De Gea Replacement - Do not use for player performance chat

There are a number of expensive ones that would be great, Maignan or Costa for example, but I dont think we will have the budget for them.

Raya therefore seems like an obvious no brainer, shouldn't be to expensive, knows the PL and is better than De Gea at every single thing.

Ah, I was under the impression you could get Raya for closer to 20m as he's not signed a new contract.

I'm not keen on Pickford either, and I think they'd want a lot for him as well, which would make it a bad deal.

The initial speculation was he’d cost about 20m now it’s 40m. Who knows really as it’s all guesswork I just can imagine Brentford digging their heels in a bit.

If Everton go down I can just see a deal for Pickford being so easy to do that we get sucked in. We’re going to struggle as usual to buy and sell players this summer, especially if ownership still up in the air. Doing something rash like signing Pickford just seems so predictable.

For me, for next season I would bring back Henderson
Is he world class ? No but will be a fine stop gap and we can use that money else where this summer with the need for a striker and midfield depth which are going to be realy costly

Magnian has impressed me whenever I've seen him play.

would cost a fortune though?

Feel like we've clearly earmarked Costa as De Gea's successor. Could offset a lot of his cost with the sale of Henderson, so I think it's a matter of when.

Hope not re. Pickford. He just signed a new contract. Well, he did eventually, once he was able to reach and pick up the pen with those tiny arms.

From what's being reported, it seems like the plan is to make him the #2 on reduced wages. It'll be interesting to see if De Gea accepts that or decides to leave.

McDonnell is reporting that De Gea will be released.

Buying a younger keeper who fits the profile as far as building play from the back with De Gea around for another season to help him settle isn't a bad idea imo. And I've been a vocal critic of De Gea for well over 5 years.

I just think it makes far more sense to have a clean break with DDG. I'm not sure his influence is even that positive at the club - seems to have been involved with the feuding that went on between different factions last year, doesn't ever demonstrate a strong mentality and at this stage even his most ardent admirers must be finding it difficult to defend his meekness and lack of proactivity in defence. If we sign a new keeper it might be best just to commit to them and avoid having the "comfort" blanket of lobbing DDG in there when they have a slight wobble as has happened with Henderson in the past.

Also in relation to his wages, if we sign him we'd end up overpaying massively to keep him content because if we actually pay him the market rate for a player of his ability it would be so grievously insulting to him that he couldn't accept. £100k pw would be too much for him and that would be almost quartering his current package.

Maignan is an exceptional goalkeeper (I'd say a serious argument could be made that he's the second best in world football right now) but he'd cost far too much this summer.

No I think if Everton go down, Pickford ends up at Spurs. He just has Spurs written all over him and they’ll be behind us and possibly Chelsea in the queue for getting the likes of Costa, Raya or Maignan (if available).

Another year with him bloody hell

I thought the Sevilla game would maybe make Ten Hag and the management team realise how important it is that we find a better keeper to suit playing out from the back. I hope this is isn’t true, unless we are going for an affordable option like Raya to compete.

If the rumours are true that he rejected 200 kpw contract, then that is the worst decision I can think of by all parties.

1) Offering him that much by the club is insane and reminds me of the Phil Jones extension.
2) Rejecting something that no other team will even get close to that. I wonder if it was a greedy agent's advice, in which case that guy will have a lot of questions to answer.

I read somewhere it would be more performance based so possibly reaching 200k if he played a decent amount of games.

Genuinely think we should be offering absolute max 150k. He won’t get a better offer elsewhere that’s for sure.

Would be a shrewd move...

This guy was a beast for Croatia. Pretty darn good at stopping penalties too funny enough

Being Croatian, all I can say about Livaković is that he would be the perfect "replacement" for DDG: great at shot-stopping, coward at claiming crosses and sweeping, and he also treats a ball like a bomb when you try to build up from the back.

With all due respect to him, we adore him in Croatia for his WC performances, but he wouldn't offer any significant change in our style of play so I don't want him anywhere near our club.

Henderson has surely burnt that bridge the goat.

Would love Maignan or Costa, we need someone to instill confidence and composure in the back, something Dave has never really done.

Yeah either would be definite upgrades

Yeah is that guy even an improvement on DDG

Between kovar and Vitek we have two massive young potential keepers.

Absolutely tough scenario if Qatar own us. They aren't going to want a kid keeper.

Do we already have a successor in waiting in Kovar?

Good sign but I also started getting flashbacks of a similar video used to convince United players that Dubravka was actually a really good ball playing keeper from his Czech football days that made him look like Ederson

Not seen anything of him, but hear the name Vicario pop up a lot of highly rated young keepers. Is the old will they leave the country and looks highly linke dwith Juve, but any Serie A watchiners any opinions on him?

Not seen Diego Costa in club football, not sure any of the young premiership keepers linked are ready to make the step up to be the number one here yet and dont see a real guranteed and possibly available number one.

Personally, think we need to sign two keeper if DeGea goes with the Henderson situation, so I favour a cheaper young keeper to fight it out alongside him for a season or two to see if they are good enough whilst retaining the experience of DeGea who all in all has had a decent season

I think a younger with a view to him taking over from De Gea could turn out to be a shrewd move.

We are apparently scouting a number of keepers with the latest one being Leopold Wahlstedt who is 23, plays in Norway but is a Swedish international. I haven't seen him play but from the highlights he looks a very well rounded keeper who is also said to be good on the ball per the link below. Hes has also saved 4 out of the 10 penalties he's faced in his career thus far and his contract expires in December this year with his current club in Norway.

From the article below: "Wahlstedt did not concede a single goal from an immediate set-piece situation in the last calendar year. He was also very good at facing crosses, resulting in just one goal when leaving the line. His distribution has been impressive with 100% accuracy from all goal kicks in his own third, nearly 88% accuracy to the central third, and 69% accuracy into the final third. The system at Odd has generally required him making more shorter passes with just 14% of his goal kicks going long. From open play, that figure did increase with 30% of his attempted passes over 40 meters long."

"Leopold Wahlstedt is a goalkeeper who burst onto the scene in the 2021 season for Norwegian club Odd. At the time, he surprisingly usurped their number one Sondre Rossbach and started the last 13 games. He was earmarked as one to watch ahead of the 2022 campaign and didn’t disappoint. His biggest strength is fantastic reflexes, and he can prevent goals that look almost certain to hit the back of the net. He has saved four out of ten career penalties faced, which is an excellent record. This is a keeper known for saving impossible situations and is quite simply a brilliant shot-stopper."

Not triggering that one year extension in DDG's contract alone is already saving 19.5m. That's how big his salary is.

Hoping Qatar buys us and we go for either Maignan or Costa. I don’t like Raya at all, we are Manchester United, not a mid table team.

I would be buzzing with either, however hoping we could get one whether it's Ratcliffe or Jassim that buys us but they may have very different targets.

Hopefully those will be ETH’s targets, not sheikh’s or SJR’s. Budget may differ certainly, but targets must be authorised by the manager

The Henderson that they reckoned was one of the leakers here? No feck him off.

What do you base this on?

Big fart no.
Still feel bad for Navas when the De Gea swap deal didn't go through, and he was apparently crying when he found out he wasn't coming here. Turned out ok for him in the end though...

I think you have your story mixed up. He was crying when he found out he had to move as part of the deal.

3 CL titles and another CL Final with PSG. DDG was the one that probably had been crying.
