Absolute legend. A weird way for him to leave, for someone who's been at the club for so long. Slightly anti-climatic. Anyway, all the best to him. Interested to see where he goes now.

Our second-best keeper after van der Sar

Deserved a better send off.. hopefully a testimonial gets sorted for him. One of the best shot stoppers I’ve ever seen for that 3-4 year period.

Really sad how the Club make a mess of his ending. The guy was always available week-in week-out for the last 12 years, a total pro on and off the pitch.

Watching someone else guarding that posts will feel so different. There's a big boots to fill there.

I reckon he will get a testimonial during our pre season. Maybe 2011 and 2012 squad will be involved.

Hope people get a chance to reflect on his United career now and bin the negative rhetoric. He was a rock in our most difficult period in decades and deserves huge respect. He'll go down in the pantheon of great United keepers. Hope he finds a good next step. All the best Dave.
We go on about the points he cost us, but how many points did he also save us. It could have been more years out of europe and the financial issues it would have caused. Problem is he needed a proper rival, which in Romero he had, until we also messed that up.

I don't disagree it appears the club could have maybe handled this better but then again - what departure from a club is ever truly graceful? We have had a lot of great players leave through the back door, as they have at many (most?) other clubs. And frankly, Dave seems to be the kinda guy who may prefer it this way.

On another note: thanks for all the memories, you truly were a great and the rock that held us together at times when everything else seemed to fall apart. You are a club legend and wish you the very best in the remainder of your footballing career, and the rest of your life overall. I hope the club will ensure you will become forever enshrined in this club's great history. Thanks Dave!

Cheers for everything Dave. Certified legend. It was the right time to go but a shame his exit was handled with absolutely zero class or respect but I wouldn’t expect anything less from the club under the Glazer ownership.

Good luck, Dave. Looking forward to his successor.

Shambolic handling by the club but what's new there.
It’s on him as much as it’s on us. If he hadn’t delayed signing the contract he would still be here. If he hadn’t performed so poorly in a good few important games toward the end of the season ETH wouldn’t have lost trust.

He would've won so many titles if he left and played for Madrid. No doubt about that.

But for staying with us and saving us in our most difficult period is a stuff of legend. Without DDG we could've been in worse place.

A legend for me. Love him, and good luck to his future endeavours.

It's easy to say nice things when you know it's finished but I do feel emotional about this. Since Fergie's retirement only felt similar to this when Vidić was leaving, not even for Ferdinand, Evra, Giggs or Rooney.

Anyways, De Gea was unbelievably good for at least 4-5 seasons. Ever since 2018 it's not been as good and his obvious weaknesses always meant we need new GK but he still had his WC moments from time to time.

I'm happy and sad at the same time. And as someone said it'll be really odd not having him between the sticks after 12 years. It's a really long period and no doubt David has been our best player over that period.

Leaves with most clean sheets in United history and 4th more in Premier League.

Will be interesting to see where he goes.

Sad to see him go, an incredible keeper and a great player. Some of his saves were jaw dropping.

What strikes me is looking at the players around him when he makes saves; McNair, Schneiderlin, Fellaini, Darmian, Rojo, Maguire. Just absolute dross.

Incredible keeper and will be missed.

All the best Dave. Even though the time is right, I’m sad to see you go. Lots of great memories :)

I’d be interested to hear how posters criticising the club for “handling his departure badly” would have liked it to be done. Not that we really know how it was handled anyway.

I’ve been critical of De Gea for a while, though the club has dealt with this atrociously. Now that he’s leaving, his decline over the last few seasons shouldn’t overshadow what he was: one of the greatest shot-stoppers of all time. Below is his magnum opus, Arsenal away 2017-18. One of the greatest individual performances of all time, up there with Maradona against England, Messi against Arsenal, Ronaldinho at the Bernabeu etc

Came here a boy and left a man, he was great from around 2012-2018.

It's a shame his time ended this way, he deserves a testimonial or a proper send off.

He won us a good amount of games we had no right winning. Fantastic career for us for many years, wish him the very best, and it sums us up how we bungled his farewell.

Pretty much how I feel right now. Much like when Rooney was declining, its hard for me to blame his mistakes and performances because he had done so much for United. Same thing with De Gea, granted he didnt win as much, not even close as Rooney but you cant forget how he saved us multiple times even when our back 4 were a disaster.

Good luck De Gea. Another thing that reminds me of my age... will be weird not seeing him as the first name on the pitch.

GL Dave

It was time but the club as usual made a right mess of his departure

Sad that he’s gone :(

I think people have been caught up in media spin, the club and him probably decided it was best for both parties.

No animosity, no bad words just moving on.

Only the media make a meal out of it because a) it's United b) people lap it up.

Going to feel slightly strange not seeing him around next season. It's a shame that it had to end in a bit of a mess, the decision should have been made a while back but hopefully he can return to say goodbye at one of our home games.

Good luck and thanks!

Absolute legend. From kid to man with us. Going to be odd to see him in another kit.

There's a way to handle departures of players who've played for this club for 10+ years and this was not it.

Time for him to go, but a sad day, indeed. Feel rather emotional, to be honest. The last of the Fergie players. It's officially gone now. Made worse by how it was handled, but on par for the course.

Legend of the club.

Have been thinking this is the right thing for a while but now it’s actually happened I feel very sad. I still think it’s right but man, he’s been our keeper for 12 years. That’s basically a third of my life.

Wish him all the best.

Legend and been treated poorly by the club and sections of fans too. Been world class and will be remembered as one of the best of his time.

His performance at Emirates in December 2017 and at Spurs in 2018/19 were phenomenal. Has had so many of those but think those 2 stand out.

Edit: also against Liverpool at Old Trafford in 2014. But so many more.

Shame he couldn't have stayed as 2nd choice, but he's probably young enough and good enough to be first choice for a good club. Maybe he will go back to Spain

I agree it's time for him to move on but absolutely shocking the way the club has handled such a long time servant who has bailed us out the s**t a hell of a lot over the last few years

Wish him all the best for the future and thank you for what you did the last few years

Great player. Club icon in a dreadful period. The last connection to SAF?
