David Beckham, the most unlikely return in history?

I would have loved him back but given the ridiculous nature of our over reliance on players that aren't in their prime any more it's the last bloody thing we need.

I hope he comes purely so Fergie can, when we're chasing a win, stand on the touch line with Giggs, Scholes and Becks waiting to come on. Worth it for that alone.

Probably been mentioned but im not going to read the whole thread now but:

Bring him back as a coach to teach our wingers how to cross.

He's 37, younger than Scholes & Giggs and he has always been fitter than both. He delivery/passing is still second to none. Those who think he wouldn't be a good signing the likes of QPR are absolutely clueless.
always fitter than Giggs? Really?

He's still a player, great passer of the ball that never ever relied on his pace anyway. He just doesn't give 90 mins like he used to. Could still certainly do a job for someone. I have no idea why many on here think Scholes and Giggs can do it at United and that Becks who's the youngest of the 3 and was always the fittest of the 3 isn't good enough for the league anymore.

Well, I have free tickets to all Galaxy home games. I watch Beckham play often.

He shouldn't be playing. He's nearly immobile. All he can do is kick now. If he was in the prem he'd be embarrassed by the pace.

He shouldn't be playing football anymore.

Am 100% serious.

You dont think he'd be a good signing for the likes of QPR?

Nah. I think the PL is simply way too fast for him. Way too fast. He has been lolling about in tick tack land and then whatever they do in Los Angeles - point being, he may still have the skills and technique he was once famed for, but I just can't see how he'd survive the pace and intensity of the PL.

We saw that in his final games for England, when he only came on for final 20 minute cameos and even then, was off the pace and could not properly get into the game.

I'm sure had he stayed in the PL, he'd be like Giggs or Scholes but all that time out of the PL will mean he has lost that physical edge you need to succeed in the PL.

Yeah, can see the French or Italian leagues being a potential option, given the slower pace the game is played at.

That would be fun hey? Those were the days.

Maybe he can be a kicker in rugby?

Beckham's extraordinary fitness levels have always been highly spoken of from those within the game.

This excerpt was taken from an article written about Beckham circa. 2001:

McClaren recalls one incident that illustrates Beckham's phenomenal fitness, even when he's out of training. 'I remember a year ago, giving him a rest of a week, 10 days, when we were rotating the squad just after Christmas. The day he returned to training was the fitness test day. He had had 10 days of doing practically nothing, as he admitted, which was what we wanted. He came and did the "bleep" test and we had to tell him to stop because he was the only one left standing and he would have kept running and running.'

The 'bleep' test is a commonly used fitness gauge in which players run over a set distance, wait for the bleep, then run back. The distance between bleeps becomes gradually shorter. Once a player can't reach the other side before the bleep goes, he is out. As McClaren says, hardly anyone beats Beckham.

High-energy Beckham

Less injured in the early years

The early injuries Giggs got helped further his career. He's probably been fitter than Beckham for the past few years (although I am not sure right now).

Bring him back as a player, coach with a view towards managing one of the youth sides. I'm sure the likes of Clevs and Powell would relish the chance to train and play along side him in the short term.

He's too 'Hollywood' to coach. Reckon he'll end up at PSG or something for a year or so and then do the celebrity lifestyle full-time afterwards.

He seems to be far less celebrity now than in 2002. If Fergie is audacious enough to keep playing Giggs and Scholes in the present, who's to say he wouldn't allow Becks back for a few months, even if only to train with the squad.

Train only, maybe. But beyond that, I don't think he himself would be interested in coaching. As I said he seems far more attuned to his showbiz lifestyle than coaching once his playing days come to a close. I can't even imagine Becks standing in the rain at Moss Lane coaching our youth team or any youth team for that matter.

If he stays in football, it would probably be like a Zidane-esque role at some club or as he himself has said that he would prefer to own a club.

If he hadn't have left back in 2003 (by actually wearing the trousers in his house) He could possibly still be here growing old with Giggsy and Scholesy.

If he meet another woman instead of posh, he would have been a better player as there would have been more concentration on the Football instead of the celebrity life.

And we'd line up at Norwich with all three of them.

Brilliant by SkySports.com for transfer muppets: a link to a story called 'Ferguson targets Beckham move', and when you open the page, it's 'Perth Glory coach Ian Ferguson targets phenomenal David Beckham transfer'.

If Fergie wanted him back at United, surely we would have looked to take him on loan rather than AC Milan in years gone by.

Also, I suspect the episode with the G&G scarf probably ended any chance of him returning.
