Is healthy "for good" ? I am ashamed to not have followed him that carefully in the last few weeks but I'm really to have seen him play again.

Happy for him. Probably worked very hard in difficult times just to get another sub appearance at the very least.

Not a bad return. His passing reminded me of our new 28m signing.

Great to have him back, I fear we may have missed the best of Darren Fletcher through his illness but I hope that turns out to be wrong.

More penetrative actually. A nice ball over the top into the box for Welbeck I think springs to mind. I thought he showed a lot of composure as he has in his U21s outings so far. It's a real lift for the fans and I'm sure the players to have him back.

Was really great to see him back, and the reception he got was fantastic.

It must have been so difficult for him, and you can see just by reading those quotes how much he must have been buzzing. There seems to be fire in his belly and that can only be a good thing for us having another experienced winner in the dressing room!.

to be honest that little spell when he was in charge of these little exchanges in the middle. we managed to pass out of trouble and create a chance because he was making himself available for a simple pass.
This. Was around the 80th minute mark I think where he came looking for the ball when the only other option for Rafael was to hoof it

Now the big question is will he be able to start a game, and if so when?

If he's starting reserve games and was able to come on today then you would think that if it's going to happen at all it should happen pretty soon.

Wednesday hopefully.

he is one of my favorite players in United team.

I love him not for his skills, which i used to be very skeptical of , but for his attitude and simple philosophy of game. Pass and run, make yourself available for you partner and never give in.

Sometimes i have a feeling i could do the same thing for any team..don't have this feeling when i watch Nani, Messi or Ronaldo ;)

The game on Wednesday is perfect in theory, but I think it's a bit too soon to let him start a game, unless we plan to take him off after 50-60 minutes.

Would be a great mental boost for him and the club if he did and he managed to last an hour. If that's all we got out of him I'd be happy and I think he's lasting more than that in reserve games.

Quite simply, we don't know what he is and isn't ready for. That's why I said "hopefully".

Hasn't he started reserve games?

Surely from here on the only way of getting that fitness back up to peak level is to actually throw him in at the deep end.

You've got to feel a bit sorry for Fellaini

Signed in the summer as our 4th most expensive player ever yet it looks like he is our 6th choice midfielder now with only Anderson behind him.

He's been in training with the first team for well over a month right? Along with the reserve games? I won't be surprised to see him start on Wednesday.

Well he was injured on Sunday and I think he's cup tied for this one. (open to correction)

I realise that but it's been pretty clear that even when not he has been behind the likes of Carrick, Cleverley, Jones and Giggs and now he's going to have Fletch ahead of him too.

Yeah. I think that he does need to get an uninterrupted run of games to let him settle in the side which is something he hasn't got. I thought he was very good actually in his last appearance and would hopefully kick on but then he goes and picks up a knock just as the door was open with Carrick being out. Sad really.

Also, if we do buy another midfielder in January which I expect us to then he could find himself further down the pecking order.

I'm not convinced it will be in January unless it is someone like Gundogan who is of the quality we need and has missed all of Dortmund's campaign so far. Spending another £25m+ on someone like Herrera who could easily make the same sort of impact Fellaini has to me is a risk not worth taking.

If Ando goes he'll replace him I think. Fletcher back is a big boost but not one I'd like to be leaning too heavily on.

Ah I don't fecking know anymore.

He'll have to do pretty well, pretty soon in order to earn that run. Carrick will be back soon and I don't think he and Fellaini are a good duo, really. The big fella really needs to step it up or the odd game is the best he can get.

It's a squad game at the end of the day. Everyone will play their part and he will get opportunities.

As people have said, brilliant to see him back out on the pitch yesterday. Received a great reception from our fans when he came on. He played well when he came on as well and looked composed on the ball. His attitude is absolutely immense.

As I say, great to have him back.

