Atlético is a Mendes club so 100% Atlético is the interest is real

Not sure about that. We've always had a pretty good relationship with Mendes. De Gea, Ronaldo and in the past the likes of Mourinho, Bebe (!), and Falcao were all his guys. If we're willing to stump up the cash I don't see that Mendes would stand in our way. Atletico also have loads of forwards anyway, would seem an odd move.

They lost Suarez and Griezman is washed.

They only have Felix who is inconsistent and injury prone and correrá who is hardly prolific. I can see Darwin going their for sure.

I like Correa. They've also got Matheus Cunha and Llorente can play there too.

The thing is atlético has always been known for having a prolific striker, at the moment they don’t have a player who can hit 30 goals a season let alone 20.

Darwin fits the atlético mentality rugid passionate South American player.

True. Not saying it won't happen, just that it's not obvious for him or them and we'd have a good chance if we want him I think.

To everyone thinking foreign clubs are bigger favorites for his signature

That tweet from Di Marzio...

Guess a number between 1 and 3... I'll give you a hint, it's not 1 or 3

From what I’ve read (not seen much of the player in all honesty) he seems to be a good finisher but his all-round game is average to poor? doesn't sound like the type of attacker I’d be scrambling to sign for the PL.

I was initially sold on him, but not so much anymore. Especially for the fee Benfica are asking. I wish we'd go for Lautaro Martinez instead, but it seems Inter aren't willing to sell him.

51 million is not bad for him.

It makes so much sense to sign a potential world class player like Nunez or Nkunku - so of course we wont :)
All players appear potential world class material until they play in a big league.

Nkuku is POTY in Bundesliga though so that's a legitimately huge deal even if it's very kind to attackers.

....and what exactly has changed your mind? £50M is the new £30M so I see no issue here with the fee. Why do we not want one of Europe's hottest striking prospects, who many are calling is 2nd behind Haaland?

Guarantee posters who say things like this (Fee being a factor as to why not interested) and then they'll go and sign for a team like a Liverpool or a Chelsea and then start banging the goals in and then bitch and moan as to why United didn't sign them and how inept we are.

Strange coming from a forum that screamed at the top of their lungs "JUST PAY THE FEE!" for a player like Sancho and then a large portion of those posters who screamed "JUST PAY THE FEE" are claiming he's a waste of money and why did we pay so much for him yadda yadda yadda.

Sounds like the kind of signing we wish we'd made in a couple of years time when he's smashing it.

How many assumptions can one fit in one post?

For 50M, sure, go ahead. But the reported price is upwards of 70M-80M. Far too steep for an unproven striker with somewhat questionable stats. Especially when we need to rebuild so much of the squad.

The forum doesn't represent me and I don't represent the forum. Isn't Sancho exactly a reason not to just pay the fee? And I definitely disagree with his reported salary.

No it's not. The Sun are reporting it as £ when it's €. But regardless it's still well below the 70M-80M

I also said posters LIKE you. Not you specifically.

I've never understood why fans give so much of a feck to a players salary anyway. Why does it even matter?

So that's £50m and confirmed by Ornstein. Which is a pretty fair price for him and the current striker market.

If we're selling Dean Henderson for 40m, 50m for Nunez is a fecking bargain.

Because there's a wage structure to respect at the club. Thought thats obvious.

Why?

I'd prefer a centre forward and an actual DM tbh.

True. But I’d rather have quality over risk.

We are getting a DM and a forward anyway. I just think Nunez is more risk than quality. We could probably get cheaper for the same impact.

32 goals in 38 games I think it was he scored this year. I'm not saying he'd be putting up those kinds of numbers in the Prem but you won't find many strikers doing that in a relatively big league that are available cheaper I don't think.

Edit: 34 in 39 if you include the league cup.

You constantly make these weird blanket statements just to get all angry and pretend to be above it all, it's bizarre.

Comparing people wanting Sancho to this lad, two very different situations, but you obviously know that.

I have a feeling we won't get Nunez. Don't know why, it's just a gut feeling he'll go elsewhere. Have to admit, I have no idea if he is the answer to our striker problem. Part of me would like him to go somewhere from where we could get a better bet - so come on Daniel Levy get your chequebook out :):):nono:

People have been brainwashed into thinking he cant control or pass the ball, but haven't actually watched a minute of him live.

The stat generation of football fans. Pass completion > ball in the back of the net apparently.

If you watch him, you can clearly see that the real reason for his poor ball retention stats is that he's just an incredibly direct attacker.

Agreed with that - which is why stats need to be used in context of real world footage.

If a striker like Firmino is dropping off into midfield and playing 5 yard passes to keep the ball moving his stats will look great.

He doesn't score 30 goals a season though.

It’s not a ying or a yang. Being direct is great but we need someone who can bring others into play and contribute on the team play in the final third other than just finishing.

Do we? we have 9 other players for that.

What we need is a better team structure and chemistry to actually retain the ball and create chances better.

If we are counter attacking he is a great outball that carries the ball well, if we are in possession he's a big threat in the box.

We have players like Bruno and Sancho + whoever else ETH brings into the side to be the creators.

Nunez is perfectly capable of holding the ball up and laying it off, i'm sure of that.

I like his energy, drive, engine, guts and determination.
With a strong collective and consistent top service to feed him. And if he develop, work and rise the level of finish, sharp and clinical.

In the others words. He has the mentality. The basic football skills. You can always improve. To be more conistent with the ball.
