Darwin Núñez | Liverpool player | Fighter

Isnt this a bannable offense? Defending Liverpool players over Manchester United players, as a MUFC fan, should warrant public paddlin.
Shitting on United became the 'done' or popular thing on here for a while. Times be a changing... time we took some pride back.

No, he was missing sitters on a daily basis for Benfica too.
Klopp got the maximum out of Robertson, Arnold, Milner etc. so I would be a bit more patient before calling him a flop.

He looks extremely clumsy and uncomfortable on the ball, but he's still a kid. Let's hope it stays that way and he'll be remembered as a failed transfer / anfield donkey but the "told you so" comments in here are quite premature.

Kind of funny that the same posters calling him a failure are defending the Antony signing because it's been only 3 games.
Both have shown nothing so far, only time will tell which of them have been worth the money.

Antony is an absolute god compared to Nunez, come on now.

The experiment is delightful. Long may klopp stick with the man. I hope the media keep reminding them the 100mil spent on him. I hated every moment they brought it up for pogba and all. It pits unnecessary pressure that you can't play him and you can't drop him. Delightful.

Hasn't he played something like 259 mins (less than 3 games). How have people seen so much of him? I have barely watched him play
To a large degree, it is a reaction against Liverpool fans, Liverpool-dominated media and Sky who:
1. Glorified his performance in the community shield where he hit a header way off-target and struck a defender's arm to get a lucky penalty. They all said he changed the game when he came on, but actually City equalized after he had come on. The game only changed when de Bruyne got taken off a full 14 minutes after his introduction.
2. Glorified his deflected goal against Fulham which was probably not even on target and should have been given as an own-goal.
3. Completely ignore his lack of basic ball control and passing ability. You can't have such a no.9 in the modern game anymore unless you are Haaland who will finish half chances. Nunez can't finish sitters.
4. Are happy to pile on Martinez in spite of consecutive man of the match performances. That slimy, whiny slug Carragher had the temerity to say that even though Martinez had not been found out beause of his height yet, it was INEVITABLE for it to happen. But not a peep yet from him about Nunez. And none from Stegosaurus Sounnes either.

So, yes, it is as much an emotional evaluation of Nunez as it is an objective one here on the Caf, but he is not in any way a 100m player. 25m more like. Origi was better.

There are plenty of players that were probably overpayments; Martial, Antony, Sancho, Havertz, Grealish etc

The difference is that these guys are clearly good players. Whether they were worth what was paid is questionable but none of them struggle with the basics.

Nunez genuinely wouldn't stand out as a professional footballer in a local 5 a side team. He literally cannot control a football, can't pass, has no hold up play and his finishing is erratic. He is quick and makes decent runs in behind but in a 5 a side environment, there is no space to run into behind so half decent bricklayers and plumbers with a first touch would outshine him. Not even joking.

I'm not denying he's terrible. All I'm saying is, 80m these days is the price you pay to gamble on potential players. It's the today's equivalent of 11m paid for Heskey in 2000 or 35m for Caroll in 2011. 80m doesn't stand out any more.

I did find it bizarre at the time when certain moments were being glorified by Liverpool fans and pundits.

His header which was miles off in the community shield and was so misdirected that it hit the defenders hand which even the defender wasn’t expecting to come anywhere near him. But apparently Nunez did well to win the penalty.

The strangest glorification was his poorly executed back flick goal against Fulham. He literally messed it up and the defender kicked it back on to him for it to go in off the back of Nunez. Liverpool fans celebrated it as a moment of genius. Let’s not forget his poor controlled “assist” for Salah in the same game.

Yes, it’s early day and blah blah….but he’s looked delightfully shocking so far.

We’ll back on those days 11m in 2000 and 35m in 2011 were sizable fees. BTW both of these players are comparable to Donkey Núñez in quality (or lack of it).

Hopefully Nunez fails and this is the start of their decline. Micheal Edwards also has retired so it's gonna take some effect on their transfer dealings too.

