He doesn't fit how we want to play, we're no longer just a counter team, we should let him go to a team more suited to his ability and style. All round poor transfer

We rejected it????
Sounds like Ed rejected it. It came out last night that Ole wants to sell him to Leeds, they are offering 25m and Ole wants that cash to go towards the Sancho deal, however Ed said no, that it reflects poorly on the club getting rid of a young player after only one season.

Or so the club mole says.

I don't think its a poor transfer if they can make the money back, which they should considering Bielsa seems to have a man crush on him. They took a punt that looked quite good at least for a few games but didn't work out in the end.

What an idiot. He’ll be offering him a bumper contract next like the rest of the deadwood.

He's a fecking moron. He has no right to make any footballing decisions at the football club. That is why we are a laughing stock the world over with this ass clown running the club

Predicament being, there has never been any intention from the board of spending £120M on Sancho. If you think getting £25M for James gets that done, it will likely just leave us with 1 less body come the end of the window..

The aim is to win titles not make 5m on a transfer. Especially as you also have to factor in wages paid (and a years worth of development cost)
It is a poor transfer because we have wasted a year on a player most knew wasn't good enough before we even signed him, its not about cost but the cost of the time, it will have set us back since we now need to get 2 wingers in if we shift him not one (or maybe that is even 3 and not 2)

Its also a poor transfer since he mainly operates on the LW and what we needed was a RW. All round it was one that didn't make a lot of sense given what we needed, his experience and quality, and what else was available. For instance someone like Bowen from the same league who was clearly outperforming James, or even Eze (even though again he was mainly LW) would have been better punts if we wanted to take a risk on someone from the championship

James also took development and game time away from others

This is why these "stories" come out of nowhere because our fanbase is so naive that they'd gobble up any bs out there as long as it's pandering to their need to find reasons to berate the club.

Why should all these stories be taken at face value and be treated as fact? Have people not figured out by now that right now it's easy to spread any negative story about United and have it treated as gospel because it feeds in the current negative narrative.

How about using some common senses rather than jumping on any stories painting us in a negative light. Some people don't even realize they're being taken advantage of due to their incredible credulity to drive clicks for any random negative stories about United.

I know that most people think that we are where we are because of some cynical financial master plan by the evil genius Ed but the reality is that you don't need to spend the type of money that we spend on fees and wages just to finish fourth.

We aren't failing because the Glazers dont want to win we are failing because they can't run a football club. I don't believe that we broke transfer records for players like Pogba just to finish fourth! We tried to spend our way out of trouble and failed spectacularly.

A club that just wants to finish in the CL places would just get itself a top DOF like Campos, headhunt a good coach, some top scouts and hand him the cheque book and say 'here you have £60m to spend per year net, get us CL football and we are good'. He'd do that on a fraction of what we are spending right now.

Think, think think, RedCafe. Qui bono? Who actually benefits from the way this club is run? Is it just the Glazers? Why does Woodward not hire a DoF when surely all sorts of footballing people around him are telling him he can have his cake (lower spending/Glazer dividends) and eat it too (competitive team)? Why, why does he persist with the high-spending model?

Is is truly Hanlon's razor (he just doesn't know football)? Or is it that plus something else?

If the leak comes from Ole's side, it makes Woodward look kind of bad (everyone in world football knows that dumbass knows nothing about football). If the leak comes from Woodward's side, it also makes him look bad (the former plus, 'is this mofo who has tried to hide behind the claim that he doesn't interfere in transfers, leaking that he interferes in transfers'?).

Which is more likely?

This is another case on hanging on a player thats clearly not up to it for too long. We should sell, anything around his initial cost should do it.

We hang on to poor players for too long, thats how we end up having a squad of players like Rojo, Jones, Lingard, Pereira, etc. All those players could have been shifted years ago, but no for some reason we need to keep them for years until we, and every other team on the planet, know for sure theyre shit.

Bottom line we can make all the excuses we want for James, about his dad, comming from the championship, lack of confidence, playing out of position ,etc. All those excuses were made for the players I mentioned before, I remember Rojo being excused because he was a LB and not a CB, Pereira was a RW, then CM, then a CDM, then CAM. Same with Lingsrd. The reality is the kid is not good enough, lets not waste our time.

