De Gea Replacement - Do not use for player performance chat

Save percentage is a terrible indicator. Goals prevented is a terrible indicator. They don‘t take into account anything.

Now make this graph for the Europa League.

Posting useless graphs like this to make a point is showing you are biased.

Underrated and disrespected by pundits. Bailed us out so many times. United number 1 is the hardest position to play in England, and he has more than held his own.

2nd half is starting david, get out there

Someone in one of the other threads asked who we would replace De Gea with if we were to let him go.

So a straightforward question: if you had to sign a replacement for De Gea this summer, who would it be? Being realistic about who you could get and how much we could reasonably spend given we will likely need to make expensive purchases elsewhere.

Who would be your choice?

I know he's signed a contract but it means nothing today. If Everton go down or in a bit of bother I'd go for Pickford, he seems a EtH kind of keeper great with his feet and controls his Box, can be a bit dodgy at times , most Keepers are. Get 2 quality CB in front and most Keepers do OK.

What is the budget for a GK?

For the sake of this discussion that's up to you. But we need to be real in that if you spend more on a goalkeeper you're hurting recruitment elsewhere, so most people will probably balk at spending too much. But you can give names at different price ranges in you want.

Really what I'm interested in seeing is which realistically obtainable goalkeeper people would actually go for if they had to make a practical choice.

Don't think he's the best prospect we could sign but David Raya with a year left on his deal would be a good start.

Our budget is knackered!. We have to free up space on the wage bill and ship out the high earners. I think we can only have the space for 1 big transfer this summer unless Glazers sell some more shares :(

If the club is sold then what's realistic becomes quite wide in scope.

Raya is a complete a no brainer.

Best keeper I've seen at Old Trafford with his feet, his distribution is ridiculous.

He's also better on crosses than DDG and not far off him in terms of shot stopping as well.

Brentford GK

Play some dark arts and make him kick up a stink there. He’d do it

I don't think he would particularly need to kick up a stink. In the summer he will have one year remaining on his contract and has already turned down their contract offers. Unless they want to lose him on a free, he is going to be sold to someone.

I’d rather we spend what limited money we’ll no doubt have, on other areas personally.

However if we somehow manage to be sold in good enough time and have a larger budget, I’d take Raya.

I'd take Raya to compete with henderson

Isn't Henderson like no 2 at Nottingham F these days? He also had the arrogance to claim on the media that he didn't want ETH to watch him play else he would be so dazzled by his skills that he wouldn't let him go. I'd say let him rot somewhere else and we buy a goalkeeper whose ego match his talent

If we have the money, then Maignan. Otherwise, for the next couple of years, we should look for a good deal like Raya or any relatively older keeper who wouldn't be a lot of money. Going into next season with only De Gea as the option would be suicidal.

Raya. I think he is good enough, knows the league, and fits into what Ten Hag is seemingly trying to do, even if he isn't Alisson level. Cheap, too, though I think even that might be out of reach after a CF and a CM. Seems like an easy choice.

I think De Gea will extend but we have to be smart and get another high level keeper. Raya is not extending so we should try and take advantage there. Also a lot of noise that Inter have to sell players like Dumfries and Onana so there’s another option.

The status quo of De Gea the untouchable can’t continue.

If there is enough budget for a keeper then Raya. If not Henderson. I just do not want to watch Dave anymore.

I have always liked Onana, and the chant would be mint.

On a budget it's Raya.

He's injured and might not even be fit to play again this season. They couldn't go the 2nd half of the season playing Wayne Hennessey so bringing in another GK was essential and still probably won't be enough.

Raya or Sanchez.

Spain saw it years ago, but as always our hierarchy are late to the party.

ANYBODY, literally anybody.
Recon we can get Ben Foster on a good deal.

Depends on the budget.

Maignan or Costa if we have the money.

Raya if we're tight, but I suspect we will have to keep looking if he's our target. I'll be more than happy to be proven wrong on this though.

I'd maybe go with Henderson for a year and wait and buy someone else next year it's clear we need players in more areas and a stable defense will lead to a decent GK being serviceable for the time being imo.

Pragmatically, Raya would also be my choice as well.

He fits the bill stylistically, he's settled in England, he actually counts as a homegrown player, he will be available this summer, financially it's a good point to buy him given he has one year left on his contract, he has already overtaken our current goalkeeper for the national team, he is currently outperforming our current goalkeeper within the Premier League.

He has been linked to us, Chelsea and Spurs this summer and was reportedly Arsenal's first choice target before they turned to Ramsdale. It's a very easy purchase that would improve us.

And while I think signing a new goalkeeper is important, I don't think it's so important relative to the other business we need to do that it would be worth spending closer to €75m on a Diogo Costa or player of that profile. I think you take the easy win buying Raya for less when he's available and move on.

Correct Mr if I am wrong but didn’t he conceded an eye watering 31 goals in 18 games this season?

Raya will have 1 year left on his contract. Selling Henderson will go most of the way to funding signing him. Absolute no brainer.

He might not be elite level but he will definitely improve our build up.

If we have enough funds then Maignan, Raya, Costa in that order.

If we don't have much funds Navas, Sommer.

Robert Sanchez makes the most sense? He's out of favour for Brighton but he's got a lot of talent and it may be the best opportunity to sign him because of this.

Yeah he wasn't exactly impressive when he was fit, certainly didn't perform well enough for ETH to have had second thoughts on him. The hope now is that his injury isn't too significant as that could feck up a potential sale or lower his value.

Fair enough

What about lafont? He was considered the next big thing in France and is currently doing well with Nantes. He also have 1 year left in his contract

If we're on a budget then Meslier, if we have money to spend then Costa from Porto

Is he not Injured??
But you're right with the other stuff. I've just lost patience with de gea now, don't even want him as backup.

Meslier is one of the only PL keepers who I wouldn't take over De Gea. His commanding of his area is as weak as De Gea's and he's not a great shot stopper. I'd rather give Henderson a go over Meslier and I'm not Henderson's biggest fan.
