these ideas. Once I got my head over this, the game started to click because there were plenty of hours I spent feeling frustrated or like I was wasting my time but thats kind of the point at certain parts, you can't talk about loneness in the modern world or the gig economy and not have the constant falling over, packages getting destroyed by time fall, rewarded in the form of likes and relying on the help of others. If this game didn't have a ton of struggle, it wouldn't work.

Thats not to say I didn't have any fun because there's plenty of great moments. I think it's the second anti matter bomb mission which can be turned into a remake of William Friedkin Sorcerer(I spent 30 minutes slowly rolling a truck down a snowy mountain in the hope of not getting killed). One time I made the mistake of taking too many time restricted orders at once which resulted in me crashing through a mule camp in order to finish the final order with only a one minute left. But all of this is secondary, Kojima has mentioned in interviews how he's goal was to make something that wasn't easy to digest, that he wanted something that would stick with the player for a long time, I think he achieved his goal with this.

Agree with you on the world building. Kojima needs some royalties from the Icelandic government, it's easily my next holiday destination.

Overall I'm a bit gutted it's over tbh.

There’s a lot to get through. I know you don’t know what an exclusive is on Xbox.

Not if you busy sat playing shooters all day and eating cheese burgers.

Oh I was wrong. It’s exclusive in my world. But it’s not exclusive in your funny world because it’s out on PC too. Hope that clears it up.

An exclusive means it can only be played on one platform. Hope this helps.

Played an hour last night (by played I mean watched 50 minutes of cutscenes), but I’m liking it so far. The story seems interesting and creepy enough so far so looking forward to playing a bit more later.

I’ve heard rumours of a PS5 upgrade or re-release or something in the pipeline so I’m waiting for that.

The only slight criticism I have is the fact I wish I could choose to listen to the in-game music when I'm on one of my posting journeys.
I'm surprised that option isn't in there. Works brilliantly for MGS5.

That has always bugged me. But then again, when one of those Low Roar tracks kicks in as you've trekked across miles of barren wasteland

It baffles me. Considering the music was developed for the game I just find it odd how you cant choose to listen to it on a journey.

I'm still expecting Sam to receive a music player from one of his costumers. :D
