I don't think we can have a cohesive defensive unit without a settled, world class goalkeeper. Uncertainty between the posts will inevitably lead to uncertainty in the whole defence.

He's our most important signing of this Summer but it very much looks like he's going :(

That is true. I feel we will get one of those world class keepers, but even then I think they will struggle to perform as well as De Gea did this season. Manuel Neur is the only keeper, I can think of that can easily fit in and make us forget how vital De Gea's contribution was at United.

It seems that you have a very strong need to dismiss everything Madrid has ever accomplished in a desperate attempt at trying to come out as the best team in history yourself. Envy is a funny thing.

Whatever floats your boat though.

Envy of what deary? Of having people like Franco and Blatter supporting you? Can you kindly sustain your argument that we're the FA club?

What can I say? These people can spot a good club when they see one, eh? ;)

Its more of a case that birds of the same feathers fly together. ;)

Anyway can you kindly sustain your argument that we're the FA favorite club?

Running his contract down to leave for cheap is a pretty dick move, and won't go down well with fans who backed him during a couple of difficult seasons. Pretty pissed off to be honest, even if I do understand his motives. Hope he flops.

If we can't get a ridiculously huge fee for De Gea we need to keep him and let his contract run out. The benefits of this are:

1. He's the difference between 1st and 2nd in the league (or between 4th and 6th). Selling him for the fees suggested simply isn't worth not having him for a season.
2. It sends a message. You can't tap up our players and buy them on the cheap. If you want to buy them pay up or wait.
3. It gives us a chance to assess Valdes for a season - give him some games throughout the season in various competitions, and see if he is capable of being De Gea's replacement.
4. It's time we stand up for ourselves. feck Madrid. If they want him ASAP then force their hand.

Eh. The importance of 3rd/4th is grossly overstated. I'd rather send a message to the player than continue to show quite how reliant United are on him.
Nice to possibly play two less games though which could involve a large amount of traveling depending on who we'd be up against in the qualifier.

If he's not happy, he's not going to perform. He's a person, not a robot.

It hasn't hindered Arsenal in recent years and they are notorious for having no depth. The two extra games could actually be beneficial to the philosophy next season. I just don't see the importance everyone else does.

Rubbish for me. Players can't just stop performing for a year, they know that. Their value will degrease and Real could just look for another one if he is not performing on his usual level. Ronaldo still was important for us in his last season, Lewandowski had a great last year at Dortmund too. Dave will not play like shit if he has to stay another year with us.

He'll try his best, sure. But with the distraction/discontent, he's not going to be at his best. It's not a switch you can turn "on" or "off". Top athletes are humans too.

YES!!!

No waving or clapping whatsoever as he goes off.

Either he's staying or he's being incredibly disrespectful to the OT Faithful. I hope it's the former.

He's gone. But I do trust Ed being the shrewd man that he is to use De Gea as a bargaining chip to get Bale for a reduced fee than what's quoted.

See above your post :)

I'd love it if he were to stay but still can't see it. He'll most likely be back on the pitch for the lap of honour anyway but I guess the contrasting reactions to being subbed off between he and Falcao are interesting. Might have been a case of him being more preoccupied with the injury though.

Yeah, it'll be interesting to watch him post match...

I'm gonna be changing it back aren't I? :(

The emotional roller-coaster of being a flip-flopper.

As far as i could tell, he got injured and left.

People read way too much into these things.

Now if he got injured and left the pitch with the Real Madrid medical staff via helicopter, then I can see why you'd worry.

If we're going to lose him, I at least hope we have Madrid's pants down during the negotiations.
