Day 3 | Poland vs Netherlands | Slovenia vs Denmark | Serbia vs England

England Commentary is nearly as bad as the Prem. Where has this revisionism come from regarding Trent ??? Shearer stroking his old man every time he touches the ball. He's in midfield because as a full back, he really is a poor defender and lacks positional intelligence. Put him in midfield and he looks out of his depth. No doubt he will come out of the game with a straight 8/10

Back 4 look pretty comfortable, Saka and Bellingham look extremely comfortable going forward. Foden is struggling to impose himself on the ball, but fair play to the lad he is disciplined out of possession.

Clear weakness in Trent and the left hand side. Hopefully as the tournament goes Southgate plays Mainoo or Wharton as they’re actually CMs. Left our only option is Gordon really.

Foden and Trent are so poor, making England's midfield look very ordinary. Trent is the worst pick of 4 available Rice's partners

What’re you all going to do if 19 year old Mainoo with 25 senior appearances at club level does come on and has a stinker?

Mainoo’s average rating according to this forum is 6.1. Is he really that good yet?

Yeah we need someone who can go down the outside. Foden and Trippier are so predictable.

Whos the BBC commentator? He's a grade A cnut, overplaying England so much its nauseating

Unless he starts kicking the ball into our net, he can't be worse than what we've seen so far. At least he knows the position.

Fully expect England to come out of their group comfortably, perhaps even winning it, but then eventually being undone by a technical side like Spain or Germany. Especially if Southgate persists with his silly experiment of playing TAA in midfield.

It's quite funny actually. I'd like to see if Southgate has the balls to play this midfield against a Spain/Germany/France. Would be a funny wake up call to all of these 'expert' pundits.

2-3 times his first touch in tight midfield areas have been bad, one ended up in the Mitrovic chance. Not even a mention of it, the nice pass to Saka though was mentioned for 5 minutes.

Eh? Are you watching the game. Do you think Serbia have control with 30% possession? The midfield has done fine, TAA hasn’t been as good. Rice has been excellent.
They have 44 percent, jumped from 30 because they had so much of the ball later on.

He’s a natural midfielder at least though.

Trent is not a midfielder. Yes, he has world class passing but his first touch in tight areas is horrible as is his positioning.

Once again Saka our most dangerous attacker. Kane and Foden have been non existent.

Pretty much correct.

For England to have a serious chance of winning the tournament they need Bellingham AND Foden to turn it on like they do for their clubs. Jude has but Foden's barely touched the ball.

I think Rice has been very good aswell but also seen the pros and cons of TAA. Horrible control and you do that v a Spain, France or Germany and there's a serious chance of conceding a goal.

Serbia been very disappointing bar the last five minutes of the half.

Foden is a systems man through and through.

Does seem like that so well versed in Peps philosophy doesn't have much effect outside of it.

if England had a more profound coach then maybe Phil would be more influential but England careers below-average at best in multiple tournaments thus far.

The excuse for Trent’s mistake. Oh he’s not used to receiving the ball like that. He’s better when nobody is around him and he’s allowed to do what he wants with loads of time. If only we had a player comfortable receiving the ball like that eh.

England dominating this game and probably the tournament. We should all get our hopes and expectations as high as possible. It's coming home!

The underdogs have been very disappointing so far in this tournament.

They're all happy to sit in

Did you watch him in the FA Cup final against City? He bossed the undefeated Rodri and their midfield.

And the caf ratings are always skewed by people giving low ratings to every player after defeats.

As expected with that midfield, England lost control of the first half as soon as the tempo dropped.

We have one advantage over most countries: Our league is played at pace. However, it's impossible to maintain that pace for 90 minutes. As soon as the intensity drops we level out. Worse, tonight, we have nobody in our midfield who can put their football on the ball and guide us through those periods. In the way that Kroos would do for Germany etc.

I can't think of anything that would convince me 'Trent' is a midfielder.

It’s not even a Mainoo thing, I’d be quite happy to see Trent get hooked for literally any other midfielder in the squad. He offers absolutely feck all in there. All those issues he has at right back, like positioning, defensive awareness and actual tackling ability are highlighted even more in midfield. I really don’t know WTF Southgate and the pundits are smoking.

Has Foden really had a great game at international level yet? I've not got my hopes up about him delivering for us, because he just doesn't seem to shine outside of Pep's system.

I’m surprised there isn’t more transfer buzz around Guehi. Good player.

Do you really think it's a good idea to judge anyone on those ratings? They're strongly impacted by results related rage.

As Serbia fan hoping for Southgate's team to hold on 1-0 lead instead of going for more and then taking our chance if it comes.

Exactly. Gallagher and Wharton would be better options.

Obviously this is one game, but Walker seems really limited in an attacking sense. There have been so many opportunities to set him free against that defence.
Yeah, he is that way for City as well. The ideal situation is that Saka attacks on his own and he stays back for cover and the LB (ideally Shaw) has more freedom on the left side. He's really just there for his defensive game.

All chancing 1 win and a 3rd place finish perhaps? There’s definitely some drawbacks to this format even though I’ve enjoyed the tournament thus far.
