Nevs was on about us needing to get him tied down but also got a little glint in his eye when the prospect of getting a Real Madrid player in return came up. Souness also heaped on praise saying he feels he should be considered for POTY.
Neville does us no favors in the media, fueling this kind of speculation. He's been getting on my nerves recently.

I think DDG will stay.

I just don't see him leaving this team at the start of its cycle. Not with Mata and Herrera here.

One thing that also stood out for me today was how friendly he was with all the spanish speaking City players too.

I think he's got a solid little network of friends in Manchester.

My point of view is more pessimistic, I think that Madrid will not stop insisting in all the summer. De Gea is the perfect political signing for Florentino, one of the best goalkeepers in the world (the most fashionable too), future of national team and former Atlético player.
The other options, Valdés, Leno, Cech...could be great, any of them would form a good couple of keepers with Navas, but for the press and Bernabeu partners would be very big disappointment.
I´d say that they will try to sign him even if he renews, probably expecting that he includes a clause in his contract, paying a bit more but making sure to keep a good relationship with United.
In any case the player can not extend the situation much more.

He would have a bigger network of friends if he lived in you know Spain.

If we get CL Madrid will be our rivals, even if De Gea wants to go I'd refuse to sell him, feck strengthening an already good team.

Lets just sign a load more Spanish players in the summer. Even if we don't need them. Just buy all his mates so he won't want to leave them!

Sadly I think you are right, aren't the rumors that he wants a buyout clause inserted and thats what is holding things up? Probably crap, but I feel it's only a matter of time before he ends up at Madrid.

I think the best we can hope for is that he signs a new contract and that we hold on to him for another year or two at most before getting an astronomical fee for him.

He'd be a no brainer for Real if he wants to go, has the potential to sort them out for a GK for the next ten years, which is exactly what they need with Casillias nearing the end of his career.

He'd qualify as a homegrown player for Europe for them too wouldn't he?

feck sake, sign the contract Dave :(

If his agent wants a release clause, then it will have to be £80m +, otherwise there is no value in us renewing his contract.

At this point I live more in hope that we can get a quality fee from Real, despite his contract situation, than hope of him actually renewing his contract with us.

If we continue our recent form and qualify for Cl, which looks very likely i will be absolutely shocked if he didn't sign an extension. Historically fewer players have played for both Madrid clubs than for both Manchester or Milan clubs. It happens but is very rare. Especially for a born and bred Atletico fan like him to sign for Real the difference between us and Real Madrid has to be considerably large, like us finishing 7th and no CL. Any less of a difference and i don't think he will find the transfer enticing. My guess is his agent is just trying to play smart and leave it till his final year so they can have an upper hand in the negotiations.

I still won't feel completely comfortable even if he signs.

The only thing that will guarantee is that we will at least not lose him on a free/cut price deal, which don't get me wrong is good, but I want him to stay for life :(

...erm.

Edurne is never in Madrid anyway. Touring Spain, touring Europe etc.
So what you're saying is that it's better for her career if he stays in England, so she gets more coverage outside Spain? Right? RIGHT?!

Watching him after we score this last few games he looks like a man celebrating more than just a goal. We're giving him the justification he needed to stay.

I would like to think that he wouldn't want to go to Real Madrid because he came through the ranks of Atletico Madrid but that'd just be naive thinking on my part.

I hope we can get the contract situation dealt with sooner than later.

He can't really say anything else, but still:

However, United have received a boost, as Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti has backed his current #1 Iker Casillas.

‘Iker was very clear, he wants to stay. We want him to. I want him to,’ said Ancelotti.

‘He doesn’t need protection. Iker has broad shoulders and is a great professional.’

Casillas has come in for some criticism from his home crowd recently, after a few poor performances, but these latest comments coupled with United’s brilliant results recently could yet persuade David de Gea to stay on at United.

Let's just buy all the Spanish national team players that aren't in Real and Barcelona, form a mini Spain in Manchester to keep De Gea happy.

My take on it is that he's going to be one of the highest paid and most costly goalkeepers in the world and contracts like that take time to construct! He's loving it here and like most of the team feel like they are possibly on the verge of something special. His friends are here (the rest of the Spanish lads) so why would he leave us yet. Who's to say in a few years he may do but for now why would he? That's my take on it anyway. I may be wrong but I don't think I am the spirit In the team is the best it's been since fergie at the minute.

Just buy Koke or Iker Munian and he is set. They are best friends.

150k a week and his signing bonus can be us signing his good friend Koke

Spain aren't in a good financial position, United has a lot of money to spare. Can't we just buy Spain, relocate it to Manchester and keep De Gea happy?

That's the least we can do for him.

Failing that, find him a manc girlfriend.

How much does DDG get a week, and how much Falcao been paid a week by us for this season?

Genuine question as I'm never sure what's fact and what's rumours.

Around 75k and 250kish reportedly.

Wow...

Yeah, you can understand his camp taking their time to get the absolute best deal possible!

To think that we're paying Falcao £175,000 a week more than De Gea is genuinely surreal - we got royally done by Mendes on that one...

And it's Mendes that we're negotiating the new De Gea deal with! Crazy stuff.

I think that once your making a certain amount, it's a bit meh to get the absolute best deal. Let's not forget he's a goalkeepr and could easily play (with any luck) up until his 40's if he wants too

How is anyone thinking he actually wants to leave. Nothing has been said by his people on the matter has it?
