Dayot Upamecano | Signs for Bayern

Cheap Bundesliga top talents always go to Bayern, nothing new. They are using their league domination and Bundesliga market value as advantage to build strong team.

Volker Struth, the player's agent, is doing a live interview with a German TV station at the moment.
According to him:
-The release clause is set to €42.5m.
-The player has made the decision to leave.
-There have been talks with Bayern and he lauds Salihamidzic for making an effort and creating a good climate during the talks.
-There is only Bayern and the PL for the player, as the Spanish candidates have financial difficulties at the moment.
-There's two interested clubs from the PL, he didn't want to call them by name, but he said they have been well documented by the press.

Us and Chelsea Id say

As far as I know the most common reports in Germany have been about United and Liverpool. They actually asked him about the latter directly, but he didn't want to comment further.

After Tuchel took over, last week there was some SportBild item claiming his Chelsea now represents competition for Bayern in signing Upamecano, though that could have been purely opportunistic, speculative and sensationalist reporting of course.

It's in the agent and players best interests to mention there's two English clubs involved when negotiating with Bayern. David Ornstein and Laurie Whitwell have reported that we've pulled out of a potential deal and won't be pursuing it any further and both journos are normally on the money, especially Ornstein.

So if Ornstein and Whitwell are correct and we have pulled out of a potential deal then I'm gonna assume the the two English clubs involved are Liverpool and Chelsea.

So we have it straight from his agent that he has a clause, wants to leave, and is considering offers from two Premier League clubs and Bayern.

Do I understand right that, when he chooses to join Bayern over those, the Bundesliga will be regarded as a worse league by the Caf than if he leaves for one of the two?
That is some sound logic.

I think bottom line is: if the agent is so open about supposedly having great talks with Salihamidzic, then the player most likely already has one foot in Munich.

Humans, or at least professional football players, tend to require two attached feet though. I absolutely hate that our board personnel feels the need to spout about publicly when it's not yet 100%. How hard can it be to say, 'no comment'. Brazzo and Rummenigge must be the worst poker players in the world.

Yeah, Bayern just don't know much about how a football club should be run.

It actually makes a lot of sense for Bayern to sign him. Bayern are a team that looks to dominate possession in a high line and Upamecano's ability to pass through the lines will really suit them.

For United it makes more sense to sign the younger Konate IMO. He's defensively stronger than Upamecano IMO and aerially very strong. At United we're gonna need our CBs to defend more than attack in comparison to what will be expected at Bayern who are a stronger team in comparison to United at the present time. But Konate is also very good on the ball in particular his ability to dribble the ball out of the back line which helped Leipzig advance play 30 to 60 yards which turns defense into attack in seconds due to Konate's powerful surging runs.

I'll also add that Konate has suffered one significant injury which has kept him out for a long period of time. It was a muscle injury sustained after he was played in literally every minute in the 2018/19 season as a teenager after Upamecano himself was ruled out for the whole season. He was then selected to play for France u21s in the European Championship finals in the summer and played up until the semi-finals stage which likely took it's toll on the, then 19 year old who was likely over played without significant rest. The United medical staff will likely make the call on his injury in the eventuality we do firm up our interest because the medical reports will be available.

It's reported that Ole wants a CB who is commanding, strong in 1v1s when the fullbacks are caught up field and can single handedly thwart counter attacks. Konate fits that profile like a glove IMO. He's still young at 21 too, so will improve further in the coming years.
Spot on. I’m a big fan of konate. Perfect for the PL

Could just be squeezing Bayern for a higher wage as he'll likely attract more with Premier League leverage. I'd say Bayern have done pretty amazingly overall in the transfer market for years. Not least because all of Germany is your feeder club.

Absolutely agreed. But is it a concern we haven't really been linked with him?
Previously we have been but not really seen anything recently but I guess everyone and news story is focused on Upa as he‘ll generate clicks as he’s a more widely known name. I would hope we are thinking about Konaté but I just have a feeling Ole will persist with Lindelof and Bailly and bring in a cheap option to replace Rojo, Jones and the likes in the squad.

However if the story is true about him(Konaté) having a 40 mil Euro release clause in the summer then that’s a no brainer.

Well it certainly should be a no brainer but with how with deal with transfers wouldn't hold your breath

I would be very, very suprised if any report claiming that Konaté too has a release clause for this summer, especially such low one, turned out to be true. I'm inclined to call BS on that.

I honestly can't see them selling both in the same window

.
Highly doubtful it's Lfc now, as they have recently bought 2 CB's.

I doubt we're interested.
They've signed Kabak on loan with a option to buy, so they're still in a position to make a move for Upamecano.

But According to Rory Smith who previously worked for The Times newspaper and is known to have close contacts at Liverpool, Liverpool's top target for the CB role is a player that they will face in the KO round of the UCL this month and it's not Upamecano. So it seems he's suggesting that Ibrahima Konate is who they're working on for the summer.

Will be interesting to see who it is and if RB will allow both CB's to leave in the same summer?

Leipzig have already signed Josko Gvardiol who I believe is the Upamecano replacement and have a agreement with Mohammed Simikan from Strasbourg to join in the summer. It looks as if they're preparing themselves for a double departure.

That's really shit. Konate's the sort of player who will take their defence up to City's level, it's doubly annoying because he'd take our defence up to that level too.

I have a feeling they'll have serious competition for him and United will likely be in the competition.

It would be quite a shocking management if both CB have release clauses that can be triggered in the same summer. That is why i am bearish on Konaté‘s availability

Not if you consider that Upamecano was supposed to leave last summer (due to his contract) and this year is basically a "bonus season". Gulasci's agent also told Bild that his client has a release clause coming up as well and that it's low priced even for a Covid market, so die Rasenballer might have a huge rebuild coming up in the summer.

Yeah I read that too, and was curious what kind of sum would pass as "low even in CoVid market times" for a goalie like Gulasci? Single digit millions?
Do you believe the stuff about Konate's clause?
As far as I can tell, it was only SportBild's resident twitter clown who talked about it; while back when Konaté signed a new deal the local Leipziger Volkszeitung newpaper said he'd have an 'astronomically high' clause only in 2022, I think.
And Falk's claim of "40m plus x" sure isn't astronomic, unless the x stands for 60m.

Given it was his agent, it could also be a case of "my client is worth €30m, but you can have him for €20m". I don't know what's been reported abuot Konate, but if in doubt I'm always inclined to believe the local papers over Bild.

Gulasci‘s clause sounds more like €5m than €10m. And he is a really good keepe!
I just don’t see Konaté having a low-ish clause as well. But if he has it: Bayern, please buy both and sell Süle!

Well the thing is - as I said - that Upamecano was scheduled to be sold last summer. Him leaving via a moderate release clause this summer was unforeseeable when they negotiated Konate's contract. And in any case €40m is not such a pitiful sum for a young cb that I would dismiss it based on the amount of the fee.

As far as Gulasci goes: it's probably between him and Sommer for 2nd best keeper in the league. I'm sure Dortmund will take a look at him (and even they are linked with others, like Onana) , but who else? Spurs? I don't think there will be a huge market for him.
