It looks very likely that he will move on.. But the only questions remains is when and where? And why is it taking so long for him to leave?

There is a story today that has him moving to Wigan on loan..

The Daily Star are linking Wigan Athletic with a move to bring Manchester United and Republic of Ireland midfield man Darron Gibson to the DW Stadium on a season long loan deal.

Gibson had a proposed move to Premier League rivals Sunderland fall through, allegedly due to the players personal demands, but with United boss Sir Alex Ferguson making it clear that the 23 year old is surplus to requirements at Old Trafford there would be a possibility of this deal coming off.

Latics boss Roberto Martinez was keen to capture Tom Cleverley for another season but Ferguson wants the England under 21 international to make the step to the United first team squad, so that deal wont happen, Gibson may provide an option for Martinez who wants a competitive midfield to build his team around.

I don't understand why he hasn't moved on yet? Did he not think moving to Sunderland was in his best interests? I know about the Wages issue but I don't think that was it.. Is he holding out for a deal with a better club or one that would me more suited to his style of play? I honestly do not know what might be going through his head as of now..

Is it possible that United are 1st waiting to sign a player before letting him leave? And we seem to be struggling to bring in a replacement for Scholes.. I wouldn't be against the idea of retaining him for another season if we fail to sign another midfield player in this transfer market.. Fletcher's situation looks glum too with his relapse of the virus he caught at the tail end of last season..

P.S I think the other thread should be locked as both O'Shea and Brown have left and clearly the Gibson situation isn't quite clear yet.. So it deserves a thread of its own.. Link: https://www.redcafe.net/f9/sunderland-bid-12m-oshea-gibson-brown-332147/

he should go cleverly can take his place....

The reason he hasn't moved is simply because he's on a bigger contract here than he could dream of getting elsewhere in the PL. Sunderland didn't want to fork out £40k a week for him and I don't see many others taking up that sort of salary any time soon. I wouldn't be surprised if he stayed at United through sheer lack of takers unless he's willing to take a pay cut in order to play more football and get his career going properly.

I'll be gutted if he stays. He's good to have in reserve but not if it risks damaging the development of our more promising young players.

When he goes the wave of spunk that will hit these boards will be of tsunami proportions. Honestly would be quicker just to kill him, apparently he is the cause of all our problems so be easier just to take a 3 million loss and just shoot the fecker!

Wow, I didn'y even know he isn't part of the USA tour. An indication he will move on?

 epic!

Well didn't Niall Quinn say he was choosing between Sunderland and Stoke?

I don't think he earns that much at United, probably £15-£25 grand a week. There were rumors last season that he refused to leave United even on loan so wouldn't be surprised if he still is clinging on to his future at OT. Tbh with all these midfielders gone his chances at playing has probably never been bigger at United.

Gutted? Really?

Yeah as i've just said  .. He's stunting the progress of our younger players.

To be honest he annoys the feck out of me too with his lack of pace, lack of movement off the ball and constant shooting.

Nail on head. He is the most limited player ever to put on the red jersey.

No he isn't. It's not his fault if he gets picked is it? It's not like he's gunna say "No it's alright boss, I know you've asked me to play but I feel you should let someone else have a go."

If the younger players are performing better and deserve to be picked, they will.

I can't get my head around why you'd be gutted. It's such a shit attitude to have.

He has a very good shot. Out of all midfielders he's the best at it I would say. Only for his shooting ability I would keep him.

Plus he has experience on the highest level, scored in the champions league. His passing range isn't that bad either. Wasn't he spreading the ball like Xavi (not my words) in the Carling Cup?

Against what, Crawly town? No, he is not good enough and his so called range of passing is shocking. Can't put at decent ball forward against a decent/good side.

Ok fair point, but he can still shoot and that's a good quality to have, we certainly need that, especially with the likes of Fletcher, Carrick and Anderson in the team.

Utter fecking bull shit. Gibson's range of passing is by no means Scholes-esque but he has a good range of passing on him.

Failure to appreciate such a blindingly obvious fact would tell me you're not quite understanding this football lark.

His ball against Schalke was fantastic. Thought he did really well against Munich. Maybe thats his level, European football...

Gibson is a good player and some of the things spouted about him on this forum are harsh and go beyond the boundary of constructive criticism. I think it's a shame that some people fail to get behind players that have come through our youth system as, for me, they are the lifeblood of the club and represent us. Even if they are not up to the standard required to make a career of playing for United, this is hardly something which deserves the derision that Gibson seems to receive. He has not been in the team out of luck. He has been selected by Ferguson as being deserving of an opportunity in the first team due to his performances in the youth team and reserves. If he has tried his best when given these opportunities then that's all you can ask of him.

It seems clear now that his time with us has come to an end and he will be moving on but I think he will prove himself to be a decent premiership midfielder. I wish him all the best, as I do with all our young players, and will remember some good performances from him and also some memorable goals.

I doubt he'll go to Stoke anyway. He wouldn't get a game. He can't dislodge Glenn Whelan from his Ireland spot, so I don't see how he'll get ahead of him in the pecking order for Stoke. And Whelan isn't even a regular.

Wigan would be a good move though.

If Gibson had any future at Utd he would be in America withthe rest of the team.

If we aren't going to buy any midfielders, we should keep him

Obviously. But sticking with our current midfield is equally as foolish as letting him go without an improvement.

The more i think about it the more i convince myself that SAF is as eager to strengthen the midfield as we are. He simply can't have seen us be outclassed by Barca in the way we were and think that there's any way on earth that one day Darron 'Shooooooooooot!' Gibson may be of use in our rise back to top of the european game.

I am waiting to read from you which other player is more limited than him?

You claimed that he is the most limited player EVER to wear the red shirt. This club is over 100 years old and has not always been in the top division. Currently we are champions of England and have been in 3 Champions League finals in 4 years. Gibson has been a part of the squad for much of this period. He played and scored in a Champions League semi-final this year and has been a key member of the side in successful League Cup campaigns. Is it not a bit obvious that he is not the most limited player ever?
