Darwin Núñez / signs for Liverpool

Not bothered what other clubs do. Focus is purely on United and how they manage the transfer windows.

5million bonus after 10 games seems a bit silly. It'll be done in 6 weeks.
Maybe 10 games means he should be in the starting xi of 10 games as opposed to coming on as a sub. That still wouldn't make sense though.

That’s a lot of money for a player who’s had one good season.

This.

A bit of a plodder too.

But it does seem he fits their pressing system.

100m though..

You got to be wondering what the current players are thinking in terms of their pay packages etc.

Why is the club willing to spend 100m on a new player but not renew my contract to what is on par with other top players?

salah and mane are gone. Well at least one of them will be leaving this summer.

Go in, talk, shake hands, done. A week total. No thinking about, no exploring, no considering, no drama. Meanwhile...
...Journalists tweet about united because that gives them the most clicks. Most doesn't even have to be true but guaranteed to generate interest.

Keeping up with the quadruple theme of this season, it’s inevitable that Nunez will do well and become an immense, absolutely huge talent with the scouse.

How do you know they haven’t been in talks for weeks before any journalists picked up on it? You only hear about these deals when journalists start reporting on them and the journalists only find out when the parties involved decide to give them the information.

I expect to see Liverpool finalising this tomorrow or Tuesday. I guess one good think is they surely won't be able to afford anyone else afterwards (not that they exactly need anything else). I suppose he will play as one of three up top instead of Mane - if not he might regret going there as, without that, he won't get as much game time as he would with us

I'm not convinced you know how journalism works...

When they signed Fernando Torres I was gutted as I was convinced he would be brilliant for them, he'd had several excellent seasons in a top league behind him and had shown his quality at international level. Apart from that, just from watching him play you could see he was quality. This Nunez guy is nothing like that. He has had one good season in portugal, hasn't shown much at international level (2 goals in 11 appearances), and when you watch him play he looks very raw indeed. The only reason to believe that this is a good deal for such a high fee seems to be the assumption that Klopp and his scouts must have seen something that the rest of us haven't. Even uruguayan fans on here that speak about him don't seem to rate him.

Journalists aren’t in a room or listening into phone calls when two clubs a negotiating. They get their information from sources close to the clubs or players involved, someone has to give them the info it doesn’t just magically appear. Only once they get the information that is when you hear about the story. So if everyone privy to something happening keeps quiet they’ll obviously not know about any potential transfer.

Calling this lad a generational talent on what we’ve seen so far is mental. He might be a huge success, but nothing I’ve seen makes me think he’s a sure thing.
Yeah, the comparisons to Haaland aren't based on anything other than people panicking and overreacting to be honest.

I hope Mane ends up staying another year and leaves on a free along with Firmino and Salah.

Maybe just a way of deferring some of the payment from Liverpool 's POV but not that long from Benfica's?

Didn't really actively follow this thread or this player, I usually just jump on whatever badwagon muppets are on, and while I have no idea if this player can cut it or not, I have not the confidence some have of how bad they think he will be, those are takes that come back to bite in the arse.

I’m glad we’re not spending big on him. It’s been a stupid habit in the past we buy some striker to offset our weaknesses in other areas, arguably starting when we bought RVP.

It would be interesting to see how the narrative may have changed on him as I remember reading a week or so back a bunch of Liverpool fans crowing how Utd were buying a Hispanic Lukaku or something to that effect, so I guarantee those same people will be busy down the local Dunelm buying bedsheets to put ‘He came from Benfica to eat from Shankly’s sphincter YAWN’ on them

Phenomenal amount of money.

Liverpool usually do their homework but based on what he’s done to date this does seem like an over spend.
That’s the way football is going when you’ve got City and Chelsea dropping 100 million each on Grealish and Lukaku. We’re guilty of contributing towards that as well when we spent 75 million on Van Dijk. Insane money at the time.

I think Nunez makes more sense for us considering we’re losing a key player like Mane and generally need to refresh the front line. For United you’d probably be better off spending your budget on other areas. Midfield has been an issue for you for a while now.

This is why I wonder why so many fans here seem to be annoyed that he's going to you. If he came to us he would get zero service.
