David Coote allegations | Sacked

It's clever timing to come out at this point.

His sexuality has now become more of the talking point rather than what he did - and the narrative changes and suddenly he becomes more of a 'victim'. And any criticism of him - that was already happening and seen as perfectly valid given the circumstances - now becomes re-interpreted as homophobic.

Had he remained what people thought - a straight, white man - he'd have continued to have had no sympathy for his actions. The fact that he's now a homosexual man changes the narrative as he now falls into one of the demographics that will get much more public support and backing.
Similar thoughts. He’s playing his card at the right time.

Just watched the Sky Interview, it’s hard not to feel sorry for him.

Whoever the person or persons who took the videos and kept them for several years were proper cnuts.

I know some still live in the dark ages but his sexuality shouldn’t have been an issue, look at Nigel Owens who remained a highly respected Rugby Ref after he came out. It’s a shame Coote went down the path of drug taking to deal with his insecurity.

In terms of Coote’s performances as a Ref, whilst there are previous decisions he made now being scrutinised, I don’t think his decision making was any worse than the other wonderful Refs in this league such as Oliver or Taylor.

I hope he’s able to make a career for himself somewhere. No doubt he’s been paid for his story but that will be old news pretty quickly.
