I don't think it's any coincidence that his best games come after he plays a few games in a row. Every time Lindergaard comes in for a few games, the next few games after De Gea looks shakey.

He has finally played in five consecutive matches. For the first time, it happened at the beginning of the season.

De Gea 5 –> Lindegaard 1 –> de Gea 1 –> Amos 1 –> de Gea 2 –> Lindegaard 1 –> de Gea 1 –> Lindegaard 1 –> de Gea 1 –> Amos 1 –> de Gea 2 –> Lindegaard 1 –> de Gea 3 –> Amos 1 –> Lindegaard 1 –> de Gea 3 –> Lindegaard 2 –> de Gea 1 –> Lindegaard 4 –> de Gea 1 -> Amos 1 -> de Gea 5.

A hell of a statement to make! I was too young to remember Casillas at a similar age but if its true then we really have a hell of a prospect on our hands... Which anyone whos watched him more than a minute should be able to tell

Casillas has already come out and said he will be Spain's No.1 very soon

De Gea's reflexes are astounding.

The way, he saved that Holt flick was a bit unorthodox but how he held on to it above his head like that was incredible.
I'm all for the camera saves and would love to see a Gif of that cross he plucked out of the air from the right wing.
Schmeichel-esque - and I don't say that easily!

Looked class yesterday. You can see his confidence growing with every catch. Hopefully will get the media off his back!

Must have been the black shorts...

Excellent performance from him yesterday - easily his best for United so far.
What impressed me was not so much the brilliant saves, which we know he can pull off, but the command of his six yard box and his overall decisiveness. That's the area we have been concerned about and he showed yesterday that he can command his area. Very well done - keep it going.

He has played quite well recently so lets hope the media get off his back.

Doesnt seem to bother him at all.
Great great game from him. Want a compilation of all his saves this season.

Apparently, because he is still improving his English, he couldn't even understand the bad reports he was getting in the first half of the season, so it had no effect on him anyway.

Fantastic performances recently, especially yesterday, we'd have lost, without doubt, if he hadn't kept at least 2 of those attempts on goal. (Reading that back it sounds obvious, but you know what I mean...:smirk:)

Was good to see MOTD2 give a bit of recognition to his excellent performance.

I don't watch MOTD any more but I bet they did it in a backhanded compliment sort of way?

"We all know what a dodgy liability De Gea is and we all know he's been at fault for every point United have dropped this season but he actually played quite well today"

Something like that?

Very good performance, he's still capable of having the odd 'mare though - he's only a baby in goalkeeping terms and he's going to drop clangers for a while , we should persevere with him though, he's talent.

He's a rarity for a goalkeeper - exciting to watch.

True, that's what was good about the big Dane.
He wasn't just a stopper but part of the entertainment as well.
Very few keepers about like that.

Agree, I am actually excited to see him in goals...strange really, I don't exactly want him to be peppered with shots for obvious reasons, but I love watching how he keeps.

He will no doubt be one of the best in the world one day, recent improvements in performance have shown that, i know it has been said before, he just needs to bulk up and be more commanding in the area,

Yeah, and the surprise that greets every good save he makes.

''He's had his critics this season but that was an excellent save there''

I wonder at what point they'll realise that he's a very good keeper.

I thought that yesterday was probably his most 'solid' performance for us so far. Other games have had flashier saves (though there were a few nice ones yesterday) but in this game he just seemed so commanding and reliable right from the first whistle. The first time he came out and grabbed the ball in the air and held onto it set the tone for the rest of the game.

I've been a definite supporter of his, and have despaired at some of the predictable media hysteria since he arrived - but yesterday I think he was a level above usual, which probably gave the defence greater confidence as a result.

It will take 2 years I reckon from the MOTD goons to stop referring to his bad start at United

"We didnt get Van Der Sar when he left Ajax. But we did get De Gea when he left Athletico.

And thus commenced a period of 2 decades when one of the all time goalkeeping legends made his name at United, gaining an almost Giggs-esque number of games and more clean sheets than youd find in the Izmailovo Hotel laundry. In doing so he established himself alongside Schmeichel and the aforementioned VDS in Manchester folklore, making a mockery of those that had once doubted his Premier League credentials."

He really showed his character after the first couple of games. Disgustingly vilified in the press, everyone was hoping he would fail. Even many so called United fans were writing him off and lamenting the fact that we could have bought Neuer or Steklenberg instead. On top of that he had the pressure of adapting to a new league where he could not speak the language and had moved to the biggest club in the world. Many with more experience have come and failed, in fact since Schmeichel we can only really say VDS was an unequivocal success.

To turn it all around in the manner he has is outstanding. Hardly any player of that age would have the confidence to put in some of the performances he has done for us. Of course some still won't admit they were wrong but he has been an excellent asset this season and saved us countless times.

He was really good, and not just the saves
Thought he showed some really good moments on the crosses as well, catching some and even for their goal, he got a good punch on it

Sounds good. How do I pre-order a copy?

Developing very nicely as he has for most of the season really, he had a mini slump whilst SAF dicked around with the keepers but other than that De Gea seems to develop game after game. Fingers crossed this run will convince SAF to do away with that ridiculous rotation idea.

It does feel that pundits can't complement him without first making a snide remark or criticising something that happen weeks/months ago.

The good thing about all this is while he's had his problems settling in it doesn't actually seem to be affecting him long term which shows he's got a bit about him and it's really good to see.

I just hope he sticks around instead of pissing off to Madrid or Barca :(

Real won't happen as DDG is a Atletico boy, so like Torres, he would be very unlikely to head there.

Barca on the other hand - hopefully they would go for Reina first :smirk:

You never know anyways but it doesnt matter - I'm sure he'll stay more than long enough
