Throw him in on the weekend. Don't even give a shit anymore, anything would be better than Giggs or Cleverly at the moment. Give him a taste, get that hunger going and see if he can light a fire under these pricks. The fight he's shown to get better, there's seldom few in this squad that deserve to wear the shirt more than him.

:nervous:

Not sure when the contract is up, but honestly I think having him back could provide a boost to the team at the right time. I agree with those arguing that we shouldn't rush him, but as soon as the doc gives the ok, he should be given a chance. Darren Fletcher has exactly what the current team is lacking: drive, motivation, and character. He will show up mentally to the games, and I think his example could make a difference to those around him. I just hope his physical condition will allow him to show these qualities.

Don't think he will be back at the previous level. Jones has taken over his role anyway, so I'm not sure how Fletch would fit in now.

I've got a sneaky feeling we will see him soon.

What with Fellaini always injured, Carrick 2 weeks away..

League cup vs Stoke would be good but even that might be ambitious.

I can't see any use for him. In February he'll be a 30 year old player who hasn't played properly for over 2 years. And we're not even talking about a player who was particularly special when he was he was at his peak. He's almost certainly going to be inferior to the player he once was, possibly significantly so.

If we've reached a state where his return is something to look forward to in terms of improving the team, we're in trouble.

This.

We must be the only so called 'big' club in Europe right now that would even be talking about a situation like this.

Why don't people give him a chance before writing him off. He's looked good in his U21s outings so far imo.

He is a fairly good backup for Carrick/Fellaini. Not more than that. But an important role nonetheless.

Problem with Fletcher is he has probably lost a big part of what made him a useful player. Having to reinvent himself after all this is a big ask. Certainly if you ask him to be good enough for Manchester United (though with our current midfield...).

You reckon we're the only set of "big club" supporters who'd care about the comeback of a loyal servant after years of heartbreakingly bad luck? What absolute fecking nonsense.

What he has to offer the first team remains to be seen but he's looked good for the u21s thus far. Write the gritty feck off at your peril.

Fletcher will have lost some of his physical prowess which was a big part of his game but I'm hopeful that even with that he could still to a good level. His passing was decent and ever improving - the season or two where he peaked he had a few Scholes-like performances. I'd take a half fit Fletcher as a deep midfielder over any of our current options bar Carrick.

Why will he have lost some of his physical prowess?

i'll have an 80% fit fletcher anytime over fellaini in our midfield.

Far too early to be writing Fellaini off like that. He's been bobbins but we haven't seen anywhere close to his best thus far. Darren Fletcher has always been a player that has to be %100 fit and firing to offer his best, he's not a magician. An %80 Fletcher was probably what we saw at the back end of 2011 and it wasn't impressive for reasons that became clear.

Just remember he was written off by many early into his United career, perhaps Marouane should be afforded the same patience.

Are you inferring that you think it's possible he will return to his previous level of fitness?

Yes, its an illness he has had, not an injury such as a cruciate ligament etc which often have an impact on pace and acceleration.
Steve Redgrave had the same illness and won rowing golds after the same operation Fletch has had.

My mother has suffered from it for years, it doesnt go away completely but the op Fletch had helps massively.

Fantastic. Great achievement by him to even get this far. A very strong character to get back. Would love to see him feature.

Very nice to see. I'll be interested in seeing what sort of shape he's in.

I highly doubt he's going to make much of a difference, but very, very good to see him get back in the squad.

Great to see. Always have a soft spot for him. Remains to be seen what he can do and can he do it to a consistent level. If anything it is a tremendous achievement to be deemed fit enough to be involved in the first team again, fair fecks to you Fletch!

I've got the same illness and I can assure you he won't be returning to the same energy levels and as this is his one of his main strengths then it doesn't bode we'll for him!

Everyone experience it differently though I assume? He has access to far better medical care then all of us too.

For the u21s he's sat more then he used to for the first team so maybe he has adapted his game to more of the Carrick role, or he's just playing to team instructions.

That's all true but the main point you've made is him changing his game he was a good player before but not top class. It's really the last thing we need is another average midfielder who is not top level. The old Fletcher by God I'd take him as he'd improve us no end but not a substandard one is what I'm trying to say.

I remember one of my favourite performances from Fletcher at Villa Park. In the FA Cup semi final, he kept a hold of Vieira when our backs were up against the wall. It would be fitting to see him get a run out there today.

You can't really compare a sport where you're sat down and is about sheer strength, to a top level footballer, but I appreciate your positivity.

I and a lot of fans thought we'd seen the last of him, so being on the bench is a big boost.
However, last time round it was a very short live and underpar comeback.

But who knows, he couldn't be at a better place for treatment!
