Only Pique, Ramos, Iniesta, Silva, Busquet, Alba remains starter from their last winning side. And those are the ones who played equally poor all around. You can't blame De Gea for their inability to score at all.
And how das that make any criticism directed towards De Gea less valid? He was bad, people are saying he was bad. How do his teammates matter here? Especially since he's playing the most isolated position on the field and is the player least affected by his colleagues.

At least you can be sure that Florentino won´t make an offer. I doubt he´ll play with Spain again

Its not making it less valid. Spain inability to score in open play was on their outfield players. Putting the most blame on him just plain stupid because they can avoid penalties in first place.

Are you blaming De Gea also? Just curious

I blame everyone, not just him. Today the fault is for the field players and the coache, although in the group matches he seemed nervous. He could have stopped a penalty.

It's hard to succeed a legendary keeper like Casillas. The pressure and expectations from the media and fans. If you also make a couple of mistakes then those people won't be very forgiving. Similar with goalkeepers after Schmeichel. Although I do believe that this mental and psychological burden has partly led to those mistakes.

Doesn't do De Gea any favours that he never really played in Spain, like Messi never played in Argentina. People favour their own and maybe Spanish people see Dave as a "foreigner".

I'm pretty sure De Gea was on a holiday this whole time and that was some sort of a clone.

He was going nowhere, even before the World Cup. If he won’t play for Spain again it’s no concern to United fans. This Spanish side will struggle with that bunch of clown defenders and blunt forwards, no matter who stands in goal.

He’s not had the best tournament or time, let’s not get away from that. Still, get him back to Manchester where he’s worshipped and he’ll be fine.

Nobody is saying he's the only one to blame. At least I haven't seen anyone doing so. But he still played a bad tournament and deserves his fair share of the blame. I don't really get what you are trying to say.

He’s getting criticised because at least 2/4 penalties he probably would have expected to save? Nothing more in it then that IMO.

I think DDG is probably the best keeper in the league but no doubt he’s not been at his best this tournament and made a few errors before it started.

Yeah feel sorry for DDG though.

As you say, Spain need a reboot going forward. When Rodrigo's your most threatening attacker you know you've got issues

Possibly, there are players who should leave the team. I imagine that we will return to the era of being losers, well, actually we are already there from 2014

Of course it matters who is in the goal. Zubizarreta was a disaster, like Molina, but Iker knew how to stop penalties

No they are not. Keepers study the opposition's penalty techniques including which side they mostly hit but also practice saving them, there were two penalties De Gea really should have saved.
I have no doubt there's loads of preperation going into saving penalties but even if you guess the right side (like De Gea once did today) there's no guarantee you'll actually save the penalty. There's even an element of the player slightly miss hitting the ball enough to send the keeper just about in the wrong direction.

Look I am not saying De Gea is the best keeper in the world at saving penalties. Some keepers are genuinely really good at them. But I have a hard time blaming (especially as harsh a criticism as DDG is reciveing) any keeper for conceding a penalty considering there's so much out of their control.

Could've saved a couple, no doubt.

Being a top class shot stopper doesn't automatically translate to being a great penalty stopper. Dave doesn't seem very good at reading the taker, nor at messing with his head. He isn't much of a gambler either, it seems.

He also looks a bit stiff to me, uneasy, which he shouldn't be. A shootout is a chance for the keeper to shine without having any massive, inherent pressure on him (unlike the poor bastards who have to take the penalties).

Pretty far down the list, though, when it comes to worrying weaknesses in a keeper.

If he doesn't play for Spain again it'll show how ridiculously fickle you are and how poorly you treat players, and he'll be better off away from it all.

De Gea is still, by far and away, the best shot stopper in the world and I will champion that to the end. But best GK in the world? Hmmm. Luckily for De Gea, Manuel Neuer has had an even worse World Cup so I guess by defacto he is the best.

He has everything still to prove at CL and international level, and that's putting it kindly.

He didn’t make any mistakes today. In fact he only made one mistake all tournament (a pretty big one though tbf), he has a poor record on penalties but you can’t blame him for the shootout. It’s a nothing discussion.

Jury is still out on him for games under pressure.

It's all mental. He has the ability to be world class and performs in the league.

Needs to break the mental barrier and win the CL, league and compete for top international prizes.

There are quite a few players like that in the EPL, including a lot of the England team.

Need to take the next step like Ronaldo, Henry and others did and get their hands on the big trophies.

Somebody earlier said that to beat Spain isn't too difficult.
Put 9 men behind the ball, park the bus, take it to penalties.
DDG isn't partiuclarly good at pens and Spain's opponent should be able to win the penalty shoot-out.

I didn't watch the Spain vs Russia match, but is this pretty much what happened?

I mean he was great vs Real and Bayern. It's a bit weird argument for a keeper anyway. Difficult shots don't get more difficult to save because a more stellar name is shooting it. And he's not exactly playing in non pressure situations.

A bit of a stretch. Ramos and Pique had worse campaigns. Will they be playing for Spain again?
Pretty sure he'll remain number 1.
