Yet another meaningless update from Fab the fraud. Spurs also agreed personal terms with Raya and Raya also told us he wanted to go there, Spurs also made a bid at a similar level level - all according to Romano…

You’re right about the fact that a bid of that size will be rejected, it will take a lot (not a little) more closer to our £40m asking price for us to sell this window. As far as I know our position hasn’t changed and we are prepared for him to sit on the bench if nobody comes close to meeting what we want.

We will see. I expect this to get done for around 30m all in. Thomas Frank said as much about meeting in the middle.

By the way how high do you rate him as you are expecting 40m when Onana went for 47m. I think he is better than Ramsdale but not sure by how much.

Thomas Frank has said we will sell when our valuation has been met - haven’t seen the meet in the middle quotes myself…

I am biased but for me he is up there with Ederson and Allison so in the top 3 in the league. I honestly haven’t seen Onana play much so don’t know if he is better than him. I do think he is comfortably better than Ramsdale though and the stats seem to back that up. Plus he is homegrown so well worth the £40m…

He would have been my pick to replace De Gea to be honest... So it's a great pick up for Arsenal.

They're irritatingly competent these days

I don't rate Ederson to be even close to Allison. Allison is currently the best keeper in the world and its not even close for me.

With what you describe 35-40m may seem fair but not with 1 yr on contract. Honestly with one year on contract anything above 25m is a very good offer (may not be from Brentfords perspective but it is what it is)

Would only have been IF we couldn't get any of Onana/Maignan/Costa but that’s just me

Would have been happy with any of those bar Costa to be fair... So I'm happy with Onana, but yeah, Raya would just about have been my personal preference.

There is something about Onana that we haven't seen in goal since Schmeichel. Yes there will most likely be some ricks but boy it's gonna be so entertaining too

Which, if you are trying to buy a player from us, is all that counts at the end of the day. No point in putting out a value for a player the selling them for half that value - would leave us in a weak position for all future transfers. Anyway not hearing anything is close yet so a lot more negotiations ahead.

Does not matter what Brighton think what they should get. With 1 year on contract its a matter of what Brighton could get. Its a shit position to be in.

All the talk of keeping him on bench is just posturing. No way a club says no to 25m+ and getting his salary off when they don't even plan to use him. If you had not gotten a first choice keeper then there may have been some substance to this but not the way it is now.

As i mentioned, expect this to get done around 30m all-in at max. 25m + 3/5m in addons.

Spurs seemed to have believed the talk though, so let's see.

Or they were not willing to go close to 30m. Or more likely they could not risk this dragging as they wanted a starting keeper now.
With Spurs/Chelsea getting someone else Brightons position is weaker not stronger as there are only so many teams who could pay 25m+ for a keeper.

Brighton wont be getting anything for him, he plays for Brentford.

Raya is under contract so Brentford can set the price, nothing wrong with that. Let's see if all three parties (including the player) can do a deal, and also depends on if Matt Turner leaves as well.

I agree it does not matter what Brighton think and I don't think they will be getting too much out of a Raya move to Arsenal ;)

Anyway let's see how it plays out but it will take an offer closer to the 40m to get this done this window imho - than 20m raising to 25m which leaves us in a weakened position for when we come to sell Toney in January or next summer and all future transfers. It will be a case of what ever Brentford ask for just offer half and that will get it done....

Not sure we need this deal to happen as much as Brentford. If he is out of contract next season we could maybe wait. We risk on losing out but there are other fish in the sea. Meanwhile they have a player on the bench that will turn into a zero asset next year. 40 mil is a lot, but we seem to have money to burn lately... probably hence why the 40 mil evaluation in the first place. I suspect this will go for about 30 mil. We can possibly get 10-15 for Turner in return.

I thought the caf didn’t rate this fellow. Yet he’s replacing someone who seemingly performed well last season.

Ornstein describe the 23m bid as slightly below what Brentford are looking for. I understand journalist can jump the gun but Ornstein is generally not one of those. Think this gets done at 28/30. In anycase this mostly gets done in a week or so as Forest has already bid for Turner aswell.

Ornstein is pretty much the oracle for Arsenal transfers so this will happen. maybe even less than 30.

I honestly cannot say I have much of an opinion on Raya. I don't feel his performances are that noticeable which is not necessarily a bad thing. I am sure a Brentford fan can comment more on him. I didn't see a clanger from him in the Brentford matches I saw. His box presence is somewhat average. I feel Rams when he is on has a higher ceiling maybe but he seems to suffer at times from lack of concentration, while Raya is more reliable. Rams does not always wrist/push out some more expected saves...that Liverpool goal comes to mind. Competition is always good. Raya will be coming in under more level footing than Turner and we will see who the better choice is over time.

It’s his go-to wording to pad out his updates: “personal terms agreed”; “personal terms not an issue” etc etc.

Seems like Brentford's asking price has dropped as expected.

I'd believe Ornstein over Fab definitely hopefully in his mind 23m is slightly lower than 40m in this crazy world of transfers ;)

As per the tweets thread:

Unfortunately it’s Fab chatting rubbish again - as of 10am today this is not a done deal - it’s not even close.

A lot more negotiations to go before this happens, if it does still happen.

One domino down:

Arsenal definitely need a keeper now - our hand strengthened, show us the money gooners :)

He's 3rd in the Spanish pecking order behind the likes of Unai Simon and Kepa.. Our fans wanted him as a De Gea replacement last season so I'm not sure what to make of this deal. I just hope Arsenal gets fleeced and Brentford are interested in Dean Henderson.

Brentford have already signed their Raya replacement.

He will be an upgrade on Ramsdale and a real asset for Arsenal. They are having a blast of a transfer window. Which will make the expectations higher than ever.

Seems at around 30m

Basically 20m to upgrade from Turner to Raya. Decent business. Salary at 100k (rumoured) is also sustainable. Both keepers on similar pay.

@el diablorojo

Interesting dynamic that will be brewing at Arsenal this season.

I do not see either Raya or Ramsdale willingly accepting a backup role and I don't really think there is any sane way to rotate keepers without messing with team chemistry. Someone is going to be upset and the odds are it will be Ramsdale as you just don't spend that kind of money on a guy to warm the bench.

Hopefully they’ve downgraded

The feckers can’t stop spending

It's a very odd signing as the two styles are very different, and hence you'd assume they'd play slightly different playing out from the back when Raya is in goal vs when Ramsdale is playing.

They will be much better playing out the back with Raya rather than with Ramsdale imo
