Day 19: Morocco vs Portugal | England vs France (QF 3&4)

The positives:

We played well.
Some of the United lads will be coming home.
I can't actually watch the whole final which will not be as interesting as it could have been.

England played well but Southgate took off their best player, Saka. Without him there's no real threat.

France took their chances we didn't take ours. We also could've put them under more pressure with subs a bit earlier but there is the worry of a fast counter. Overall not the titanic battle, it was played quite respectfully and open for both teams and England fizzle out once again.

Maybe one of our teams will take them down ;)
Slim slim chance. Especially in final. They never play some scary shit football but they are just unbeatable.
Last WC in final we fully dominated them in first half. Result of that half was 2:1. For them.
Amazing team.

Shit ref. An opening goal that should’ve been chalked off. A penalty we should’ve had. England the slightly better team. Lucky winner off Maguire’s shoulder. Kane bottling it. Spirit of Chris Waddle. Time for Southgate to give someone else a bash at it.

You had two

List them for me. They’d a couple of shots from long range and two penalties. What match were you watching?
I’m not going to waste my time making lists for you kid you’re full of s*** or just blind if you think England didn’t create anything outside of set plays. Run along now.

Kane 1 on 1 with Loris on the right side, could not lift the ball over Lloris.

Maguire with open header that hits the post

Cry me a river. The impressive teams are out…
In football, winning is more important then being impressive apparently.

This is a bizarrely hostile response, I was just pointing out that France were second best and looked very vulnerable, but are still very likely in the final (unless Morocco do to them what they did to England).

Meh not really. I’d say the better team lost but that’s tournament football. This English team is young enough to come again and I’m sure it will do beyond Southgate.

Well done and enjoy the rest of the tournament
But how many time are you going to bottle your chances before your window closes?

You should have never let Croatia beat in 18 nor should have never let Italy beat you on home soil in the final. This time you were up against a France ravaged by injury with Morocco waiting for you in the semi finals and you blew it.

Unlucky. Thought England were the better team, but Southgate bottled it by not going for the kill in the second half before France got their second. Rashford should've come on so much sooner.

Have to say that I really can't stand watching Harry Kane play now. He's on the left wing, the right wing, central midfield, his own half...why can't we just play him as a striker? He's wasting so much energy elsewhere on the pitch in ineffective positions and isn't then where we need him to be for the big chances. Thought Saka provided so much more today and was our most likely goal threat. Just felt that Kane actually became less effective as the game went on, and Rashford should've been thrown into the mix. We had so much of the ball without finishing them off, due to the way we attacked.

Bah, annoying, this was there to be won.

We were the better team but that doesn't matter. We bottle it everytime when it comes to these games. Typical England.
Being "the better team" doesn't count for anything. The game is decided by who scores more goals & England couldn't score. A bench full of quality attacking players who don't get to play. Southgate is a brutal manager !!! Zero Flair !!

The better team lost on the night, though France looked like they had another gear in them. On another day the outcome could have been different.

Agree with you that it was a good performance from England, but wouldn’t say we deserved to win it. Other than the first penalty, Kane wasn’t really at his best and we had very little luck with the ref tonight. Every time the French moved up the pitch you just sensed a real threat.
Not saying we deserved to win but we didn’t deserve to lose either. And that’s almost always the case for England in tournaments.

Enjoyed watching this game, England were slightly better overall I'd say but France more clinical and Kane's missed penalty won the game for France basically.

to be fair when I was young I used to be emotionally invested watching England in tournaments, till I grew up and realised it'll never happen. It's not been the same since, it's just chilled been waiting for inevitable knock out.

France defence are idiotic. Some ridiculous fouls. If I were Deschamps I would be giving some of those defenders a bollocking.
