Ole doesn't seem to have the guts to drop him

Which is a shame, considering he’s been ruthless (at times) with other players. I think Ole genuinely believed his prior form would return on a consistent basis, but it’s been apparent for a long-time that he never will.

I’ve also mentioned many times prior to tonight that he has form for fecking up in big knockout games, both for club and country, so tonight was no big surprise really.

He’s genuinely one of the worst keepers in the league now, and that’s not hyperbole.

An absolute pussy for their third. At least show some bravery. He was side on, completely upright and then turns his back. Should be benched for that alone.

I’d take a broken nose every game to play for United.

I mean if you look at DDG ever since he's come from Atletico, his personality has pretty much stayed the same. Not very vocal, doesn't command a back four, leads with legs, is scared to go into 1 on 1s, doesn't get out for crosses, it's not a confidence thing as such in my opinion; whenever he's low on confidence he's letting goals through his hands etc (against Everton Watford against Portugal in the WC) which he isn't doing right now... pretty sure its certain now his old form will not return

We're paying him £375,000 a week and he performs like that...meanwhile Dean Henderson sits on the bench and Sergio Romero, who has never let the club down, is being treated as an outcast. The club deserves everything it's getting.

Did the exact opposite of making yourself big for the third goal

He did the same thing in the PSG game on their first goal. Down on one knee and turns his head. As a keeper you need to be a bit of a nutter. Makes yourself as big as possible and throw yourself at it. And even though Maguire shouldn't have assumed De Gea was going to be there to collect that ball and just cleared it out himself, De Gea has to come get that. I've had enough with him. Time for Henderson to grab the #1 and see if he can make it his own...

Told you guys for awhile. He isn’t commanding enough and being rooted to his line constantly really sets the team back. Get rid in the summer.

Him, Maguire and AWB should be benched for a few games!

His shot-stopping isn't good enough at the moment to compensate for his complete lack of box-commanding.

He is a coward. Henderson looks more commanding than him. We should sell him next season. Thanks for your service but even Spain national team selectors have become smart by benching him.
What team is going to take on a 375 a week train wreck ?

If he starts against Manchester City then Henderson must leave the club in January.
Does anyone here truly think Ole will drop de Gea? He won't do it. He doesn't have the courage. He won't admit he was wrong to keep faith in de Gea. And for this reason he cannot be our manager. He cannot make the decisions that are imperative to the club's present and future.

A proper keeper would have thrown himself at the ball, yes you might get kicked but that's part of the job sometimes. The elite keepers are brave.

It was cowardly from him.

I'm fecking sick of watching him do that weird pose where he sort of bends his knee and turns his head whenever someone has a shot from close range. It's the exact fecking opposite of what he should be doing, he's constantly making himself smaller!

I've wanted him out the team since the end of 18/19 when he cost us top 4. He's done numerous feck ups since then and he's only going to get worse the older he gets. Get rid

Yes lets blame De Gea
-For Maguire getting nuttmegged in his own box
-For Maguire getting dribbled and creating a 1v1 - happened numerous times in the past 2 seasons
-For Maguire covering his own player during a corner
-For Maguire letting a cross go in - which any decent defender would kick out for a corner
...

He shares part of the blame for the 3rd goal, but it was mostly Maguire.

First goal was 100% Bissaka's fault. Second goal was Bissaka's and Shaw's. Third goal is about 90% Maguire's fault.

It's acceptable for players to make mistakes. However, from my understanding that was cowardice goalkeeping. He's been a great servant but it's putting a lot of pressure on an already weak defensive unit when our goalkeeper is reluctant to come outside of his comfort zone which is the 6-yard box.

When your keeper has a mistake in him it's time to get rid. Chelsea have dropped kepa after paying a massive fee for him, we should seriously consider the same.

He should have been dropped when he lost us the 4th place in 2018, but Ole continuously backs him and all he got for his faith in him is just De Gea fecking up every few games.

Move him on along with Ole and Pogba.

True 100%

As others have said first 2 goals not his fault. The third he is partly to blame along with Maguire.

Anyone looking at that performance saying De Gea was the biggest reason for us being knocked out needs their head examined.

