He’s fast and plays on the right wing? I’m sold! I don’t really like watching YouTube compilations of players so players like these are always a mystery to make, and it’s very exciting to see them for the first time, whenever that may be.

He plays left wing, but apparently we checked to see if hes comfortable on the right and he has had a few games there this season

Meh, the thing about the five signings has been briefed. And Ole has talked about how we're unlikely to make more than five, which makes sense.
It was briefed last year too.

We signed 2.

Redcafe is fun.

“We need to start signing these types of players before other clubs sign them up and he’s worth double the price a couple of years later”

United make a bid...

“Why the feck are we going for these players and not the players that are now worth quadruple the price?!?”

Sums up the transfer forum and to a large extent Football forum too.

It makes zero sense, if we can bring in 4 superb prospects at a cheap price we will, like feck we’ll then say... “oh nos, we’ve only gone one more transfer left”.

Transfers are done based on availability, requirement, departures, cost, not a finite number pre-determined midway through the previous season.

What's up with Sky? A few years back, a deal announced by Sky was as good as done. Now, even they are totally unreliable. Journalist standards have dropped a lot.
Twitter happened, gives journalists from around the world who have better and a wider range of contacts a platform to announce deals before SSN.

Also, the whole fiasco of Benatia (think it was him) being on a plane coming to United, according to Jim White, still hasn't arrived.

Not familiar with him, just watched the highlight reel seems pretty rapid, I remember way back when Sharpe and Giggs breaking through together, Giggs pace + skill stayed teh course, Sharpe got found out pretty quickly becuase he was all pace.... highlight reel indicates that he is maybe somehwere inbetween....

What is his attitude like? workrate? right now that is as important as anything else we need.

Doesn't seem to be a right wing hugger like we need, highlights show lots down the left and through the centre, still we need some positives right now and an early signing would perk things up nicely

Honestly have no clue about this guy but I doubt he’s a complete dud if were considering a bid early on. At worst he’ll be another Zaha that’s maybe not top level but worth a punt.

Sharpe didn’t get found out.

Hope we sign him and let him speed up our left side with Shaw.

I'm all for it .like what I see in the videos. We only have two players with pace at his club and one of them refuses to move.

According to someone on the Swansea forum he'll be loaned back to them next season.

His contract ends next season, if that is true we could have just waited. Anyway I think Mata and Sanchez are both out of the club and so we need someone like James in.

I've been watching Swansea play quite a lot this season and he has really been carrying their attack with his amazing pace and movement, both with and of the ball. Lost count of how many yellows and red he's caused for the opposing teams. Totally unplayable when he's at his best. Think its important for him to play regularly to keep improving and it might be a bit early for him to be in the starting 11 at united, but buying him and send him back to Swansea for a loan might be a good idea considering how quickly he's developing there.
I don't see why we should loan him back. We have a dead right flank and he is a natural there.

fecking media outlets jumping the gun for attention as usual. Only taking notice of official confirmations this summer. Sick of the nonsense

Seen him twice, at Norwich where he was always threatening, Swansea's only threat.

And Wales against Slovakia, he was very impressive for an inexperienced player.

He's got so much pace and seems to have a good understanding of the game, those two traits rarely intertwine.

I think this is a very exciting signing.

Martial - 37 games, 12 goals, 3 assists mostly in the EPL
James - 39 games, 6 goals, 7 assists mostly in the Mickey Mouse league.

Give us some running stats too while you're at it or would that not fit the narrative you're trying to push?

Last year was a mess, I’m very hopeful that we’ll do very good business this Summer as there are simply so many more ”available” options in the positions we need strengthening.

True. I am just lost as to how we have players in the market that would be a quicker snap up seemingly anyway. Like Munier (on the sale list for PSG), Rabiot for free and Alderwierald for a 25m release clause.

If we had a solid history of getting deals done I'd be fine with the order. But I can't help but think we are so inefficient, so I think the worst.

I recall opposite. Mane was massively sought after and sections of the caf were still worried about us going for Mkhitaryan instead (it wasn't about Martial. Mane was a RW prospect from Southampton).

Anyway we hoped Mkhi would be better than Mane and he wasn't. A bit like the Depay vs Firminho thing in years before.
you're right, it was Mkhi! I don't think many were worried at all, though. Most were happier were got Mkhi.

My lord man, that is no defined number of signings that Manchester United can make in one Summer ffs.
It might be 5 top players and 3 low risk cheap gambles, no-one, not even Ole or Woodward knows right now.

If an interesting player is available at the right price, United will buy him.
Of course there isn't, but if we are making five those should absolutely the priority.

What if Chong isn't anywhere near as good as this guy?

Which he isn't. Anyone who expects anything from Chong is in for a rude awakening.

You conveniently ignore that I mentioned Greenwood and went and focused on Chong. If James is a player that Liverpool, Spurs and City wouldn't consider, I wouldn't go after him. Just because 15m is chump change in the current transfer market, does not mean we should be spending money foolishly on someone who hasn't displayed enough potential to succeed. I mean he hasn't really done well in the Championship. The PL is a different ball game.

Amazed how childish your posts still are after all these years.

I remember when you knew better than Ferguson all those times... if only he'd listened to your advice maybe he'd have had some success at United

Yeah obviously, they're also done with squad balance and turnover in mind. Bringing 7 new players in, and shipping as many out is far from ideal. It's also additional fifteen milion which, I know might not seem a lot, but it's still fifteen fecking million.

Which again, as I said originally I'm perfectly fine with signing James if he is an additional, bonus signing, so please stop bitching.

It’s pennies to United, and he’ll probably be on less than half of the wages of the player he’ll replace.

Bringing in 7 new players and shipping loads out I’d argue is absolutely ideal. City have done it to great success and we need it now more than they ever did.

The same 'mickey mouse league' that produced the likes of Brooks and Neves and Jota .....so what?

Produced is a bit of stretch, they have been produced in the portuguese league and both played Champions league football.
Now I have no issue with James since I know nothing about him.
