He kept standing in goal when Sterling (Foden)? was allowed through to score. Lucky it was offside, as he left the goal wide open by not coming out to meet him and minimize the area to shoot in (he's so shit at this and also did it against Basakshehir)

Didnt even move for the second goal. Romero or De Gea could've saved that one. Not terrible, but United material at least reaches for shots like that.
His goalkeeping was alright for the Foden offside goal. The only thing he failed to do there was block the shot. He couldn't come out earlier, or he'd expose the goal to the cut back.

Think you should take another look at Fernandinho's goal. If I go into the mechanics, it'd look like I'm defending him too much.

That’s a remarkably bad post. Of which there will be many to pick from tonight. So hats off for laying down such an impressive marker, early doors.

I agree with him. As a club we never, ever sell in the hype.

Look how much money Liverpool have got recently from young players who got a bit of hype but clearly weren't good enough for them - £17m Ibe, £20m Solanke, £15m Ward, £25m Brewster...those four alone paid for Jota and Thiago, with money over.

It's a perfect example of why we get burned so often on outgoing transfers.

We keep players here for so long - players who clearly won't be first teamers here - but still have value. We play them sporadically until absolutely everybody knows their deficiencies - Jones, Lingard, Rojo for three recent examples - and then we're surprised when we either can't sell them at all or get absolute pittance offers.

Think of how much we could have sold those three for at various points. Now we can't give them away.

Henderson should have been sold in the hype. Tier 1 Chelsea journalists were saying they were prepared to pay £40m last summer. We'll never get close to that again.

We gave up £40m and shelled out on a £100k per week contract to downgrade our Number 2 option.

Take a good look yourself at both situations and tell me a keeper of Dave's caliber wouldn't have done better.

The criticism I find really strange. He made a good save against Mahrez, he did well to collect the ball from Sterling. Nothing could be done about the Fernandinho goal, whether he dived or not. And, no, you cannot guarantee that De Gea would have dived for it; I have seen him rooted to the spot on multiple occasions. It happens to goalkeepers when facing unstoppable goals.

Also, the Stones goal was almost point-blank. He cannot take the blame for any of the goals today as no goalkeeper would have saved them.

His distribution was fine; it is not like De Gea is some master of passing. De Gea has a 75.6% pass accuracy this season; 74.4% last season. Henderson had 70.6% this season.

It is weird people are so quick to jump on him when he has barely played.

He’s 23 years old and was one of the best keepers in the league last season.

Wise the feck up.

Played well. Going to have to see the second goal again. not sure why he didn't make an attempt at it. I'm assuming his vision was blocked but not sure why...

What part of my post is remarkably bad? That's not my kneejerk reaction to tonigth's game fyi. I was already thinking that we did the same mistake with De Gea the year before by giving a huge contract to him which made him impossible to move. And we did it again with Henderson this season. I wrote down what I thought 2-2,5 months ago too.

Romero is a better keeper than Henderson and more suitable option for no 2. We had an asset in Henderson but instead of using him to gain financially, we managed to create an issue for us.

Sergio Romero of last season is a better gk than Dean now.

What worries me about him is that contrary to what Caf told me he didn't seems to have any "aura of a Man Utd" GK.

Good save from Mahrez. Maybe could have done better in second goal but nothing much to complain about. Definitely not ready to be a starter yet though.

No, he wouldn't have done better if the scenarios played exactly the same.

Well how about we start with De Gea being “immaculate for the last 5-6 years”?

De Gea definitely at least makes a dive for the second goal. He might not save it but he would attempt at least.

He could see the shot, it’s not hit ridiculously hard, he doesn’t make a single move. Strange imo.

The ball pitched and swerved, then crept in a few inches wide of the post. No keeper could make the necessary adjustments to get to that. You just hope it comes back off the post.

I find it a bit odd that Henderson is getting criticised tbh. Thought he had a good game. Some people have extremely high expectations of him already.

