Day 17: Morocco vs Spain | Portugal vs Switzerland (Last 16 7&8)

Can see Spain winning this and beating Portugal/Switzerland but I can't see them beating France/England who are both outstanding counter attacking teams with real quality
I think Portugal will beat this spain team. Don’t know why Spain aren’t playing morata, they look far better when he plays.

They lack depth among other things but if ever in my life Spain play with that tremendous defensive wall I think I would pass on watching the games.
If I had to bet right now I'd say we lose on penalties.

They played in essentially a knockout game in the nation's league just 3 months ago where Portugal just needed a draw to go through, but Spain dominated them and got a deserved win. Obviously different in a world cup, but still... Portugal has the players but don't have the coaching.

Moroccan fans have been good at least, it sounds like a game is on.

Could see this ending 1-1 if Morocco keep this up. Spain look easily ruffled.

For my money, I love the way Japan played and I despise how Spain is playing. Morocco is taking it to them and Spain are playing for penalties from the first whistle.

Spain high fiving one another and wanking themselves into a frenzy over completing 300 sideways passes in the center circle. Enrique is a terrorist on a mission to destroy the popularity of football.

Haven't watched but is it right Spain have had all the ball, half-a-thousand passes and no shots on goal?

Seems about right.

Nah. You will win 1-0 or 2-0

I think Spain will dominate possession against most teams but if you’ve got players that are good on the counter then it’s easy to score past Spain as they look vulnerable at the back.

By far the most competitive game of this round. Morocco have been aggressive and disciplined out of possession (helped by a ref who is letting them get away with all sorts) and look like they could physically overpower and outrun Spain. Think Spain will still pull this off but Busquets looks too old for this.

I agree, Spain are ruining this game. They too should turtle up in their own half and wait to capitalize on mistakes. That would be great football.

Again 500 passes and no shooting.

I know De Gea has a few weaknesses to his game but his form has been very good this season and he's improved his kicking. I can't help but think he'd be a better goalkeeper than this one for Spain.

Spain are a joyless shower of shit. I cannot stand this "death by a thousand cuts" type of football.
It’s the problem with Pedri and Gavi. They need a creative player beside them but listening to pundits and fans they’d Xavi and Iniesta reincarnated

Commentators here asking if Infantino is even present at these games or if they're playing the same clip at every match

Fans of the teams left in this tournament: how would you feel about your team playing this Spanish side (presuming they win)? I'm exhausted just watching them :boring:

I've long argued that the opposition tactics are what make Spain games boring, and again, it's true here but I think Spain's tactics also contribute to a frustrating game. They're too conservative with their passing. It'd be nice to see one of their players get on the ball and drive at defenders, to shift it and shoot. Just mix it up a little.

I mean, teams park the bus v Man City or v that prime Barcelona team but their games were never as boring as Spain games always seem to be.

I see Marocco gave up attacking

I quite enjoyed watching their 2008 team, every team since has bored me to tears. I find their style to be a bit anti-football personally.

I really need someone to score...

I mean, thats exactly what they are doing, except they are turtling in the midfield. 1 attempt 0 on target after dominating for an hour.

Morocco are just as conservative with their defending. If they were more aggressive with their pressing this game would open up. It remains a both sides equation.

I hate everything about the Spanish national team. Their passing and ball retention are great but I hate to watch it tbh, specially when they don't have a striker
