Not sure why he wasn't rested for Chelsea.
I'd imagine he won't be starting against Chelsea. Tuchel is a very organised manager and won't be leaving huge spaces in behind for James to attack. I'd imagine Greenwood will start on the right with Rashford on the left and Martial through the centre, Cavani may start ahead of Martial but I doubt it.

Chelsea 0:0 Man Utd
Since his return in the side he's been solid and showing hugh pace. MOM for me today.

Ole needs to publicly call out his treatment. Constantly getting fouled and no yellows in sight

Not the worst performance but, as I’ve said before, his inability to shield the ball or exert any sort of physical challenge on an opponent (without giving away a foul) is as bad as I’ve seen from any player in the Premier League.

He buzzes around a lot and looks busy but gets swotted away like a fly.

Our best player today. He and Bruno's pressing was immense.

Our only forward that showed desire to create. Very worrying.

Looks brighter than he did earlier in the season, but he’s honestly just no where near the level needed in games against the top six.

His workrate and the aggression in his press was fantastic, pity about the quality on the ball.

Somebody needs to make a montage of all the times he was completely taken out. Pathetic refereeing.

Still on form even if the output quality was a little bit lacking. Good to see.

I like that he's showing effort, he's obviously a limited player who shouldn't be nothing more than a squad player but perhaps now with Martial being poor we need a player like him to step up and I think he's trying to show that.

His first run in the team surprised everyone, then he seemingly stop working hard and things stopped going his way too, now at least we got a player who press and show some fight. shame he's too weak physically to lose almost any challenge, if he shielded the ball better he could be a handy player. Now he's just a transition player for us.No end product there either but perhaps he's the we have now which is kind of sad for a team like Manchester United.

Played well today and took a battering. My MOTM.

He surely be aching and sore everywhere tonight.

His work-rate is an asset, given so many players are looking tired. One super cross in the 2nd half that Greenwood should have got nearer to, and a shot from distance that was deflected wide after Rashford's super pass.

I thought he was fine, clearly put in a huge amount of effort which was important but he does need to get better on the ball (although did put in one good cross). In fairness to him the right side was not a strong point for us as AWB is not at Shaw's level in attack and McT was having a tough game and together none of them are our strongest on the ball so are prone to losing it. I'm personally not too keen on us lining up with the 3 of them too often as just think collectively they're not good enough particularly when our other attackers aren't at their best currently.

If James does play more it feels like a chance to get someone like VDB in cm and see what he can offer there if given a run as James can help provide extra cover with his energy (and not like VDB doesn't defend).

Not Man United quality. End of. Amad should have subbed him at 60 mins.

The praise for his performance here is perplexing, running around a lot should never be enough for United winger.

Exactly. We have been lulled into mediocrity by Glazernomics and not having a RW since Nani. In the PL era, we have had Nani, Kanchelskis, David Beckham, and Cristiano Ronaldo won the Ballon D'Or as a United right winger. Yet, because of managed expectations we think that someone with no technical quality, no game understanding like Dan James can "do a job."

I don't think anyone is gushing about him.

He's just the 'least shit' in a shit bunch of attackers is all.

He works his arse off but it's just not there.

All it takes these days is running around & looking passionate and the caf will love you.

our standards as a fan base as a whole have really plummeted over the last decade. Mediocrity gets praised so much.

James is a hard working lad & by all accounts a good kid, but he’s just so far off the level technically. I don’t think he can ever get there

You've seen a lot of Amad to make that assessment then?

What do you think Fergie would have done at 0-0, in a tactical game without any space behind, having not scored a goal at the top 6? I believe he would have played Amad.

I've watch Amad in both U23 games, he wouldn't have closed down players as much as James did today.

To the point for me he was my MOTM, was better than Rashford today on the other wing.

It wasn't just working hard though , he repeatedly made himself available in deeper positions to start counter attacks and he linked up well with the other players around him . He was much better than Rashford, Greenwood and Fernandes

Hard work shouldn't be praised.

It should be expected.

I thought James played well today.

Did more than any of the big names today. We know what he is and he is performing well for what we expect of him. He’s not first choice but is a good lad and good option for something different. Fingers need pointing at Rashford, Bruno and Greenwood today.

So you're saying you're as good as Fergie as a manager then?
