Darwin Núñez | Liverpool player | Fighter

I don't think you've seen Forlan play consistently
Forlan was milles better techically speaking. Nunez decision making is poor, Klopp can improve him but from Uruguayan standards he will never be on the same level as Forlan, Cavani or Suarez.

Likening Nunez to Forlan should see you imprisoned for felony or at least a misdemeanour.

Yeah Forlan was a great player. Unless he specifically means the version that flopped at United then okay but I would say even that version was better than what we’re seeing from Nunez.

The last chance was ridiculous. Didn't know what to do then said feck it and just hit the ball.

At United as far as I can remember he did struggled to score goals, at least in his first season, but he still scored a couple of goals after and he was a clever player but at that time beside Van Nistelrooy they still had Ole, and next season came Saha and Cristiano.

Sensation I had was that he wasn't a classical striker, more a mobile forward, but with a much cleaner technique than Nunez. His best time was later at Atletico Madrid.

I don't understand why he struggles so much to hit the target from good positions
It is what is going on between his thought process and his execution and his lack of technical ability.
He has a few goals and assists but he is a strong contender to be the biggest waste of money in the Premier League this season.

Yep, you could tell Forlan was a very good player who just struggled to score initially and then lost confidence. He started to look very good before we sold him. One of the few times I thought SAF made a bad decision at the time and was subsequently proven right. Generally when I thought the great man got it wrong, I proved to be way off the mark!

The problem with the inflated striker market in a nutshell… there is literally no one available that is actually worth huge money right now, which paradoxically means everyone’s gonna end up panic paying that for the scraps.

Exactly, yet you have idiots here willing to spunk 100m at any half decent striker (that’s flawed) because of how badly people want a “proper 9”

There aren’t any good options because there aren’t, hence why ETH would rather try and develop Gakpo for half of the price

Anyways, anyone that defends Núñez by pointing to his numbers doesn’t know football, I’m sorry. “Oh but he gets into dangerous positions, he’s lively” yeah so did Luis Suarez for Liverpool yet he’d have 25 already this season and a hat trick today given how many inexcusable misses this donkey has had already. He lacks composure and basic technique, those aren’t things you suddenly gain with experience.

Can't help but feel bad for him - not for them of course. Not like anyone of us would turn down a big career move even though we know we probably aren't at the required level for that stage. His confidence must be shattered.

I think he's better than this tbh, but never as good to warrant how much was paid or how much he was fawned over by some of our fans even.

He's an idiot character wise too, why would you feel sorry for him? He is excellent fit for Liverpool in that sense.

Dross.

Scoring some goals won't change that fact either. He's a #9 for Liverpool, of course he will score goals.

He has the intensity, movement and pace to bully the shit out of any defense, but luckily still misses the final pieces of his puzzle. Unfortunately I think he's going to score a lot of goals the next few months.

Some hilariously bad finishes yesterday. Unsustainably bad actually.

You can see he plays better on instinct. Anything he has to do without thinking he can manage (the assist) but when it comes to finishing, if he has time to think about it he caves and just swings at it.

That last miss at 3-2 is ridiculous for a top level striker.

If one day he gets some composure then he could become lethal with his speed and work rate, but lets hope that never happens.

I sort of see your point, but if you look at his four chances in the video above, he has plenty of time in two of them, but in the other two he has to react instinctively. You could also argue, that on his assist he had a lot of time to mess it up, but ended up picking the right option and executing it well.

We make fun of him and rightly so, but here we have a bunch of people who defend and think Fred, McT and AWB are good players when they also lack basic technical abiltiy.

Nunez has all the good movements of a striker, he just doesn't have those technical qualities needed to be really prolific, if he did he'd scored 40 goals a season. Instead he'll probably end up in the 15-20 bracket, which is alright but not what you want or expect for 100m.

Think what stands out is not the fact that he's not prolific, it's that he seems to miss important chances in big matches when his team really needs him. Similar to Lukaku in that sense.

Lukaku for all his flaws atleast scored goals. This guy is a joke

Aye he so poor. Funny watching carragher still clinging trying to hype him like he a serious striker.

His movement is good I'd give him that.

The confidence bound to be draining from him. Sometimes hard to get that back

Every time I say a player is shit, they will inevitably turn into prime Schmeichel/Maldini/Zidane/Messi the next time they play United

So i'll just say that some people might call him a fancy Andy Carroll. But not me. I think he's mint

He's averaging a goal every 115 mins so it's not unreasonable to think he'll end up with 25+ goals this season. Thank goodness his finishing is poor or we'd be looking at another Haaland.

He has been shit but a bit like Lukaku I could see him having seasons where he scores a decent amount. Still his technical ability is limited so he'll be inconsistent like Lukaku.