Why did SAF want Gabriel Obertan?
At a younger age Obertan was extremely promising but then he started struggling. His coach Blanc thought that his issue was mental - Fergie took a punt on him, assuming that a change in environment might fix the issue.
It didn't work out as planned.

I wouldn't have us sell him right now to be honest, we need depth and his pace can work against teams where we are set up to counter.

People forget how well he started, and I wouldn't be surprised if psychologically he's struggled with expectations in his first season and also the loss of his dad just before he signed for us.

I was watching highlights of last season and had completely forgotten how he played 90 minutes in both of our league wins against City. Seems a long time ago now.

What I like about him also is he seemed quite good defensively, even though he's failed to show that as much post-restart.

So we are fault for this? Oh, come on man, you are really going to far now with your agenda about Ole and Ole in and out people. In every topic you try to push that debate. Believe it or not, it is not everything about Ole. And lets leave that topic for threads about him.

And funny enough, when we had Jose in and Jose out situation (btw, were you anti Jose or you supported him? ;)) for most of players anti Jose crew blamed Jose. Now nobody is blaming Ole for any player. Just opposite. He takes credit for Rashy, Greenwood and Bruno for example but no blame whatsoever for some other players who don't perform.
James is just not good enough to be United player. Even wizard like SAF would have problems to make him useful.
If you think that he is United quality then you are the one who is actually indirectly blaming Ole, right?

Glad it's not just me who's noticed. Insufferably tiresome from a poster who should do much better.

“He started great”

No, he didn’t, he scored 3 goals last August. That’s literally it. He’s done nothing since. Some of you have unbelievable patience. He’s looked like a make a wish competition winner for over a year now, we are supposed to be the biggest club in the world, this kid is clearly miles off it.

So he had a good start?

Eh? He started so well that you even started a thread saying Rashford shouldn't play as LW ahead of James and also one more thread saying how "James is exposing our stars"

Both from over a year ago. He’s done nothing since then. People continue to give him the benefit of the doubt based on about 5 games over a year ago.

So he started well, that was the point.

Not many are giving him benefit of doubt, it's that you are trying to rewrite your thread completely now. He started so well that you made 2 threads to shit on our players, now you have changed your tune saying his start was not good.

Even in his "good start" he was ordinary. Only difference was that he scored few goals and that papered over his performance. Sale with first refusal or sell on percentage is good deal if we can bring someone to improve upon him. This attitude of sticking with average player is the reason why we languishing so below the top 2

Doesn't make the bench today. He must be off.

To fair I don't think he deserves to make the bench, maybe he's been dropped rather than left out.

I'd love him to be sold though, he's become a comedy figure and we don't need any more comedy figures at the club.

He didn't make the 18 last weekend either, but then started midweek.

Some of the opinions on James are horrendous.
A young player pivotal last season in some big games with a bright start too, has loss of form.

He simply needs time and games and he'll be a very valuable squad option.

Stone has confirmed the Leeds interest. They made a final bid over the weekend which we rejected. Were willing to take him on loan or sign him for a fee. Seems a bit odd considering he currently can’t even make the match day squad and Cavani/Dembele will just make that even harder for him to do.

It’s the 9.17am update:

Just came here to post that too. Honestly quite bizarre, only reasoning must be that he's so cheap (transfer + wages over his contract) that it's a bigger risk letting him go to another premier league club than keeping him at United and hoping he somehow turns things around.

Combined with the fact that we aren't signing any wingers at all (Sancho off and just cannot see Dembele joining), he's also needed regardless of overall quality.

With all the YouTube clips of Amad being posted, I thought I’d redress the balance and remind you that we already have a similar player who is already at the club.

Nah, not true. The three goals were misleading over his goal threat and he’s never looked an effective inside left, but actually he had several months where he looked a promising right winger. His best asset for me is his ability to make a pass or cross on the run. Go to Understat and look at the analysis of his games from October to December 2019. He delivered very good expected assist numbers and racked six up.

Everyone, and I mean everyone, signs, has a promising period at United and then regresses. See Maguire, AWB, Bailly, Pogba, James... These are talented players who are being misused and having to operate outside of an effectively coached structure. I can see exactly why James is wanted by Leeds and Bielsa, because he could be a real asset with focussed guidance and a simplified game.
