David Brooks

He doesn’t have more end product than Lingard though and he loses the ball far more. Fraser and Wilson are the most productive at Bournemouth with 14 G+A, then Brooks and King have half that with 7 G+A.

If he played for United I’d fancy him to create and score more goals than Lingard. Not dissing Lingard but I just think Brooks has more quality in the final third

I'd never heard of him until very recently but didn't Tom Davies look just as good for Everton a few years ago?

Fraser has the second most assist in the PL with 9 this season playing for Bournemouth. He average 2.4 key passes a game. Brooks only has 2 assists and creates only 1 key pass a game. Similar numbers to Lingard but Brooks loses the ball more in every regard, bad touches, dispossessions and bad passing. Then you have Lingard’s tactical qualities and workrate.

He's a good player. The much lamented Bournemouth transfer division did a good job picking him up fairly cheap. "English" talent usually has an extra tax but that fee for a player that had recently signed a new contract was a good deal.

Sorry didn't realise my underlining question was so cryptic

Oh don't worry it wasn't cryptic, just inane.
"I hadn't heard of him until recently but wasn't there that player who plays in a different position, for a different team, who looked good a few years ago"

Brooks is 21
Davies is 20
Both English, both attacking midfielders

If you need me accentuate any more blindingly obvious similarities between the two let me know

He's gone off the boil a little during this poor spell that Bournemouth are going through but I have been raving about him on here a few times since he joined, he's great. Won't be long until he makes the next step if he carries on at his current trajectory. I'd still give him the slight edge over Digne atm as signing of the season.

I like him. Not fast, but has good ball manipulation, which allows him to get past players. Not what we should be looking for, in my opinion, but he is a good player. Man United fan, too.

Brooks has been playing on the wing, Davies central midfield.
They're a similar age and were both born in England. That means absolutely nothing. They have no bearing on each other at all.

"I hadn't heard of him until recently but Rashford is playing really well now!!1"

Actually watch Brooks and make up your mind about his ability, rather than pointing out the fortunes of a similarly aged player who plays in a different position, it means nothing.

Fortunes? Are you sure my post wasn't too cryptic for you?

You need to stop describing your posts as cryptic. 'Cryptic' suggests there's an actual point to them, rather than just idiocy.

The definition of cryptic is 'hard to understand' you clearly have found my post hard to understand so what I need to do is waste no more of my time with you because continuing to do that would be idiocy

He's caught my eye in a few of the Wales games, does anyone know where he mainly played at Sheffield? It does seem like a lot of his best work comes a little more centrally.

Your post wasn't hard to understand though, there was nothing to understand. It was just an idiotic post.

I know this guy currently plays at RM but does he in the long term seem like a RW that utilises his left foot finish off chances like martial does with his right foot

Or

Does he seem like he will one day become a playmaker able to play in midfield - say as a RCM? Does he have a defensive game at all?

No. And he averages 25.4 passes with 72.4% accuracy per game. So he's far from a playmaker

What a nice goal he scored against Chelsea. Calm and composed when he needed to be. Apparently is a United fan. Would love to have him here.

I’d have him as a mata replacement. Seems pretty quick and direct but skilful too. Good decision making also.

I've never heard of the lad. Sign him the feck up.

Worth a punt? He always looks bright and would easily be better than some of our current peripheral midfield options. Only 21 as well.

I actually came to look for a David Brooks thread. Been watching him all season. Has something about him. Good technical quality on the ball. Great energy. Looks like room for loads of improvement. I'll definitely be in favour of getting him. Can see him on the right wing and will be good cover for Pogba in midfield when he needs a rest.

He's a class act. Wales did really well to snap him quickly.

Pretty sure he plays as a no.10. Anyway I'd say his best position is definitely as a no.10. He doesn't have the pace to be a top winger or even a wide forward.

He can be our wide playmaker. Possibly the cheaper option to Sancho.

A good talent, has some skill etc.. like Foden.. or looking back, Bentley, Wiltshire etc.

I wouldn't mind him at OT, but he isn't going to start many games. And as someone mentioned, he needs to develop some power and pace to play at top six sides. Get him on a good deal, and he is happy to develop his game at United, then yes, I would love him.

If you don't have pace, you won't have pace. He can be a strong runner instead. Pretty much like Beckham.

First time paying attention to him last night. Was only extended highlights but he looks an intelligent player.

Was at Manchester City's academy for a decade. Would he sign for their biggest rivals?

A tidy left footed player named Ryan Giggs also was at City's academy before signing to United.

He's a quality little player. Always makes an impact when he plays for Wales, even if it's 10 minutes off the bench. Put in a lovely cross for Vokes to score against Spain.

Is a bit lightweight but I think it's a lot to do with his age, he will bulk up.

Closest player comparison I can make is probably Januzaj, but he seems to be a bit more direct with better intensity.

Maybe I can clear things up a bit. When he joined us it was very much with an eye on the future as Ibe was one of our best players last season and the expectation was he would spend some time adjusting to our system whilst being fourth choice out wide behind Fraser, Ibe and Stanislas.

However, in our final preseason friendly we took Marseille to the cleaners 5-2 and so Howe stuck with that team to start the next match which included Brooks. He absolutely took his chance player right wing, making an impact right from the first game of the season. As an aside, this seemed to shatter Ibe's confidence and when he's played he's looked more like the terrible first season player rather than the excellent one he was last year.

His stats may not match up to Fraser but remember this is his first half season in the PL compared to Fraser's fourth.

Although he isn't naturally a wide player, in our system that was the only slot open to him and he took it. However, when there have been injuries up front Howe has been tinkering with the formation a little with a single striker leading the line with Fraser, Brooks and Stanislas in behind. They do swap around who is where but generally when he's played in the centre of that formation Brooks has been utterly outstanding. He's been great out wide but central is definitely his best position, I'm just not sure he'll get that opportunity too much when everyone is fit. Hard one for the manager.

Someone above was very astute when they said he glides around the pitch, that's the perfect description. Really clever with the ball at his feet and spots those passes only certain types of player can see and, more importantly, has the ability to deliver on them. However, not watching all our matches like I do what you probably haven't noticed is that unlike a lot of creative players he doesn't shirk on his defensive duty. In fact, there's times when he's maniacal about it. Watching him steaming after players and putting in challenges to stop a breakaway is a joy to see when you know that isn't his main role in the team. Don't let his size fool you, he has terrier-like qualities to him as well.

Carry on like he is and he will 100% end up with one of the top six clubs. However, he's going to cost a lot. Whoever scoffed at us getting £50 million for him was right, just in the wrong direction as it's going to cost a lot more than that. Having said that, he isn't there yet and his progress could stall or he could pick up an injury like Lewis Cook. It's worth noting that he missed a good chunk of last season with glandular fever so has already dealt with one setback. Avoid problems and keep the current trajectory going and someone will get him, it's just going burn their cheque book badly to do so.

The times I've watched him he looks very intelligent with the ball. Defo one to keep an eye on for the future. I hope he stays another season or 2 with Bournemouth where he'll get minutes.

Reckon you'll get a lot more than 50 million? Not too sure about that one.