Its not just that performance though is it. He is a catastrophe waiting to happen, he was never the best goalkeeper in the world regardless of how many claim it, he shits himself when he has to come off the line, has 0 command of his penalty area and has suspect distribution, he WAS for quite a spell the best shot stopper in the world, but that's declined to the point it no longer masks his deficiencies

What difference does being “partly to blame” make? Last night, as he’s done numerous times, he pulled out of a challenge. What precipitated that happening is unimportant from the perspective of analysing DDG. He’s not the biggest issue by a long way but he is an issue and it hasn’t gone away over the last two years. We’re going to have to grasp this nettle sooner or later.

I'm not saying Henderson is better, but against West Ham something similar happened and Henderson came out, made himself as big as possible and snuffed out the attack.

De Gea decided to make himself as small as possible. Inexcusable. A complete shit-house and he needs to go. £375k a week :wenger:

We need to move him on but that's unlikely with the fat contract he's on.

Scoured the market, found no takers, reluctantly signed the bloated contract, now just killing time on the rest of his career. Needs a move desperately if he’s ever going to get close to what he was

If the third goal last night was a one off then it wouldn't be as frustrating.
However the fact is that this is not a one off, it's the complete opposite, it happens pretty much every time a cross comes near De Gea, he may as well not be there.
If our coaching staff, who are paid to analyse these things, cannot see the problems this is causing us week in week out then they don't deserve to be there.

Im not for one second, saying that De Gea is the only problem at the club, but, for me, he is the biggest liability in the team right now and the fact that he is one of our senior players and is the highest paid player in the whole league, makes it an even bigger problem.

I've been saying this for years now and a lot of us on here were warning that giving him that ridiculous new contract, considering he'd been an absolute liability for 18 months prior to getting it, had disaster written all over it.
We were constantly told that we were wind up merchants, hadn't a clue or had an agenda against the lad.
Surely those that were saying that can now see that we are just passionate fans who want the best for our club and anyone who still thinks sticking with De Gea is best for our club, then I'm sorry but you're kidding yourself.

As I said, last nights error was far from a one off:

Romero and Henderson were enough for us.

We never needed 10 out of 10 goal keeping when trying to build a team up; especially when we have to address areas such as defenders and even if we did - Henderson and Romero were good enough to cover up the gaps until the end where we can get that world class well rounded goal keeper if needed.

He just isnt well rounded.

We bash Martial inability to make runs and play like a poacher, Wan Bissaka's inability to make a cross, Pogba's inability to play like an energetic midfielder and yet De Gea has arguably been here for a decade now working off a single reflex ability.

I appreciate his time here - but it will be a big help for us when he goes. Big contract for a player for a single world class talent.

think its time now to give Henderson a chance, would have done it in the summer if it was me, he stuck with him and thought his performances had improved but this last 4 weeks you can see all the little mistakes creeping back in, clearly this defence needs more talking to which has always been a weakness of De Gea. time for a Change

Henderson was also beaten remarkably easily on Istanbul’s second goal earlier in the group. People thinking all our problems go away by replacing De Gea will be very disappointed.

De Gea doesnt inspire any confidence from our defence. I dont think it is complete coincidence that all the defenders we buy seem to decline and suddenly become shit. The common factor has been the goalkeeper, who is well known for not being particularly vocal or commanding.

De Gea was always a fantastic shot stopper - he made saves that he had no right to make, and won us points single handedly as a result. However aside from this, the other facets of his game have always been lacklustre. Unfortunately, it seems that De Gea's reactions and shot stopping ability has either declined, or for whatever reason is no longer enough to get us through matches.

In the few games where we saw Henderson, I thought it was obvious how much more confidence he appeared to give the defenders. He was more vocal, more commanding, more dominating (not to mention better distribution and better at rushing out). These are traits that are required for a GK for a top side, and unfortunately De Gea has been unable to acquire them.

It is time to give Henderson a chance. We may concede the occasional goal where we think "De Gea may have saved that", but we will arguably concede far fewer goals thanks to improved communication and confidence among our back line.
