Really doubt if Chong is ready to have much impact next season. We certainly have room for both anyway

Why are you so certain James has though? It all comes down to impact hence why I don’t want James.

Please don't tell me we are going to rely on a championship player for our right wing.

I don’t get our fans sometimes....were crying out for some more talented hungry youngsters, and if they have pace to burn then great. Nothing strikes fear into defenders more then knowing your man can strip you for fun. About time we got some brutal pace into the lineup.
Years of watching Valencia has ruined people's perception of a winger

He will be an EPL player, no? Or are we gonna be playing in the championship next season?

Do you think he has the quality of a top 6 PL club winger? He might have the potential but right now he has the quality of a championship / lower PL club player.

We don't have problems with pace though. We have problems breaking teams down and creating and this guy isn't going to fix that. Just look at Rashford. He's fast, he loves to kick and run and bank on his pace being enough but it rarely is.

I agree, we need technical players that can hold onto the ball.

Don't get the big deal about him being from the Championship. Doesn't make him a bad player. See Neves for example, Championship a couple seasons ago.

Players like Chiesa and Sancho better fit the profile of young winger we should be going for IMO, technically astute with a more broad skillset. This kid reminds me of Valencia, basic knock the ball forward and run type that worked in the old days of basic/flat 4-4-2. These types of players are useless when trying to break down stubborn teams. His only standout quality appears to be his speed.

I remember when people were raving over Tom Ince at the same age, he got almost identical stats at age 22 in the championship while playing for Blackpool in his break through season. Ince managed 7 goals 6 assists in 22 games (2004 mins) compared to James 6 goals 7 assists in 39 (2507 mins). Ince was expected to be the next big thing at Liverpool as a youth player and was linked with Inter Milan but he never broke out of the championship. Im not saying it will the same with this kid but nothing suggests he has what it takes to make it in the big league.
Away with your common sense. He's the answer Goddamit!

It more that he wasn't really remarkable in The Championship. People would moan if we had signed Maddison last season or Grealish and they both look better than that level.

I don't understand - if we sign him, it's not as first choice. Don't see the big fuss.

Worst fears starting to happen. Last week I said I don’t mind the signing but I hope he’s not one we’ve earmarked for a starting role.

Window not even open yet and people are calling Ole out. The state of our fanbase....

It's crazy isn't it. The Cardiff argument is stupid - look at the difference in resources for a start. Let's see how he gets on with some new players first.

This guy maybe an answer to many problems, right now even if we have Rashford who is pacy he doesnt get space opened up because opposition defenders defend narrow knowing there is nothing to hurt them on right wing or left wing (either played by martial who is not hard working or mata lingard who are good enough to be just passengers with no penetration). Once we have a player who can hurt on one of the wing will see Rashford also getting space to attack as defence will drop back and be more wider given they know there is a player who can go outside of them and break the space using pace.

I'm not certain. How would I be? What I know is he's further along in development and has played and done well against City and played well for Wales.

How Chong will adapt to first team football is anyone's guess. Personally I think he has plenty to improve on before he's ready for it.

I can't say tbh. Only watched him once, and he was decent against a top EPL team in City. He could be a good fit if we are going 442 or a top bench option if we are going 442 diamond, seeing that we have next to no wide options.
We've got to wait and see how the team looks like next season. If we could sign many top players for other positions, then taking a punt on him for the RW position might not be the dumbest thing to do.

Chang’s analysis is exactly how i judge James playing for a club like us. We will ruin his development. Let him go to Leeds.

It’s bloody stupid. We have no quality wide options. Why add another. He best go buy one.

For 15mil it doesn't represent a massive gamble.

I've not seen a lot of him, but he is clearly extremely quick and looks decent. He has room to improve, but that's ok.

He'd suit a counter attacking team, which is what we are going to be I feel.

He's another dynamic, another option in an attack that lacks any real threat at this point. We haven't had a RW for several seasons. Mata and Lingard have been used there for 3-4 seasons and neither are good enough or wanna be there.

At least this guy can improve and is a natural in that position.

Get it done I say

He'd be a good option to have on the bench against tiring legs. Not sure why anyone is complaining about a 15m punt. It'd be a different scenario if he's bought as a first team player mind you but we should perhaps wait till the end of the transfer window before losing our shit...

Not at all against this kind of signing in theory but I am against our woeful recruitment (85-90% failure rate) if it’s the same scouting team picking this lad then sadly I see him flopping like the rest. I currently see the pace and the desire but not a lot else. We need the scouts to absolutely turn it around and I just don’t see it happening anymore.

Mail reporting that it's 10million

You're not against it but you are!! Sums up current Utd fans.

I just don't get why if he will be a good option on our right when he hardly played there for Swansea, did they already have a better right winger and if so who is he?

Doesn’t he play on the left?

If you believe Solskjaer when he says he's assessing attitude as well as ability then why wouldn't you want a driven, rapid young player with everything to prove? The exact opposite of a money-grabbing, big name marquee signing that have failed so spectacularly for us in woody's reign.

I mean, that’s OK cos we don’t have an effective left wing either

That is a problem but however bad Martial can look he is a clear upgrade on the shite on the right. If this guy is brought in to be back up on left fair enough, so we can expect a right winger signed also.
That's why I was originally hoping the James Robson (?) report was a load of bollocks.

James would be sign as a prospect not expected to be a first team regular, come on people. He is two footed (apparently) so could be good backup for both wings

If the club thinks he'll be in any way useful (or has the potential to be more than that) then for 15m I really couldn't care less. In today's market that's absolutely feck all.

Look at it this way: if he's playing for us, one of the players who have repeatedly let us down isn't. How bad a thing can that be?

So signing a kid that can challenge for a position on either makes sense. Glad we've sorted that out
