Is the final not next weekend?Arguably the winner of this England v France match will go on to win the World Cup in two weeks.

I agree with all of your points. France just have that maturity to their game that just says "been there, done it already". They don't panic, similar to Croatia in that regard.Undoubtedly but I think England would face the same problems Spain, Belgium, Croatia and Portugal (talk about giant slayers) had against Morocco, should they beat France. They're not able to break a good team defending in a low block, not under Southgate, and they don't have that X factor like France in Mbappé. Morocco's only problem is injuries and fatigue. The last two games took a real toll on them.
Both have weaknesses that France and England can easily exploit. Croatia can't score a goal to save their lives despite their excellent midfield and defense. They also had two games go all the way to the penalties which will play a major role in their fitness. Argentina are very reliant on Messi in terms of chance creation. Mark him out and their attack crumbles. They have no finisher and defense is also nothing worth of note. Last point, their game management against Netherlands was simply awful and they added unnecessary 30 minutes because of that.
National team selection is not the best barometer for gauging how good players are. Some players just work better for the team.theo so good his brother starts over him? yeah not sure.
he’s certainly got some great qualities but not sure he’s an amazing defender
You base your opinion in one world cup and a lower level European cups. I agree about the stature and demeanor. His poise after what happened in that world cup was commendable. Most Portuguese people aren't as forgiving. He was an incredible player but I still rank him bellow Ronaldo and Figo because the competitive level was far lower in his days.
Agree to disagree. No problem mate, I understand your view point and I'm obviously biased being a Sporting fanI cannot disagree with you more, but that's a conversation for another time and another thread.
Really wanted Kounde against Rashford, Foden needs to be tricky out there.
Walker doesnt seem as fast anymore to me.

Pickford = Lloris
Walker > Kounde
Stones < Varane
Maguire < Upamecano
Shaw > T. Hernandez
Rice > Rabiot
Henderson < Tchouameni
Bellingham = Griezmann
Saka < Dembele
Kane > Giroud
Foden < Mbappe
Not a lot between the teams.
So is Luke ShawLucas Hernandez is an excellent player though.
fair enough. I like Hernandez but for me Shaw is world class when he’s fully fit.National team selection is not the best barometer for gauging how good players are. Some players just work better for the team.
Individually Hernandez is better than Shaw but it's not 'clear cut' it's my personal view.
Messi lives rent free in their headsI don't really get this, what exactly is the problem with Argentine referees. There are french referees so no nations should be excluded.
So is Luke Shaw
Because they apparently hate CR and Portugal. They don't want Messi and Argentina to meet.I don't really get this, what exactly is the problem with Argentine referees. There are french referees so no nations should be excluded.
Thanks for the thoughtful reply.I worry about Walker's fitness to be honest. It hasn't been said much, as far as I can see, but Reece James is a huge loss for you guys. For me the best RB in the World with Hakimi. With him then France would have had to worry about him attacking too instead of just Mbappe. I agree too, I think Mrcus is your guy against a CB playing RB. Foden is amazing but won't pose the same problems. I wish Southgate used him at 10 with Rashford on the left but this isn't the game for it.
However that's where you win it for me. France have Dembele and Mbappe and I don't see a dangerous alternative. Whereas England have Rashford, Grealish and Mount. All very talented and different players who can change the game in various ways. Even Wilson can be a decent impact sub.
Huge game ahead. The winner of this, for me, wins the whole thing.
It was called that in 2018Did they actually call the corner routine The Love Train?!
Because they apparently hate CR and Portugal. They don't want Messi and Argentina to meet.
They had another manager then and Ziyech and Mazraoui weren't there. Funny how a competent coach brings the best out of a team.
Thanks for the thoughtful reply.
James missing is huge and could have done a job on Mbappe I think.
Yeah agree about Foden, very different threat. Subs in the last 20 plus ET will be huge I think, Grealish or Rashford could be the difference.
Did he not play v Wales too?Didn't Walker play the full 90 against Senegal? That and some training sessions will have got him up speed. I hope.

That was the training session I mentioned.

You’re being very generous about Wales showing in that gameThat was the training session I mentioned.
Well England weirdly too, that's the feeling I got at least. It's a group that has been together for a very long time and only narrowly missed a trophy. They're not trailing France that much in terms of tournament experience, except well actually winning one. They're also gaining confidence with each game won and I'm fairly certain that their mindset is "we can actually do this" at the moment. The stars are aligned and it's their best chance to win the WC since 1966.I agree with all of your points. France just have that maturity to their game that just says "been there, done it already". But France have that Balance of old heads but new blood that still have something to prove and win on the biggest stage. As a neutral (as neutral as an Irish person can be!) I can't wait for tonight's game.
The focus has been on Mbappe vs Walker, but I'd worry about Shaw and Maguire against Dembele, and also Griezmann that likes to drift to those inside channels.
