Day 14: Mexico vs Sweden, South Korea vs Germany, Serbia vs Brazil, Switzerland vs Costa Rica

Totally disagree. In fact, I would say that is the best and pretty much every match has been competitive. Every team regardless of where they come from and how small their country is seem to know how to play footy. Long gone are days when the usual suspects had field days when they faced outsider teams.

Disagree all you like. Competitive does not mean the standard and skills are good. They aren't that's why it's been so level.

Brazil aren't winning this tournament.
I don't think so as well. They are definitely more defensive and conservative than usual but their back line is still shaky and they allow too many clear chances against their goal to be one of the favorites of the tournament. Other teams will take advantage.

Can’t believe we’re going to have to put up with Sweden and Switzerland in the last 16. Hopefully Sweden play their hearts out and do them.

That makes for a better world cup for me. This has been a very enjoyable first round bar a couple of games.

Ah but the standard of football we watched all season was sky high right :wenger:
Let's keep rewriting how club football actually is and ignore all the mistakes that happen just because the world cup is much more exciting and dramatic and less tactic obsessed.

For all their hype I can't remember when brazil last entertained like their reputation suggest that they will. This team is full of robotic runners and divers, cheats and drama queens.

This Brazil side are nothing special but it still may be enough to go far this time around.
And Tite is the man for the times. He apparently travelled the world (mainly Europe probably) to check out things. He knew Brazil needed to adapt or fall back. Dunga probably did too but lacked something, charisma maybe.

What are you on about? I am talking purely about the World Cup.

It's been shit quality wise in the main.

I think people in this thread who have a severe dislike for Brazil are trying to convince themselves that Brazil are nothing special. Not my pick to win the WC but I reckon they will continue to improve and have potential.

I guess he studied diving the most.

Brazil can turn it on when they want. They are more sound at the back this time. I actually fancy them to win it.

Can we at least see Fred for the last 10 minutes? Why is he not getting a look in?

Honestly think that the standard of World football, both club and international is fairly poor at the moment. Best international tournament that I can recall is Euro 2000, Messi and Ronaldo have carried the sport in the last few years.

I liked them before and struggling to see what's good with this team. Static, rarely makes off ball runs and defensively shaky. Their midfield is boring to watch, and their superstar best show so far was crying after Costa Rica game and rolling on the pitch today. Underwhelming to say the least.

The previous 3 tournaments Brazil started as underwhelming as this one and they all ended with a terrible result. This one isn't gonna be any different with this rate.

The world cup is dramatic but most games put you to sleep and are not enjoyable to watch at all. Even the best teams so far jave played in a way where it feels as though our season never ended.

Still the favourites for me. Despite the workman like performances in the group stage.

Lee Dixon talking shite. Germany would've been facing Brazil next round anyway so one of them would've been out no matter what. All that happened is it made Brazil's passage into quarters so much easier. Doesn't change anything for England.

And the way Germany were playing anyway there was feck all to fear from them.

They're better on the ball than any other team in the tournament. That includes the whiny Neymar.

If they don't start making some runs and putting some efforts, it won't matter once they play a better tactical team.

It really hasnt. There have been some low quality matches of course like I'm every tournament, plenty of high quality ones too though. Maybe you're just complaining that there isnt a single clear cut favourite? I dunno. There has been plenty of quality on display, quality goals, dramatic moments, upsets with well drilled smaller teams, dominant performances from big sides... pretty much everything you would want.
