Danny Rose

I don't think his injury record will get any better here. His playing style is the issue I reckon, he uses a lot of short sprints, something that is a lot more noticeable when you watching him live. He's a good player, but the fee Spurs will want for him and his injury record makes this a terrible transfer.

Jones, Smalling, Tuanzebe, Young, Lingard and Rashford are all English whilst Pogba, McTominay, Fosu-Mensah and Pereira all also class as homegrown players so we’re fine on that front and better off than the large majority of other clubs.
And people keep saying the vast majority of those need replaced. Which means some of them will have to be replaced with homegrown players.

If we sign Rose it’s because we need a left back and we can’t keep signing foreign players. I think people forget this sometimes. We need homegrown players and those who are available and of any use are few and far between.

We've got Shaw. No need for Rose

The only issue is Jose doesn't rate Shaw, so we may see movement there.

A straight swap yes, paying the reported fees for Rose is madness

Could be right.

I do always find with these stories if a player is linked to a club through multiple newspapers someone has been tipped off from the club off the record somewhere down the line.

It's same when rumours of a manager getting sacked gets leaked in 3-4 papers and it usually then happens.

What's clear is Mourinho has stated he wants new FBs (similar to Pep last summer), Rose seems to be a player he rates and you also have Shaw wanting out and Pochettino being a manager who got excellent form out of him so potential for deal is there I think.
If I were the club I wouldn't want to be tipping anybody off about this. It just makes us look really stupid.

Shaw isn’t good enough though. So the need for a left back remains.

I'd argue that if given a chance, Shaw could prove to be good enough.

But Jose has hated on Shaw from day 1, I cant see how swapping Shaw for Rose is of benefit to us though, only in the fact jose will play Rose and wont play Shaw. So at least we would then have an actual LB playing LB instead of Young

Injury prone; risky for top dollar

Playing style a bit similar to cashley cole who was a Mourinho stalwart so can see an interest

IF he could prove he’s over the injury problems then sure he’s a very solid LB

Stop apologising for Shaw being a poor professional. A player who's been criticised by every single manager he's played under.

I've so desperately wanted to be a Shaw fan and banged the drum for a long time after his injury, but if you actually watch the guy play, it's obvious he's nowhere near as good as failed winger Ashley Young at LB, and that is damning!

And a player that Jose said, as little ago as Feb 9th, would sign a new contract and be at Utd for years. Swings and roundabouts, only time is going to tell.

I'm not too sold on the idea of Danny Rose. He's injury prone and it's not like he set the word alight.

£40-50 million, surely that's Sandro money.

If Levy gets more than £20m for Rose then he should be knighted.

For someone who is injury prone, over weight and a renowed moaner then it would good going to sell at any price.

No Danny rose for me. Rather I would have Ryan Bertrand as preferred left back.

Just read that Manchester United will have to offer £40m PLUS Luke Shaw to land Tottenham star Danny Rose this summer.

That would be terrible business if it happened. Rose is nothing special. Always injured. Can't cross a ball any better than Valencia or Young. I rather keep saw than do that shocking deal.

Ryan Bertrand is a much better option.

Wanted him earlier on, but after that major injury, he's barely had any game time. Is probably unfit and severely lacking in match fitness, worth nowhere near that amount.

He's not any better than Young at defending but at least Young is fit most of the season something which Rose has never been. He's averaged about 20 games a season, only once done more than 30 and that's not as a starter for all of them. If Tottenham gets offers they should take it. He's going to be finished in 4 years.

No way! Would rather keep Young. Sign that Fulham kid and Bertrand who's going to be going for pittance and is a decent defender.

I do quite like Rose but he’s been injured then out of form for 18 months now - nowhere near commanding a £40m fee, let alone plus Shaw, who’s had more good games in his few opportunities this year than Rose has.

It’s a shame José hates Shaw because he could at least be competent in the role until Tierney matures/fulfills more Celtic ambitions - and for that reason I’d be compelled to sign Bertrand instead, who’s actually a very good defender and better on the ball than Rose.

I'd be raging if we sold Rose and replaced him with another mega crock like Shaw. ...

I wouldn't. Pochettino would improve Shaw hugely ... and in any case he'd be understudy to Davies unless and until he shows otherwise.

And meanwhile we'd get £40m to spend on other positions.

Shaw would be a good dynamic alternative to Davies; if Shaw gets his head right, he’ll be the best in the league.

Apparently Spurs want to ship him off. With his recent injury record, it a risky buy.
But if we look at our current options Young, Rojo, Shaw, i believe that Rose even in his current condition is actually a better option than all of them. Certainly he is a defender that could at least do something in attack. While Young is converted winger, his delivery, his assists, chances created all have been very poor. Same for Valencia. Full backs at top clubs, the who forced to attack, lead the game in majority of matches are supposed to be much better in opposition half, than what we currently have.

I like Rose, I would like to see us go for him because I fear Shaw hasn’t quite got what it takes unfortunately.

Why aren’t we in for him? Get him, Aldeweireld and a RW in and I’d have us as favourites for the title.

I’ve given up on Shaw, I really want him to succeed but the guy looks like he’s forgotten how to play football

There is no way on earth we would do that deal.

Judged on their World Cup performances, I’d say that Young is currently the better player. Yes he’s 33, but he’s a very youthful 33.

Yeah I totally get that because Pochettino is like a football guru man!

Why? Rose hardly featured, but that was because of his season and injury. And Young did not look all that good, in fact, if we compare him with Trippier from other side it was evident how much Young is lacking in terms of creativity.

Yeah anybody who gives us decent money for Rose has been conned. Like @InLevyITrust says he's simply nowhere near the all action fullback he once was, he's lost that edge. He's just average now and Ben Davies is rightfully ahead of him, the injuries have taken their toll and there is no guarantee whatsoever that he will return to previous form, especially when it seems every other week he's back on the treatment table. Most Spurs fans I imagine would be glad to be rid of him, especially since he decided it was a good idea to mouth off in public about his wages when he'd just spent a significant portion of the previous season injured, and then proceeded to barely play for the next one.

It's a damned shame because him and Walker bombing down our flanks gave us so much width, they were excellent, now one has left the club and the other is broken and I imagine the club would bite the hand off anyone who offered a decent amount.

We finially agree :D, yeah he has lost that explosiveness and agility that allowed him to rub the left hand side. I’d still say we would get decent money for him, £20-30M? Davies is actually one of my favourite players, maybe not the athlete Rose was but technically better and works his bollocks off.

Rose is one of those players who had a purple patch of 12-18 months, where he was fantastic, but before and after is distinctively average.

Young was a better option for England, and he’s a better option for Utd. He’s obviously not long term, and at his age will need to be managed. Rose is not an upgrade this season.