It's the initial body movement as the ball is hit. We have conceded a pretty similar goal with De gea in goal this season. Zaha in our first game of the season I think.

I just saw the goal live and then went on a bit of a temper tantrum so haven't seen the replay

Had nothing to do with neither goal. Thought he was ok tonight nothing to complain about really, second looked a bit strange but having seen it from behind the goal nothing he could do there.

I don't get why after a loss people have to try and blame players for individual errors.

Anyone saying DDG could save that shot has lost it, he can't see the ball and i's right inside the post from a shot with good power. He made some nice saves, was decent enough playing out from the back - overhit a couple to Shaw - but he didn't do anything wrong.

And he's only 23. Tried to warn people last season when DDG was fecking up and they wanted to make him our #1. It's very young in GK years and he's only had one real season in the prem. We need to be patient.

Here is the thing. That should not be standard for United keeper, isn't it? I would always rather have a gk who will then and there make a mess but in most of games save certain goals than keeper who saves what he must and that is it. Second goal wasn't mistake by all means but it can be saved.
Look at that shot from Villa player in 90th minute last week. Ddg saved it. He also could have just stand on the goal line and say "i didn't see the ball".

I am thinking the same. And it is pure logic. We have excellent no1 gk. And we had perfect no2 in Romero.
Henderson is a good gk and maybe he will become top class gk (you can never know) but he will not be no1 till DDG is here. And Dave has 4,5 seasons in front of him.
If we had a chance to sell him for 50mil, we should have sold him and use that money to solve other problems in team.

It wasn't the same thing, and you know that. I could show you a video of De Gea not moving from a shot outside this season that went into the near post, but I reckon it would be a lot of effort for nothing.

Of course that it happened to DDG too. I was trying to say that that shot can be saved. Fans too often judge goals by; is it a mistake of gk or not. There is a third option. Not a mistake or bad reaction but can be saved.

Great save from Mahrez. Didn’t have any chance with the 2 goals.

Henderson is a good keeper.

however, I see nothing to suggest that he can be a great keeper.

I can’t see him making the great saves, I don’t see him sweeping behind the defence, or commanding his area.

DDG may or may not have saved the second goal, but what I’ve seen from DDG are moments of brilliance on many occasions. I don’t see that from Henderson.

I don’t think he’s good enough to take over from DDG.

De Gea constantly does the no dive... Can't imagine he'd have done anything different.

It's irrelevant anyway, dive or no dive, you're not saving that

the difference is that Romero will never be a No 1. Henderson might be, but he has the confidence to say he wants to do so.

DDG with Romero as deputy had run its course.

Depends if he could see the shot or not. Hard to tell but his view definitely could have been blocked by Lindelof right at the moment that the shot is taken, in which case he'd have no idea where it's going until after it's passed Lindelof at which stage it's way too late. If his view wasn't blocked then I'd be a bit disappointed he didn't at least make an attempt even though he probably wouldn't have made it.

Don't think it was just about vision. Just look at his body movement before the ball was struck, and the movement of the ball after. With the ball so far from the middle, the dive was never on.

I have watched football more than enough to categorically say that the shot could not be stopped.

Had a decent game imo. Probably hos best performance since arrived along with that Everton game in the quarter.

2nd goal was a bit odd though. Probably because we’re used to have the best shot stopper in the PL between the sticks for the last decade. I mena DDG would’ve saved that. Reflexes are probably his biggest strenght still.

Whoever is #1 for you would get hounded I suppose. He’s young and he’s one of your own back him rather than eat him alive.

Some excellent saves. And he looked settled and much less nervous. If he wore DDG mask, I wouldn't know that's Henderson.

And that 2nd goal was impossible to save.

His positioning seems a bit off to me. I thought it the rare time I saw him for Sheffield United too. I have my doubts he’ll ever be top class but early days for him.

It's only an hour ago he made at least one great save.

Aye, if he could get down like the amazing Sergio Romero he could have made a save like Romero’s against Norwich.

Oh wait.
