David de Gea has left Manchester United

You clearly haven’t watched him the last year.
You don’t base it on one year, as a whole he’s pulled us out of many many defeats in what was a poor side. I prefer to think of him over 12 years not 1. Not forgetting he just won the golden glove last year!!

Thank big Dave, for good memories (and bad ones).
Hope club gives him proper farewell.

Never seen a goalkeeper save a club so many fecking times it embarrassing. Imagine how much better and confident he'd be with at least one solid partnership after Vidic and Rio. Shame its only now our defence has got its shite together and at least he leaves with a Golden Glove.

Would now be an appropriate time to mention doughnuts?
I thought of that incident when someone mentioned him going to SA. If he goes there he best be careful or he could find himself without the tools to do his job.

Great servant to the club. Time for a new chapter. Last of the players to have played under Fergie, maybe this will be the end of the hoodoo.

Loved him...Maybe a year too late for his departure but timing these perfectly is almost impossible, so I can't blame either side.

All of those upset about the Club's handling of him is weird take for me. We paid him above average wages and he was never mistreated by any Manager. It was just good business to hedge potentially keeping him if we couldn't find an alternative...I'm actually pretty impressed with the process here.
I don't have an issue with the club wanting to part company with him at this point in time, given his wages and ETH's preference for a keeper who can play out from the back. Until recently, he was valued by all his managers. In that sense, the process has been perfectly business-like and carried out with confidentiality. It's more the human level of showing a bit more respect in the way players leave, especially when they've been here as long as DDG. It reminds me of the way Mata and Valencia left with just a routine announcement. Admittedly, it's difficult, though, with the negotiations going down to the wire after the season was over, and the club can't help the rubbish served up by journalists.

Thanks Dave. For a few years he was easily the best goalkeeper in the world. Best he moved on. My only issue is it wasn't done in season so he got a proper send off.

The right move for both parties. De Gea is no longer good enough to start here, doesn't fit Ten Hag's way of playing and his wage demands will be too high for a bit-part player.

Hope he gets a good move.

Nice guy and a great keeper at his best. Grossly overpaid and should have gone a few years ago but that’s the club’s fault, not his. All the best Dave.

I know there's no room for sentiment in football but he deserved a better send off.

He wouldnt have lasted so long at Madrid if he played like he has with us last few years.
He lasted zero seasons in fact, as they got cold feet and realised they would soon be able to sign a superior goalkeeper for better value. The broken fax machine is a complete myth.

Correct that the fax machine is a myth.

I think United got cold feet, not Madrid. United uploaded its documents to TMS with about five minutes remaining in the transfer window. Madrid didn't have enough time left to finalize the deal on their end at that point before TMS closed. To me, that implies United never really intended on selling him.

I presume TMS means something to do with transfer market system? It'd be interesting see hear more about how transfers actually work in this regard.

Transfer Matching System

It's the system managed by FIFA that all transfers go through. Everything is uploaded electronically, no faxes involved.

Genuinely sad to see him go, wanted him when Neuer was mooted after Van Der Sar retired and even with his flakey beginnings you could really see him blossoming into something special.

The last few years whether through confidence or the game moving on have exposed his shortcomings but it shouldn't be forgotten how he saved us from peril and potential bottom half finishes especially during Van Gaals reign

Fantastic keeper and fantastic club servant. Played excellently through better times and some awful phases.... never complained, never stopped giving 100%, and never stopped caring for the club, shirt, fans. He had some big 'gloves' to fill in Van Der Sar, and he did so, incredibly, incredibly well.

How many players at big clubs can you say the same? Fpr over a decade.

Guy is a club legend. Simple.

Time to move on (and he will go to a good team, he's still better than the vast majority..), but I have nothing but good things to say about David De Gea.

Rashy’s social media team with a bit of a howler in his farewell message to DDG.

Wish DDG all the best for the rest of his career.

He was a loyal servant to the club so I'm fond of him for that. Personally, I always thought of him as a 'play it safe' keeper who wasn't the kind of dominant presence in goal I'd have liked us to have (such as Schmeichel and Van Der Sar).

But for a number of years he did make some very good saves, and during our rather lean years was one of our most consistent performers. However, if we're looking to finally kick on to another level, and to play ETH's preferred style, then now is definitely the right time to move on from him. Especially as he's far from the elite shot stopper that he used to be.

No issues at all with his character and behaviour over his many years here. And was a solid enough performer for many of those years. But declining performances in recent years, and definitely the right time to part ways. Though, as I said, I wish him all the best for the rest of his career.

Thanks for some brilliant years David. We will remember always. And very best of luck in your future career.

Club legend, a real nice guy, and gave us something to cheer about in some pretty dire moments as a United fan. Was outstanding for a good few year before his performances started to decline. Best of luck DDG!

Thanks for your years of servitude Dave. You were genuinely one of the world's best for a period of time. Hope the next phase of your career is also great!

At his prime, incredible. 2014-18 he was one of the best goalkeepers in the world.

Should've won more with us, but we've been such a shitshow since 2013 - he's bailed us out so many times since then.

It's definitely the right time for him to leave, hope he goes on to have a good 5/10 years at another club. Cheers Dave.

It’s good to see a sensible post. The abuse Dave has had to endure the last three weeks, led by Beth at The United Stand, has been appalling.

I'm going to be totally brutal here, I've never known a keeper make so many high profile blunders and yet still hold such high regard.

He's literally thrown so many big games away for us over the last five years. No doubt he was incredible for the five before that but some of the errors have not only cost us games but also opportunities to win trophies.

So long and good luck with the rest of your career David.

I've no idea how you watch that shite mate. Absolute drivel.

Other than the incredible saves he made over the years, I would love to see a compilation of the reactions from fans, United or opposition to some of those saves. You'd see fans already celebrating a goal only for Dave to pull off the incredible and the change in emotion from one of pure joy to absolute shock and confusion was a thing of beauty.

The one against City in the 2-3 from I think Aguero, where the City fans are already bouncing and there's a woman whose face just drops comes to mind but there were many others. If anyone has the skills, time and patience to do this is would be incredible.

The shitehawks that run the marketing dept just sent an email with De Gea as keeper.

I think a lot of people have short memories. He really was so good for a few years and kept us from being awful.

Definitely the right decision and I hope he gets to say goodbye to the fans. Seems like he loved the club and the city and hope he gets a good move.

See this "the last few years" mentioned a few times. Is it really hard to remember that in season under RR, he's one of United best player, probably second only to Ronaldo?

So, i know Twitter is dying and all. But i looked through our best starting 11, and only Casemiro tweeted about DDG today as far as i could see…. Ouch.

That said, thank you David, for a long, strong career with us. Many seasons you were virtually the only thing keeping us afloat. Glad you got to play your part in a few trophies.
All the best for your future!
