Darts

Everyone is dart crazy. We're having a dart competition at work next week now.
Is your boss British or Dutch or something, bc I never heard of anyone here actively talk about darts? I only know a bit bc of my Dutch relatives and even then my knowledge doesn't extend beyond the days of Barney/Raymond van Barneveld.

Funny you mention this, my OH’s family are from Austria and have never seen darts before Littler. Now? They have 5 dartboards in 5 different homes and are playing it within their respective families or setting up nights where friends come over and they play. Quite surreal, but entertaining nonetheless.

They think everyone from UK can play darts because they see all these obese, normal people hailed as sportsmen  They also have me mistaken for someone who can pull out a 9 dart game any time I want because I played a little when young, and of course have been imbued with power of the dart because of my passport.
Beautiful story  Littler is truly the greatest English soft power asset in the last decade. His cultural impact is already immense

He's British. It's a thing bank home too but that's mainly because we were a British colony. We have a fooseball table at work too. Our two founders are huge football fans. One supports Chelsea and one supports Liverpool. Our lunch room is divided into a red section and a blue section. I never sit on the Liverpool side.

Love it. So the dart board is in my boss's office and he is English. This explains a lot. They have daily games but I'm not in the main office area where this all goes down. My office is in another wing away far away from everyone(on purpose) so I'm not able to participate in these daily dart shenanigans. I have to buy a dart board for home so I can get some practice. My boss has these expensive darts that he purchased and my first time playing I used them and hit a bullseye right off the bat. I might invest in a set for the competition because it seems like the quality of the darts you use makes a big difference.
Seems to be making a comeback as a recreational hobby in the UK, and has exploded elsewhere. Littler has certainly served as an inspiration for people new to darts, and I think the prize money these days is going entice people who are just messing about for now to see how far they can go.

Don't know what kind of accessibility to good equipment you guys would have in NY/ The States, but yeah if you're even halfway serious about darts over here, you'll have your own set that are bespoke (due to how you put the components together) and feel the best to you. Any good dart stockist will have a selection of weights, metals, flights, soft and hard tips. None of that might mean anything to you, but if you do have a darts shop in your vicinity, where you get to pick up numerous darts and throw them, you'll immediately get a feel for what you have an affinity for, and you will find that your aim improves when the dart feels right to you. A good shop will also look at your form and tell you what kind of thrower you are, which will affect the weight of dart you need. We have shops like this: https://www.dartscorner.co.uk/ over here. I'm gonna guess you have something over there.

Reason I'm telling you this is because once you feel the right dart, you'll get more competitive with yourself, and as soon as that happens, you'll get more competitive with others, which is fun. Throwing darts and them actually hitting where you aimed is a big leap, and then making the jump up to actually being able to throw trebles and doubles or see out a game is another leap still. It's quite addictive once you get the hang of it, especially if you have opponents who are around your level or a bit better.

Rock up at work one day with your own, bespoke darts with a little practice behind you and wipe the floor with 'em!

It really has. He's going to drive the prize money up for everyone as he's bringing more eyes to the game than there's ever been. And winning the World's at 17, that's only going to push it further. I can't imagine what it's like to be introduced to the barmy world of darts as an adult. Darts was always on the TV in the 70's, 80's and 90's over here so it's pretty much intertwined into the psyche for most, but this all being new to you, it must be a fun and mental ride.

That’s someway to admit you look like Steve Bunting and sink 10 a day. ;)

strange how it happens. we’re all podgy darts prodigies and they’re all snow paedos or hitlers.

Thanks I'll look around and see what I can come up with. It's very addictive. I felt the difference right away when I picked up the expensive darts. My aim was more precise and it wasn't all wobbly. My boss has to constantly chase everyone out his office. The wall is also riddled with holes from all the misses.
I'm very competitive I'll let you know how it goes.

Premier league places decided today

Littler
Humphries
MVG
Bunting
Cross

The other 3 players I'd like to see Heta, Dobey and Joyce
More than likely to be Dobey, Price and Aspinall and I honestly don't know about Michael Smith

Isn't the top four fixed and the other four discretionary? Harsh if Bunting doesn't get in as number 5 though.

Heta's good shout and wouldn't be surprised if Dobey's in, but he was pretty shite last year. Joyce would be decent but too low ranked.

Reckon they go Price, Heta, Asp.

Remarkable that Wright's above Smith now. Rankings are so tight lower down, with 12-21 only separated by c£50k.

They usually include major winners from the previous year as well, no? I think one of MDD or Dimi could be in as well to get someone from mainland Europe apart from MVG.

Smith shouldn’t be anywhere near it and Asp had a very average year apart from the Worlds QFs. Heta is good because he might attract a different audience. Shame Anderson won’t be considered.

Littler, Humphries, MVG, Cross
Bunting, Heta, De Decker, Dobey

Decent 8 that, De Decker and Dobey I’m not sure on but no one has stood out really.

I’m surprised asp is in if he’s struggling. Hope he does well.

Also I’m glad price has made it

What did Price the last 12 months do to warrant a place? Genuinely can’t remember.

I like Asp but think he’d have been better off not selected.

Seems a very safe selection, with just Bunting in for Wright.

I'm not a huge fan of this format. Seems to have gotten old quickly with the amount of repetition. It has thrown up some great matches along the way, but by the final each week I feel darted out most of the time.

I know there's significantly more to it, but I think Asp and Smith have walk on songs that the crowd love so there's a huge chance one of them gets in most years as a minimum, although I think Bunting helps to fill that role also. Even if none of them are doing particularly well at the time, if the Premier League continues with this format I'd be surprised to see a campaign without at least one of those three in. However, I do think they need to be doing some big work to determine the best way of expanding this competition for next time. Increasing the player count to 12 or 16 seems like something that has to happen eventually.

It's a solid line-up though, you can see most people having a chance if the Lukes don't stay at the ridiculous level.

While it's only 8 players, I find it difficult to see them putting in players like Searle, Joyce, and Heta at the moment whom I'd love to see involved. Also De Decker, Van Veen etc too who I think either already do or would warrant a spot very soon.

Heta posted on twitter last night saying he appreciated all the love for him (people not happy he wasnt picked) but he doesnt live in the UK and doesnt plan to so he cant participate in it. I love the Premier League. A little bet and a couple beer every Thursday night. Roll on
