If he is the only winger signed this summer, then people need to accept that Lingard is still going to be first choice next season.

Well if Ole is happy with that, we finish season once again outside top 4 and trophyless. He gets sacked.

Yep, simple as that. Not bothering my arse getting worked up over positions the club have failed to address for years now. Numb to it all at this point, up to Ole to show us why he’s here.

I like this signing. Kid looks quick, keeps the ball at his feet very well, and not afraid. I like his style. First of many to come hopefully.

Even if he turns into a squad player, or we sell him on in a few years time, in a market saturated by £40-60million players who are bang average, this is a good bit of business.

I've got a feeling that this might end up being the most shrewd signing we've made in a good long while.
Maybe, but we need players that are ready to step up into the first team straightaway. Let's be honest we are desperate for new players.

Solid signing. Any signing that will help keep Lingard off the pitch is a good start.

Let's hope this isn't the peak of our window :nervous:

They claimed that? Thought that was about Longstaff..
Both players I believe. Normally when they dismiss us signing a player they tend to post it about half a dozen times.

Good stuff, now lets get Maddison in. That's how we can re-build our squad with decent, hungry players who put a shift in. Get Grealish in as well. Let Pogba go for the price of a small country, and De Gea too, and spend the big bucks on building up a quality defense. There was a rumour that Napoli were interested in Lukaku, I would do a straight swap for Koulibally. Give Ajax what they want for De ligt. And let Palace have 50m for Wan Bisaka.

I agree with most of that but Grealish? I would rather be shot with balls of my own sh!te

@Ban - Last 4 pages i've only 2 negative posts and 1 of which was a tongue in cheek comment. Maybe there were loads of negative posts first thing in the morning. *shrugs*

Might be more as I didn't show Ignored content mind you.

Look, I'm sorry I'm not excited about the signing, but if you look at the young players we are supposed to be looking at to make an immediate impact, Felix, Deligt even Sancho, all at £100M, a £15/20M 22 year old Championship player is hardly someone to get the pulses racing.

What are we going to use him for, are our youth prospects no better than him?

Monaco were after him, really? They are scouting in the Championship now, are they? The same Monaco that almost got relegated from League 1? Surely our level is higher than that?

I entered this thread to make a kind remark about this lad, hopeful he goes on to be a good player for us. I then saw the suggestion that we sell Paul Pogba and effectively replace him with Jack Grealish.

It’s a funny, old world.

I know what people say about Rashford & Martial at United & their abilities - however considering that there is a possibility that this guys best position may be on the left wing aswell- I do have a feeling he is being bought purely because ex United players knocked on the clubs door about him.

If not - atleast he seems a traditional left winger which isn't what we have with two strikers playing as inside forwards.

why not we get rid of all these average players?

No one wants them, they are at a club above their station already and being paid handsomely to play average week in week out. The clubs on their actual level cannot afford the wages either.

Maddison yes, Grealish hell no!!, Pogba out no, DdG out yes. Swap Lukaka for The Beast, hell yeah. Not sure on Obe Wan Bisaka meself or De Ligt. However, Pogba has to stay or the only height and heading ability in the centre of the park is old man Matic who can't get 6" off the ground. Plus, how many headers has Pogba scored compared to the rest of the squad? Besides, Daniel James breaking into the space will give Pogba a proper target. James could be fantastic with the right feeder.

He's scored 4 in 95 PL appearances. So not many compared to anyone. Is that supposed to be an impressive amount?

A traditional left wingers is left footed. He's right footed. He looks like a traditional right winger to me who can play either side...

Has he played games out on the left as an inverted forward or as a traditional winger? He seems to have a decent left foot atleast from the little I've seen even if it's his weaker foot. Does he get much games out right? Not seen much of him but looks traditional to me either way. Just a tad question - do you think Sancho is traditional too or is it just me?

Regarding the highlighted text

1. He is 21
2. No they are not
3. No it is not.

For further clarification we have a handful of prospects who are decent but no class of 92. In terms of wide players we only have Chong who is miles behind James at this point and may never break through, we also have not signed a legitimate winger for years and are crying out for one. We just finished 6th and are quite frankly a dumpster fire, we are not shopping at the elite level right now because the best players have better options unless they are just has beens looking to get in on the Alexis Sanchez retirement plan. Championship Players have been moving to the PL and becoming stars for some time now and it is a quality highly competitive league. I know we usually let someone else sign guys like James first because we like to get hosed 12 months later when their value triples but maybe paying less and getting players earlier could work out, weirder things have happened.

Same question though, out of the rest of the squad, who has scored more headers?, that's my point. 4 from 95 is shite, however, he's a midfielder and he almost out-heads our so-called strikers. How many did Roy Keane head in, Bryan Robson, Beckham, Scholes Butt etc throughout their careers. Not prolific but we needed them and they did the job. At the moment, we have no one else who will head the ball feom the centre of the park.
