Darwin Núñez | Liverpool player | Fighter

RAWK have got us covered:

that’s quite the haul. All from tonight?

my doubts about this guy have been nurtured by his performance tonight. Had a nice moment with that cross that was tipped behind Diaz, but other than that he just looks out of place.

From tonight and a couple after his last game.

He doesn't seem to fit right in the team, he might be a decent player in 6 months after bedding in but I don't think he'll ever be a 20 goals a season striker.

That's a low blow. :(

Nunez is young and Klopp really is a magician so, who knows, if there's anyone to get a tune out of him it's Klopp. But I'm watching his basic football, the touch, the body position, the release of the ball and mainly the brains of what's going on around him. It's not looking good, even this early and in a new country.

Worrying that we were in for him as well. He looks like a donkey.
I’ve been saying that! Hopefully it was a pisstake to lure Liverpool into buying him like Pep and City have done to us with Fred and McGuire.
If Nunez was recommended as a worthwhile signing by a club scout he should lose his job is he hadn’t already.

we signed Maguire based on great performances for Leicester, won the title and played good for England. I thought it was a good signing, just not worked out, no idea why though

your recruitment has been insane for the last few years so surely you can’t be writing him off this soon? I think the mane loss, Salah got his contract and downed tools is affecting you more than anticipated.

I’m all for rivalry but I honestly hope he works out for you for his sake more than yours . A lot of pressure for a young guy to handle
The what now? We bought Maguire because he was being crazy overrated by English media.

He wasn't actually that bad tonight. Missed a good chance but also created two dangerous ones and was quite involved.
Don't get me wrong, I don't think he is any good or ever will be, but he wasn't any worse than Jota/Firmino today.

It’s weird that he drifts wide so much, because he looks the opposite of nimble out there. Maybe it’s just to get involved a bit or due to Liverpools system, but I would think he should just stay central to occupy the CBs and try to get on the end of crosses.

Spoke to a Liverpool fan who is the president of the Liverpool fan club here and he convinced me that Nunez always needs a season to heat up so he will be tearing it up next season. So they are willing to wait, probably.

Hah this is based on him being literally the worst player in Portugal two seasons ago and then having a good year last year as Benfica meekly finished 3rd. "Always" seems a bit strong all things considered.

Going to read the RAWK is always nice when Liverpool are struggling. A surprising amount of :copium: being tossed around there, a lot of posers being happy with "the brief cameo" and overall effort minus the sitter he missed.

I mean, fair play, he might become a servicable squad member, but that price tag is not squad member price, that is contender striker prices. This could be one of the worst financial investments Liverpool have ever done. This season will be interesting.

President of Liverpool FC Rectum? That is a fitting place.

I think the biggest problem I see for Liverpool is I just don’t think it’s possible to have a team where Nunez and Salah are both successful. I said it at the start of the season and still feel the same.

There’s only room for one of them in this team. If you try to shoehorn both in, then they both suffer. Salah will not be anywhere near his previous best if he’s playing with Nunez.

It's a very expensive punt on one season of good form. So far, it's looking just as stupid a decision as many of us thought it could be. It's very early days, but he's so poor at the very basics.

I'm glad my opinion based on his time in Portugal aligns with this dude who has been following him for way longer. Still utterly baffled as to why Liverpool would pay that much for him.

Your opinion from watching him is the hill I'm willing to die on.

Liverpool bought Mane after he had a great game against them with Southampton, so it looks like they tried to repeat the trick after Nunez's performance against them last season but they may just have got swindled.

We did the same thing with Robertson when he had a good game against us at Hull, and Minamino as well.

The eye tests and scouting reports/his numbers all suggested this even before we signed him. Wondering what exactly the plan was supposed to be here.

Unless he delivers 20-25 a season, the rest of his game is far too much of a hinderance to justify.

I will ask this again: what have Sounnes and Carragher said about him yet? Nothing? Still obsessed only with our butcher, Martinez?

100m down the drain.

He’s never won the Prem. He was busy getting teams relegated.
Done it 4 times in his career. I doubt there's a worse player playing in the Prem than him. And nope, this ain't hyperbole. Just facts!

The Brexit summer window has to be the WORST in our history including the Owen, Obertan & Valencia one.

More RAWK:

Why is there over 2 pages of analysis of a player who came on for half an hour and has yet to get his feet under the table? Making judgements right now is utter nonsense. In a team struggling for form, and a player who has had a disjointed start due to being suspended, its nonsense to judge him right now. Many of you are going to look like absolute bells in a few months time.

I realise this lad is very raw, but I find it hard to be too critical of him when he's largely being fed crap being asked to spin it into magic.

Nunez is going to be fine. He is not quite ready and he needs time … just like Andy Robertson and Fabinho before him. I would put him on the bench behind Diogo and Bobby at least until after the World Cup

Maybe Nunez will come good but right now his start is pretty disappointing for 80 mil, and the signs aren't really pointing towards a 40 goal a season Mane, Salah, or Suarez world class player. Mane, Salah, or Suarez would have buried that chance he had today. Hopefully he'll come good anyway.

Looked good I thought. Snatched at a decent chance but caused them problems. Feels to me like he's more of an ox/fab/robbo and we will probably see the best of him after the world cup.

The chance he had was not easy as it was slightly behind him. Apart from that he did well , he’s a striker and as such would benefit from the team creating chances for him which isn’t really happening much yet, he’s trying to do everything himself. He will be a fine player when he and the team get used to each other.

He needs a bit of time to adapt. I think the problem we have with him is that we just need to figure out the best way to use him.
Might also be the language barrier as well, once he’s more settled then things will click in place for him.

The best way to use him is off the bench and hoping he takes the chances that fall his way. The 80m Origi with worse finishing. He doesn't fit as a starter in this current incarnation of Klopp's football.

Ever the optimist but seems like a similar situation to Thiago when he first signed for me. Shown flashes of what he offers - even when the attacking build up is stuttering he's getting himself into great positions for chances - but has come into a dysfunctional side and will need at least half a season to adapt. People will write him off because of his price-tag (like Thiago was written off because of his age) but can't really judge until February/March at the earliest.

You'd have thought, given his performances last season, that the UCL would have been a good competition for him to settle in.

It's early, but he looks completely off the pace with his first touch and general play. Also, his finishing is pretty dreadful thus far. Reckon he's going to be a player who will score a fair few, but require an insane number of chances to get to those numbers.

Also a similar situation to Keita.

Doesn’t make sense when you signed him off one season, he hasn’t got the credit in the bank for a wait and see if he adapts approach. We can only judge him in what we see and what we’re seeing is shit
