Day 14: Mexico vs Sweden, South Korea vs Germany, Serbia vs Brazil, Switzerland vs Costa Rica

I went into my X Files and discovered Jan Anderson was the manager of Halmstad who eliminated Sporting in 2005 at a Uefa Cup qualifier after the final we lost that year. Already said it here more than once Anderson is the Swedish version of Santos if not even better. :D

That is impressive; that you were aware of it.:) He won the league with a non-favourite as IFK Norrköping. And he is like Lagerbäck, a manager who was unfairly criticised in Sweden and who was phenomenal for Iceland in the Euros. Janne Andersson is not criticised (obviously) but kind of like Santos and Lagerbäck gets the most out of the little quality that are in the team. Although, to be fair, Santos got the luxury of having 2-3 quality players - except that; they are similar.

Doesn't the same apply to England? As in neither have faced anything so far? I think that game could show us a lot but not much because both sides are through and will want to avoid injury and cards. I've been impressed with England but feel Belgium have been a bit more impressive so far.

Hope the English media shuts up though, first time the pressure has been off and it needs to stay that way. Too many times an injured Rooney had too much pressure on his shoulders before. Just let the guys play and be proud of what they achieve.

Edit: for @RedDevil@84. Internet is screwed here.

Rooting for England now.

If Löw is still national coach tomorrow, I'll start a petition myself.

Quite frankly before it started I wasn't on the mood to support them related with some players issues, but after the Spain game I felt it would be a disaster if we didn't qualified.

But now I don't mind if we lose to Uruguay if Santos doesn't change the team. At least it won't be with Argentina and the arrogant Messi brigade, hopefully before we start the French don't bottle this, if not this place will be annoying to say the least.

 So much to think about

Nah. English folk generally like Brazil. Germany on the other hand...........

I suppose Neymar muddies the waters though.
Neymar is managing to make even some Brazilians not support the nt. After the Olimpics final some Brazilian guys were there with the German flag to annoy him, close to the pitch, and started a meltdown and a fight after the game:lol:Epic.

Did you guys have problems with him going into the WC?
There's a large proportions of Germans who never liked Löw much and only started to accept him after 2014. He's always been very special with his formations and selections... There'll be plenty who see him going as an acceptable silver lining to all of this.

Aren't the likes of Kroos Muller Ozil all supposed to be in their prime??
Just goes to show maybe we get peak ages wrong, either that or the side needed some real young legs in it.

No. But after 12 years and such a tournament, you need a change really.

Cheers. You guys'll bounce right back.

Muller and Ozil are done for.

Kroos was unlucky by the tactical rubbish Low did by playing him in 2 men midfield. He's not a holding midfielder. Madrid tried this rubbish before and failed. How Low did this mistake again I can't understand.

They became glaringly apparent last two months before the cup. Seeing how things went down, I'm thinking a big problem already was created last year, when our confed cup team was made up entirely of youngsters without the WC2014 players, and now old and young were expected to work together but didn't. Sane's omission and the infuriating clinging to Khedira are in the same vein. Löw had four years to integrate the young players and clear out the ones past it, and this went completely to shit.

Caf's obsession with age is insane. Your body doesn't decide oh you're 30, you're going to lose your legs now. It's about motivation and effort, plenty of players fade away in their mid 20s while plenty of players do well in their 30s.

My issue before the tournament was the central midfield. I felt with Kroos in there you needed another player in midfield. When i saw the lineup today i thought good move but apparently Goretzka played RW?

It has so much variance, the numbers are always some kind of average. That said even assuming they're at their peak it's possible to have poor form, small injuries, fatigue from a long season.

It seems like complete tosh but I think there might be something true about strikers getting a bit worse after 30. Does seem that way in the Prem at least.

But with the Caf it's never actually about strikers so it's kind of a moot point.

Germany has done some seriously embarrassing stuff in its history.

This doesn't even make it's top 50.

Which says it all.

Auf Wiedersehen.

Unsurprisingly, Sweden are doing better without Zlatan.
It’s not surprising at all. Our tactics under Hamrén were hoofing it up to Zlatan. Hamrén was basically Zlatan’s bitch on and off the pitch. Janne Andersson is a hard mf, he would never let Zlatan have that role. It’s not Zlatan’s fault, it’s down to the manager. This Swedish team is the best we have had for a very long time.
