Darts

I learnt that Littler is a United fan! Anyway, can’t see anybody beating him, he’s on a different planet to all the rest.

Disagree, I think both Cross and Humphries are perfectly capable of beating him, especially given that he's entering unchartered territority with best-of-eleven in sets tonight. You could say that about his entire tournament to be fair to him, and he hasn't flinched even once so far, but Cross and Humphries are playing some very strong stuff (both in this tournament and earlier on this year).

I see Dolan fans are suggesting that Littler was disrespectful with his antics with the crowd during the match. Have they a point or is it just sour grapes?
I don’t watch a lot of darts but Dolan was awful for the most part.

He's a 16 year old in the QF of a major tournament, what do they expect?

You have seen him play? He’s currently on a different level than the rest and if all the media attention & nerves haven’t effected him so far they won’t over the next 2 days. The guy is clearly not your average 16 year old (or any age for that matter).
Anyway, we’ll soon find out.

I think Dolan was deliberately trying to slow him down, to try and annoy him and make him wait for his throws. It was the opposite of what MVG does where he basically stands on their shoulder while their throwing. Littler was having none of it, reminded me of Ronnie with the snooker, he really is just that good and he knows it. Now, it's just a question of whether or not he lets the occasion or the other players get inside his head and put him off.

Humphries and Cross are very capable, Humphries last night averaged over 100 and Cross was deadly on doubles last game and with a high average also, its not a stretch to say they could win and if they lose I'll be doubtful it would be as one sided as all the other games he has played and if it goes longer than 8 or 9 sets that's uncharted territory for him so let's see either way he has done incredibly well to get here.

Question is do they hot shot him to the PL if he doesn't win, I surmise if he wins he's in regardless could be too much at 16 imo

What I did find disrespectful was someone getting to a QF and have a 3 darts AVG of only 86.something.

I reckon Littler is just a kid still, his playing to the crowd is what the sport needs anyway, not Littler fault Dolan was about 7 billion points behind in that leg.

Normally I’d back Humphries or Cross. However, Littler is just a different level. The only player who can reach Littler’s level is MvG and that’s not happening this WC. Nobody’s beating Littler unless the nerves start to get to him, but I don’t see that happening either.

First time since 2006 all four semi-finalists are English.
Going with a Cross vs Humphries final.

Littler isn’t on a different level to Humphries or Cross. He’s at a similar level so it will be down to who puts it together on the day.

Cross averaged like 103 yesterday and hit 57% on doubles, despite his shaky start. Over 9 sets, that is incredible. I think Littler averaged 102 and hit 49%. I really hope Littler does it, but he’s no cert by any stretch. I love his confidence and just hope his level doesn’t drop from the last few games.

Yeah that'll be interesting, would be nigh on impossible to leave him out if he wins the entire thing but otherwise I'd say let him grow on his own until he's 18, no rush to put him in that position if he doesn't become WC.

Are the first four on the order of merit still automatically in? If not I think this would be a nice one:
MVG
Humphries
Smith
Price
Cross
Dobey
Wade
Bunting

Unlikely they'll give it to the likes of Wade and Bunting though in favor of players like Asp, Clayton, Heta who are all in or near the top 10. Think Snakebite is still a certainty as well as they would like to have one Scotsman in, but wouldn't mind a year without him either.

the stats don’t say the whole story. Littler doesn’t throw for the triple 20, he throws what ever triples are going to give his favorite double from throw one each leg. His back up triple is also unbelievable. Cross is getting his arse kicked tonight and I said before the tournament started that Littler is winning this thing. He’s that good is Littler.

Even if he loses, that’s a cracking call pre tournament. Did you put a bet on?

I don’t bet for religious reasons
Aaah, fair!

On an unrelated note has anyone here ever had dart lessons? I’m so bad but want to get good (after investing in a setup), but can’t seem to improve. I’m having a free remote lesson on Friday so will see.

Look up the dominant eye thing. Mine is the wrong way so of no help to me.

Practice practice practice. Go to a proper darts shop where you can throw different darts ie different weight, barrel shape then it's a question of fine tuning with stems, flights.
This is what I did years ago, the guy who owned the shop was very knowledgable, he knew by the way the dart landed in the board if they were too light /heavy.
Top pros usually use between 18-24g darts, although there are a few exceptions I think Bunting uses 14g.

I played for years at a decent level, don't bother much now,I used 24g Phil Taylor darts for years, eventually going lighter to 22g.Get some that feel comfortable and enjoy!.

I don’t watch a lot of darts but Dolan was awful for the most part.

It was just the usual clickbait from the media like Talkshite, not Dolan fans as Littler had about 99.9% of the support.

It even said Dolan was visibly annoyed about it, when it was just his normal face

I wouldn't be surprised if Cross beats him, but Littler is the favourite. It's staggering watching how good he is, especially at 16 his counting and setting up is ridiculous.

Yep.

Thing is he was hundreds of points up in the leg so had a bit of fun with the crowd. Dolan seemed fine throughout the whole match as he usually is and he was gracious at the end.

His look was just disappointment at how he was playing he couldn't get anything going to challenge him really.

Solid first set from both. Hard to believe Cross can maintain that standard and he still didn’t have much breathing space.

Seems every bit of the 16 year old today.

Needs to get his head in the game.

First time I’ve seen his head go. If he levels it up he’s done very well
