It may be that Danny has gone to the Wayne Rooney school of contract negotiations.

He has two years left on his contract, and Cleverley just got a new contract. Jones has one in the pipeline too as I recall.

I'm guessing that Welbeck is going nowhere, but that we're going to see press reports of his wanting to leave before an improved contract is signed.

He is playing a dangerous game if that is the case. He doesn't have anywhere close to the sway that Rooney, Keano or Rio had.

Ok, so apparently we're willing to get rid of Welbeck, who is currently third choice striker, and could yet displace Rooney or Van Persie this season, leaving us with Hernandez and Wilson as back-ups? Sounds like BS to me.

From what Welbeck has shown in pre-season, I very much doubt Van Gaal would have told Welbz he can leave United. I can imagine he's a managers dream. Works hard, can play in a number of positions and loves the club he's playing for. Be so pissed if he left.

Not seen much of Wilson - would he need to make much improvement to be a better goalscoring option than Welbeck? Clearly he doesn't have Welbeck's experience at all senior levels.

We just got rid off one of the few attacking players in our squad with pace and now we are selling our young and pacey striker. Yep, makes sense! There have been million rumours about Hernandez being sold and somehow he is still here! So noway Welbeck's couple of rumours are true!

Welbeck adds more to the play, what's this more you lot keep harping on about? Hernandez scores more, is that not adding to our play?

lol, no. If we're struggling to create chances, a Hernandez who doesn't know what to do with his back to the goal is of far less use than a Welbeck who is technically superior (by a mile), and who's a far better link-up player.

Exactly. Hernandez would be sold before Danny, this is a nothing story.

Would be really pissed if we sold Danny.

Don't want to believe this story and I'm hoping it blows over. If anyone has to leave then it should be Hernandez.

And what if we are struggling to score goals then? There are 9 other players who can create goals, you don't necessarily need a striker to do that, but I get this is a popular opinion here about Welbeck, suit yourself lads.

Yeah, he's not good enough for United, it's your opinion though so that's fine.
To clarify, I meant as a starting player. From a fourth-choice striker, you can't ask for more. But I don't believe he would be able to get into the starting XI at another top club either.

It'd be crazy.

If we want to trim the squad there's a player who has been considering leaving for ages, hasn't looked at all useful in the planned system for the season - why would you get rid of the Manc lad who loves the club?

He brings qualities our other players don't. His only real weak spot is his composure, and he perhaps doesn't make the most of his pace in terms of the runs he makes. But he brings so much to the team otherwise that none of our other players do. He's a real grafter and his hounding of the opposition puts us in great positions and forcing them into mistakes up the pitch. He's so athletic and he's our only player capable of getting in behind, and one of the few who can carry the ball forward. He's a classic Van Gaal player, surely.

I call bullshit.

Oh well now you've said it twice and added such an in depth justification I've completely changed my mind.

I don't know about that.

I do, Hernandez has been awful for us for a while now. Welbeck causes problems when he's on the pitch in his natural position as demonstrated pre season. The difference in our play when Welbeck was on the pitch to when Hernandez has started is glaring. He's a far better player than Hernandez.

I think Welbeck has asked to leave and been told "no problem." This is now being reported as "told he can leave the club."

Welbeck's shown that he has a good ratio of goals scored when he's played as a proper front man, and we have Rooney and RvP, as well as Mata who certainly bags on now and again.

Did you watch pre-season? We looked a far more fluent side with Danny's one-touch passing play and then darting into space, and it's clear that he brings more to the side in terms of team play.

All irrelevant if he has asked to leave.

Why are people not considering that possibility that maybe this "manc lad" who loooves the club so much might be adamant on leaving? He was rumored to want out last season too.

Graeme Bailey from SSN says it too. Doesn't look good at all. Would be extremely disappointed with the coaching staff if this was allowed to happen. Can only assume he wants out if it's true. If we're pushing him out, then LVG has some explaining to do.

Ridiculous if we're trying to get rid. He might not be the clinical striker but he brings energy and causes problems. Would hate to see him go.

I can only imagine we have a deal lined up for a Cavani or a Falcao if we're trying to force Welbeck out. Really thought he'd suit LvG and what he's trying to do here but maybe I overestimated our manager.

No smoke without fire kind of feeling with this one I'm afraid to say. I mean, why would papers write a load of shite regarding Danny of all our players? credible sources too.

If the club wanted rid there would be no talk of only allowing him to join a club outside of the top 6.

To make it clear, I have nothing against Danny. I just don't get the notion that we HAVE to sell Hernandez instead of him, when we have the likes of Anderson and Young who do precious nothing.

If Welbeck wants to leave, then fair enough, no issues. He wants to be the main striker elsewhere. Totally understandable if that's the case. However if it's the club that has instigated it all then I'd be disappointed. If we're not letting him go to any of the top 6, I would hope he moves abroad. He can do better than the Newcastle's & Southampton's of this world imo.