I am really glad we didn’t get him. I would have ended up instantly disliking him like I did Lukaku and then have had to deal with the annoying drawn out phase of waiting for him to leave. Good thing he’s over at that lot.
Same for that reason aside from his just looking shite so far. I hate that body language of "gee the crowd up if you miss an easy chance" something him and Lukaku both do

Are Man Utd fans the biggest weirdos on fan forums?

Your avg Joe treats football with the tribal spirit that makes it special - defend own players, take the piss out of rival clubs and players.

Utd fans - enter a thread about a rival player who's been utterly wank and defend him by shitting on your own player.
But when someone made a thread about how badly United had been spending they flocked and shitting on their own club. One thing that everyone and their grandma knows about.

Wait, has Antony been that bad? Strangely I've yet to see him play as for one reason or another I missed the games against Arsenal, sociedad and sheriff

I don’t know which sport do you watch. He’s better than all of them. Peak Cavani will be his minimum ceiling.

 this is such a June 2022 post. I thought it was a RAWK post when I saw people quoting it! But it was actually from here?! Minimum ceiling  the technically excellent Cavani comparison  amazing.

This just an excuse to wipe off the bad games he's had. Antony is an amateur football player, even now I'm not scared of his aura.

No, he hasn’t. It’s a ridiculous comparison to make.

Because he has looked shite and has played in such a low amount of games for his age that he doesn’t have any benefit of the doubt. He scored over half of his career goals in one season last year.
There’s not one metric that didn’t scream red flags to the point not seeing how shit he was is on the same scale of not seeing how good a young Messi was. It’s that obvious.
fair enough.

most £80m players flop or disappoint

You need to put some respect on Heskey’s name. He was actually a good player before he became a meme in latter parts of his career.

Of course he wasn't that bad, he was pretty decent, doing his job, making good passes etc, but this is Caf, so by him being a winger, they expected him to constantly dribble past defences left and right, so by not doing that he is considered a flop already.

Can't compare this donkey to Antony ffs, Antony actually looks like a footballer compared.

Footballing ability wise, he looks on the level of Lukaku but just a bit fitter and with more fight. If this was Pokemon, he would probably be an evolution and named Nukaku.

We really need to stop with these "another footballer I can think of + a couple of things" comparisons. He's not remotely like Lukaku, in any other way than that they're both physically strong strikers who score a lot of goals. When did you see Lukaku play with the kind of aggressiveness and explosiveness in the box that Nunez does? It's like the "Haaland = a bigger, faster Alan Shearer" nonsense. They're completely different players.

Darwin also doesn’t score anywhere near as many goals as Lukaku

Heskey’s time at Leicester is criminally underrated. There was a very good reason he was up front for England at the time and Liverpool spent so much on him.

Yeah he was pretty good for about 8-9 years of his career. Turned into a meme towards the end of his career, and it seems like the meme phase of his career left a lasting impression.

This is not going to age well I think.

From what I've seen of Nunez at Liverpool, I think there's at least as much hyperbole among his detractors as there is among those who are hyping him. It's too early to be definitive one way or another, but to me he looked pretty impressive against Fulham and I think it's perfectly accurate to say he changed the game when he came on in the CS. All the BS against Martinez has nothing to do with this, and personally I couldn't give rat's ass about what Graeme Souness thinks about anything.

Christ. Some of these tweeters are doing themselves no favours.

I too was impressed with the way he missed so many chances to score and to get lucky with a deflection.
Really showed what was to come!

Yes, the 2 players came from average leagues for too much money. Time will tell if they flop or not.
I’m sure there’s an Antony these here somewhere for you to bring him up in.
Doesn’t matter a feck if Darwin was 80m or 20m, he’s shite. Shite compared to the transfer fee, shite in isolation.
Shite

Imagine supporting a club, and not even knowing the fecking players names.
You sound like a child, these things happen with auto-correct. Imagine getting your panties in a bunch every time you see something misspelt especially when you know what it's referred to.

How do you think he got all those chances? But never mind. You've made your mind up, after a handful of games. Your choice. We'll see.

In all honesty, I haven't been impressed with what I have seen so far.
