Day 19: Morocco vs Portugal | England vs France (QF 3&4)

So weird that goal. All I seen was Morocco playing anti football and playing for penalties and they scored? How?

Anyway can't wait for France vs England. Both teams have played such free flowing attacking football in the past few years.
No. Morocco are playing very well as a team. Their counter attack strategy is right for such big matches. What's surprising is Portugal are falling for it.

Will be only good for Morocco if Santos gets desperate now and throws Ronaldo on the pitch, will make it even easier for them to hit Portugal on the counter.

Morocco look excellent, very well drilled team and always dangerous when they get the ball. Easy to see why they only conceded one goal all tournament.

This "anti-football" sh!te has to stop, especially when levelled at strong defensive teams with good discipline.

There's no rule in football that says you have to employ Kevin Keegan style idiocy and win 4-3.

Could not agree more.

And it's not like Morocco are parking the bus and just defending the box.

Spain's football was anti-football imo. No real intent. Just passing it around in safe areas, scared of getting countered.

Ahah you could at least name us, ANGERS SCO.
But yeah, another good sale coming, hopefully we'll get a PL team to bid as high as what we got for Jeff Reine Adélaïde.

How has he played for Angers? Would you consider him your best player or is he just having a good World Cup.

They are way more adventurous then Greece to be fair. Greece basically just relied on set plays.
They're more skillful on the ball, a lot of players are press-resistant, and their discipline are excellent. They're also very adaptable team following the oppositions, look at the first half when they neutralize Portugal's midfielders and make them hard life.

I see no anti football. Marocco manager has outmanaged Fernando Santos and our performance has been atrocious.

Fecking Fernando Santos not changing the midfield. Tragic.

Morocco aren't parking the bus for fecks sake

The only real anti-football we have seen has been from Spain.

Yep. It's all very "I read the Sun"

Who do people want to win this? I would rather meet Morocco in a semi but Portugal minus Ronaldo are quite likable and I want to see Portugal v France if we go out.
Morocco 100%

All this does is reinforce my belief that parking the bus and playing smart on the counter is the most OP way of playing football.
It’s the best way to play in tournament based competitions but over a season it definitely isn’t, especially not with the highly conditioned athletes we have in this era who can basically press non-stop.

I bet Piers Moron is somewhere yelling about bringing on Ronaldo!

Yep. It's all very "I read the Sun"

Should be filed alongside "high press", "low block", "game management", and all these other dreadfully sh!Te buzz phrases about things that aren't at all new.

Ahah you could at least name us, ANGERS SCO.

Ahah yeah sorry I didn't because most people here don't really know ligue 1 teams very well.

I know a lot of salty people are trying to draw some kind of equivalence to the reaction to this match and to Croatia but Morocco have been much more positive than Croatia attempted to be at any point during the 90 minutes

How does Leao not start for Portugal?

Think I heard the commentary say his team is bottom of ligue 1 so I'm guessing he's not doing very well.

He certainly looks decent in this Morocco team though.

That's international football for you.

Pogba was great for France while he was super inconsistent at Man Utd.

The fact that only about 12 international games are played per year, has a lot do with inconsistent players shinning more at international football.

Hopefully this world cup can be where the myth of superstar footballers starts to fade out, and TV and print journalists mindlessly over promoting the traditional teams is a thing of the past.

Team work, team spirit, organisation and hard work are always going to win despite how many twitter followers a brand footballer with a groundbreaking haircut has.