Great to see him back. But i'm not holding out much cos he could be purely playing on adrenaline. He has missed a large part of football for more than a year and it will show when he starts to play more games. Whatever it is, he's a handy option in the squad with the experience he has

I was talking about Fellaini, by the way, if it's not clear. I think I've got more faith in Fletcher after what he's been through than Fellaini. :smirk:

If Fletcher is going to have a 'real' role in the first team, for me it's going to be the Ole of midfield subs. He reads the game very well, and is intelligent in a footballing sense, so spending 60 mins on the bench will give him plenty of time to work out how he can help the team when he comes on.

I seriously doubt he'll ever be back to the 'super-fit' run everywhere midfielder he once was. Regardless of his injury, he's just older now.

To be honest I'd be happy with him just sitting there in midfield. He's calm on the ball, got a good touch and can certainly pick a pass so I don't think there's any need for him to be that box-to-box guy he once was.

There is no reason he cant get back to there. Sir Steve Redgrave came back from it to win Olympic gold in rowing. Rowing is one of those incredibly physically difficult sports, it uses every muscle. If Redgrave can do it I dont see why Fletch cant emulate Redgraves efforts regarding fitness. Fletch in an article on theScotsman website said the illness is now gone.

“Professor Sagar is the reason I am standing here today,” he said. “I am back to normal. I do not have ulcerative colitis. I am back playing football in the Premier League. I am just like anyone else.”

Was a great moment seeing him back. One of my favourite players and always held out hope he could return. There's the caveat though that we shouldn't expect to see him back to where he was previously. When he came back the first time he was playing mostly as the DM in our diamond and I think that's a realistic expectation of him. To be Carrick's backup and to be mostly sit back and keep possession. Box to box mid like he was in his prime seems too far. Even that what he'd provide would bolster our squad to no end and allow us to play Jones at CB. If he can play well for the rest of the season it should help alleviate our woes and point our focus to getting a creative CM allowing him the chance to be a great squad player.

Carrick, Fellaini, Cleverley, Fletcher, Powell and top CM I'd be fine with next season. Assumptions there about all of them except Carrick but I'm an optimist.

This. If he can get back there, great. But I'd be fine to see him doing what he was last game and providing experience and some solidity in the middle.

I dont want to be the one pissing in the punch bowl but I still find it hard to believe he is going to get back to the level required to be a regular starter for us - certainly not if he is to be the saviour of our midfield woes. I will be beyond delighted to be wrong about that, it would be fantastic to have that solution in-house and he seems like a decent bloke who has gone through a hell of a lot. It would be great for the club if the loyalty it has shown him is rewarded as well, if it encourages others to show similar commitment to players struggling with these kinds of issues. But I suspect he may need to move on to find a club more suitable for his new level. I think we need to aim a bit higher than someone who just sits being calm on the ball, or who's principal attribute is his experience. Experience is all well and good, but ideally for us we need someone with experience coupled with very high levels of ability.

Did you see him on Sunday? Yes it was against dross, and they were tiring in the last 20 minutes, but he passed the ball and buzzed around in a way we haven't seen from our midfield for a while now. If he gets back to even 75% of what he used to be he will be a serious asset for us.

I just think its easy to get ahead of ourselves after half an hour against a poor Villa side. But its true, if he gets to 75% of what he was, he will be good enough to be in our squad as things currently stand.

feck that, 75% of what he was and he'll be our key midfielder!

His biggest asset was his energy so I'm doubtfully of him getting that back. However, even if he just gets back to a good level he should provide know how and composure that some of our other midfielder lack. But I do hope if he becomes a first teamer it's as one of the "options" replacing some of the dross we have in this area who we let go of.

Basically, we still need two quality midfielders regardless and if fletcher is used as and experienced option then great. If he's one of our main midfielders, not so much.

It was good to see him back. He did take it careful and did well.

The only problem is that he has a cronic illness and with only 18 months left on his contract, that is all he will get I'm afraid. Although it would be nice to maybe put him on a year-to-year contract, I'm afraid he will not get a new contract due to his illness.
