Isn't he on higher wages than Alisson? Nobody is going to pay a high fee on top of that.

Well when we expected getting 40m from our player we only get an offer of 20m (ie Henderson)

And when we expect we could buy some of our top targets for 50m range (ie Tchouameni, Nunez), they are sold elsewhere for 80m+)

Anyone expecting 40m for Henderson is off their head.

He's just spent 12 months warming his arse.

If Samba genuinely is off (which I find hard to believe, he's 28 and literally just made it to the big time - why on Earth would he want a move back to France now?), Forest will be desperate for a player of Henderson's quality to replace him. £20-25m guaranteed, either this summer or next, is a fair price. He could be the difference between them staying up or not.

My guess is that this is all posturing amid the contract negotiations going on between Forest and Samba, who most likely just wants a bigger contract offer.

If Samba is determined to run down his deal, then I think Forest will just end up keeping him. There's really no point in selling him for a tiny fee to a club like Caen (the one club I've seen linked) rather than just keeping him for another year. And he probably doesn't want to go back to France anyway as clubs like Caen aren't going to offer wages as high as Forest.

If it is 20-25m, then we better have a 50% sell on clause or something extreme..

To be fair, if Henderson has half as good a season with Forest as he did with Sheffield United, United will be able to sell for a lot more than £20m at the end of the season.

Like I said in the other thread, what a stupid buy option. If he does well, given that he’s young and English, he’ll be worth a heck of a lot more than £20m, our board is something truly special.

Just give him a run out please if not buying a keeper. Not as bad as people suggest, but they'll judge him under Ole.

An option to buy with such a low fee will only accommodate Forest. They would sign him for a bargain if he succeeds and they would send him back if he fails. If Forest want to do business then we should insist that they should buy him outright.

Player not playing for 2 years has a drop in value, shocker.
Another mastermind by Ole.

2 years? He was first choice only last season. Then he got covid and couldn't be sold until he recovered. This has nothing to do with Ole. In fact, the only transfer window he was sellable was in January under Rangnick.

First choice? With 25 games? He was also dropped for the final.

Helps nobody this does it? We need cash for transfers not a loan to a club in the running for relegation.

Imagine he does well and gets into the England setup for the World Cup we’ve been fleeced at 20m quid. Not much of a win in this for United if best case scenario is 20m.

If Forrest stay up he would have done a good job and a mandatory fee of 30m or so should be inserted into the deal. If they go down he comes back to United.

He already had a great season with Sheffield United so why can't we sell him now instead of sending him on loan again?

Don't see how this deal is good in any way. We can't send Garner on loan to Forest to continue his development, if Henderson's terrible Forest don't even need to buy and if he does well £20m isn't even a particularly good fee for a player of his age. At the very least this buy option should have been made oligatory.

Because the last one was in 2019/20 and clubs don't tend to sign players based on their form two years ago (Except for us).
Loads of shite players who used to be decent move around from club to club every year. We seem to be the only club that consistently struggles to sell players. It's a never ending cycle of pointless loans followed by sitting on the bench or disappearing into obscurity; Henderson is just one of many at the club that fall into this category. We waste obscene amounts of money on players who contribute nothing whilst failing to make any money from sales. It happens so often it's infuriating

Why are United so bad at selling players? His spell at Sheff Utd was way more impressive than Ramsdale's, and yet United can't seem to get anywhere close to that sort of deal?

I get that he's on £100k p/w but ultimately United have the power here surely? Either he takes a pay cut to go and play regularly elsewhere, or he sits on the bench for another season in a World Cup year.

He was probably better but it wasn't "way more impressive", Ramsdale won POTY & YPOTY for Sheff Utd before joining Arsenal, Henderson is comnig off the back of a season doing feck all.

Probably more indicative of Sheff Utd's season than anything that. I remember him picking up down the stretch but he was absolutely awful to start the season and letting in soft goals all over the place. I'd say Henderson was clearly better personally when you compare those seasons H2H.

And yes that is true on the second part, but he's also already proven he's PL quality. Not just while on loan, but other than that game against Sheff Utd themselves he didn't really put a foot wrong for Utd.

I absolutely don't expect us to be getting £40-50M for him given our management of him. But, I feel almost certain this will be like a few recent Chelsea sales, where whoever gets him will be selling him for £50M+ in a couple of years time, and all the people naysaying him will be reversed complaining about why we let him go.

I'm happy for us to let him go for a Loan with a £20M odd buy option, but I'll feel happier if we have a £30-35M buy back clause in there somewhere for down the line.

Other than his wages, mostly because when we do try to sell players it's because we've held onto them for too long and we don't want them anymore. It's also usually very public that we don't want them or they simply aren't good enough. Henderson has barely played for two seasons and there's been rumours about him in the dressing room re: the leaks. We aren't exactly selling prime Buffon here. Just a player on too much money, that's barely played and is behind De Gea. Sheffield United sign Ramsdale for 20m the summer before so they did have more leverage I'd say, in that he was a pretty expensive purchase and their number 1.

He wasn't really pulling up trees either to be fair. He was fine in his short starting berth and I do like him more than De Gea but he wasn't putting in stellar 10/10 performances. He looked rather shaky on crosses too eager to come out for no reason.

He's on over £100k a week. Most clubs won't buy our cast offs for good money when they need to also finance a wage package those players will find acceptable.

For example, Antony Martial gets paid better than Mane and Salah. That's why its highly unlikely anyone who's willing to meet Martial's wage demands will also pay United £30-40m.

I understand this. See my second point. It just seems to me United don't understand when they have leverage sometimes.

Is Henderson gonna demand £100k+ a week from his new club and risk getting turned away and having to sit on the bench again 4 months before a World Cup? Or is he more likely to accept a more reasonable wage to play regularly and get his career back on track? I'd guess the latter if United stood firm on their asking price.

I see what you are saying but how much leverage do United really have?

Is Henderson so good that, if we said £30m+ or nothing, we could expect Forest not to try and find a cheaper alternative?

This is another problem we have and have encountered. We have tried this game with players like Lingard, Romero and Rojo and, basically every time, its ended up with us letting the player go on a freebie.

We have a lot of players that clubs could consider. However, they are not the only players in their position on the market. Plus, they are not so superior to the alternatives that clubs will pay millions, sometimes tens of millions more, for our fringe players. Hence, the lunacy of our 'fat squad' policy and tying middling players down to long and expensive contracts.
