I have seen some awful players play for Manchester United but I think he's the worst, honestly never seen a footballer have such pace and never being able to beat players with it

His strength is pace. He is not suited to this kind of possessional football we try to implement against low level teams. James needs space to run. Counter attacking football would best suit him.

I can now see why giggs is a great player but not much for a manager.

A poor eye for talent

Doesnt bode well for him that on his first game of his second season he gets hooked at half time. I had hoped the first season would be a learning experience and now he would be showing some class.

I defend Ole a lot but James played 2 games for Wales on the left, same again in the friendly against Villa then yesterday was shoved back onto the right. Its a bit unfair on the kid.

This. He's a left winger only, never a right winger. Almost like he was played there to make a point to those upstairs.

Under ordinary circumstances would be looking to loan him now, but not sure we have that luxury.

Would be really interesting seeing him play for Leeds for the season, whilst we still actually own him.

Agreed, Dan James has been a very good left winger for both Swansea and Wales and yet Ole insists on playing him down the right. I can bare Ole but when a left sided winger who is fast and does have some good ball control is consistently played out of his natural position then he will come up short. Ole is to blame here for James' role. Yeah, he should be able to play on the right just as well but he doesn't, it's that simple. What would the caf be like if we put Martial out on the right, or Shaw as r/b and we saw how they played?

Totally agree.

I know quite a few Swansea fans who all state he is quality from the LW but not great centrally or right.

He is always a threat for Wales from LW and looks much more confident and assured.

He's unfairly becoming a scapegoat for us. Rashford has been equally poor as well and Greenwood has flaws from RW

He needs to play LW only and we will see him improve

Can't fault his endeavour, but I think he'd struggle to get minutes at any top 10 side

Weird thing to base a managerial ability on, seeing as Giggs is doing a great job with a limited Wales squad. For example Giggs supposedly scouted martial and recommended the outlay.

Built his confidence back up for Wales and then played out of position before being hauled off at half time. He has no tools from the right to hurt teams especially when playing a low block. He’s barely Prem standard in that position.

When you really think of it, this was a stupid signing. It's one thing having world class or top class options and signing James as a development prospect but in our current team we have no room for that.

His best position is also on the left and I would start Rashford or Martial every time before him there so what is the point of him. He's comfortably the worst player in our team that gets regular minutes and plays in such a vital position.

"He's unfairly becoming a scapegoat for us. Rashford has been equally poor as well and Greenwood has flaws from RW"......this is the problem for me. Our front three are very talented players, but also bein gover lauded for a spell of good performances. Rashford is consistently inconsistent, Greenwoods goals record has been amazing, but he isnt really a right winger is he and still not 100% convinced in Martial over a whole season is the man......But then with a front three that does actually have more problems than we admit, our back up is James, Lingard, Ighalo and Mata.

Simply no competition at all for them. Lingard has never been more than decent and has been poor for some time now, Mata is too old, Ighalo I never understand the praise for, hasnt really done much, just think people thought he would be awful, he has a great back story and hasnt doen anything wrong.....but James, he isnt good enough on the left and he is simply atrocious on the right. I dont buy the out of position thing at all. He was a gamble that hasnt paid off, but for me still a poor gamble. What an earth are our scouts doing? From the off, even when he scored a few goals, this is a poor verision of Theo Walcott, all he has is pace. No football brain, notricks, technical ability, final ball, decision making......within a month of him being here, when he was supposedly doing well and getting lots of praise....to me, never saw a player there, he is way out of his depth here. We seriously need a huge increase in quality on the flanks to allow Greenwood to compete with Martial up front and also competition for Rashford...James on the left even is never going to be that competition

50M in 2014 was a great money and could have got a better player who has consistency than blowing hot and cold like Martial.

If reports are true, Giggs blocked Thiago in 2013 as he thought Thiago didnt have what it has to become a UTD player.

Not going to weigh in much on that, as many other reports say moyes blocked it as he hadn't seen him enough. All speculative. In any case not sure either example of what he should be judged on in managerial terms, seeing as he is managing a team and can be judged on that

But he played against opposition that is arguably not even Championship standard: Bulgaria and Finland. People seem to forget the level of opposition he has played against in national games.

Just because he played well on the left then does not mean he will play well for us. In fact, he has played on the left a few times for us and hasn't looked any better.

He’s limited but still potentially useful If used correctly. If you’re a goal up in a game and the opposition are having to commit players forward, he would Still be very useful from the bench to either push them back or exploit the space behind. I think having a winger with limited trickery or dribbling abilities and pairing with him a full-back who doesn’t like to overlap or underlap is always going to result in an impotent flank.

Like a number of players in our squad I believe he’s a good player made to look weaker as they’re quite often paired with a partner that amplifies their weaknesses rather than offsets them.

What was Ole thinking starting FM and James on the right flank yesterday. He got that badly wrong.

Under ordinary circumstances would be looking to loan him now, but not sure we have that luxury.

Would be really interesting seeing him play for Leeds for the season, whilst we still actually own him.

Was just thinking that myself.

Very very true.

The sad thing is that we don’t have the luxury to loan a player of his quality out meaning he will still be playing games for us this season. You can see Ole is trying to strengthen in the right places but there is literally no hope until the ownership is gone. Sad really.

Great to see some level headed opinions amongst all the hate and scapegoating regularly aimed at Daniel on here. He’s a young player with plenty of potential if played in the correct position, but he is by no means a finished article. I don’t know why anybody expects him to be when the general consensus last summer was that he was signed as a squad/youth player.

For a team that relies so much on moments from individuals to score goals it’s hard to think he will ever be good enough.

Moreover as he is seemingly the first backup option you’d ideally want him to be able to contribute from either wing.

Lot of noise that Leeds want him (again), not sure how I feel about that. A loan could be good for him, a sale if we recoup our money or make a profit could be good for us but then it does leave us short

Sell him and buy Sarr who is much better

Would not mind this, would then allow us the space in the squad to go for Sancho again next season.

No we sign Sancho too fella. We sell James means we need 2 wingers in

Not having him I'm afraid, even if he was sold he wouldn't be missed as I feel we could adapt the team formation wise that would make us better than having him in the side.

Aside from the comedy players we've had over the years, Bebe, Dong, Bellion etc..

He's the worst player I've ever seen wear the shirt, he's pathetic. Kick and rush football has no place in the Premier league and they've got him sussed.

I've watched the Championship and I don't see many like him playing in that league either, it's almost non league style play, kick and run. Premier league defenders don't even give him a chance.

Why bother signing him if ole is not going to play him in his favoured position on the left? How many times does he have to have awful game on the right for ole to stop playing him there?

Maybe just maybe Ole didn't want him in the first place, you ever considered that?

Maybe he is equality shitty in the left? I dont know why is there a belief that James is a shitty winger just because he's being played on the right when last season his best moments came from precisely the right wing.

He and his pace aren't going anywhere. He can play in his preferred position as backup when we get someone decent on the right. Until then, let him play wherever he fits in.

Martial and Rashford drop considerably when switched to right yet we expect James to somehow perform well when moved to the right.
