De Gea Replacement - Do not use for player performance chat

In an alternate world we have Mr. Wonderpass in goal and find ourselves 0-2 down at the break.

I don't know why some people find it so hard to give credit where its due.
He's having a good game so far. It's not just a case of passing though, it's everything else that he doesn't bring. Credit to him so far today.

He’ll always make fantastic saves because he’s fantastic at doing that. I’m glad he’s doing that today.

He also needs to be replaced as soon as possible due to his other weaknesses that negatively impact the team.

Both viewpoints are comprehendable and very much accurate.

This.

Just a matter of weighing them.

We're still not as good as we could be, so having a proper shot stopper on goal is probably the better option then having a better GK passer.

When we upgrade our game and when we don't have games like today that show the importance of a proper GK, then we could consider the benefits of a GK that elevates our attacking aspect.

Nail on the head! He'll always make a brilliant save or two, but he'll also continually put his own team in trouble with his flaws.

Who? Who makes these two saves, they are world class and he does it time after time year after year.

Goalkeepers all over the world make fantastic saves every weekend.

You can’t just insert a random goalkeeper into a random moment throughout a match and say that he may or may not have made a save. That’s silly and you know it.

Who isn’t?

He’s been excellent so far today. The wider discussion still has merit, however.

Steaming in every time De Gea makes a great save to castigate the opposition view is weird, isn’t it?

You 're the poster who said Dubravka was going to replace DDG by christmas. You been slagging in off for months now. Take a break

A goalkeeper who can pass better doesn't help in games like this. We need him in goal till the squad is good enough and doesn't rely so heavily on Casemiro to not give away 100 chances or his replacements not being able to make a 10 yard pass

His poor distribution has created most of Leicester 's chances. He gets the ball and immediately it falls back to the opponent.
You what? Feed lost the ball for the first one and the 2nd was a counter attack ffs

On the other hand he saved 2 goals. His distribution isn't perfect and never has been but at least mention other things that goalkeepers do.

Another goalkeeper is capable of making fantastic saves, too, so your point is hypothetical and a bit daft, in truth.
Likewise that this mythical keeper being good on the ball will magically make our ENTIRE overall play better

Yes, but his critics (haters) do the exact same thing every time he incompletes a pass.

He was brilliant today and not just for the saves, he was pinging balls all over the place and only got one wrong that I noticed

Giving up on this thread until De Gea lovers magically stop acting ridiculously childish waiting for him to make a great save to come here pretending like they are 110% right when they aren't - no one truly is, that is why we have such lovely terms like discussion, debate, forums, etc.

No disrespect to De Gea, great servant, who saved us a lot of times, but please be so kind and stop acting like there is no other human in this universe who would make those saves from the first half and that we, who would replace him, want a new goalkeeper only to make Hollywood passes.

Cheers.

Ive felt this for a whilst now. Im a bit scared we go all perfect &get a sweeper keeper that doesnt offer us what de gea has this season even if he isnt perfect.

Not saying he isn't.
Just don't see the evidence that if Liverpool had De Gea there would be this massive drop off?

They would be worse overall, yes. They’d also be a lot worse at distributing the ball from the back, which is my overarching point.

I challenged the view that a great goalkeeper who is great on the ball is mythical. It isn’t.

See ya later, pal!

Any other keeper in goal today and we’d have conceded at least one.
Any other keeper and it could be also be argued that our first phase play would be of a higher quality and the keeper would contribute when it comes to baiting the press, which would lead to resisting the press, and the build up resulting in the play being of a high standard.

In that scenario the game could well be over in the first half for Leicester and we prevent Leicester creating the opportunities that they did create due to our build up play being of a higher quality.

He made some good saves and credit to him but again his shot stopping isn't the issue, but rather what he can't do for a coach who wants to dominate all phases of play.

He played some very good passes out from their press today too.

Yeah the poor 20 minutes was all on Dave.

Piss off

Think its bit harsh considering he did play some good passes from the back. First half Garnacho was not tracking his runner and they were getting a lot of space on the left side. Dont think any keeper would have helped in that position.

Can we replace De Gea and get better ball playing GK? Yes absolutely. But with so many other areas to focus, i think he is our least priority at the moment

They didn't press high and ten Hag clearly doesn't trust him on the ball and has Martinez right next to him to collect the ball when Leicester were in their defensive shape. He's no where near good enough on the ball compared to other keepers who also play under managers that want to play the ball out against the press.

It's why a world class manager like Luis Enrique dropped him completely from the squad because De Gea was completely at odds with the way he wants his team to dominate the offensive and defensive transition.

Ok, I respect your opinion but I disagree. De Gea is decent on the ball. Better than someone like Courtois, and they won the champions league with him.
He has his weakness definitely but if he keeps up this season’s form he’s far from an issue in my eyes.
Not really too bothered about Spain, this is Man united and I think we’re supposed to support our players too, despite some weaknesses.

Club legend. One of the few remaining premier league winners in the squad (Phil Jones?). Are there better keepers out there? Arguably yes, but we've seen what the pressure of being Utd's number 1 can do to a man. Dave had a shaky start and rose above it. I actually feel bad that he's been jettisoned from the Spain squad. I feel that we've got more pressing issues to attend to from a transfer perspective.

We have Leicester's footballer in goal, we lose that game. Nuff said
