here we go. Lack of coaching.

the recent Caf trend to blame everything on coaching, and if all our players were coached, suddenly they would all be better.
I wonder how good a player I would be with a bit of this 'coaching' and 'patterns of play' drilled into me. Championship level at least the way people talk on here.

James was a punt from the Championship where he was barely one of the standout players. He's had his moments but he's never going to be the level we need it's clear to see.

Is he really not good enough or just not being coached well? My money's on the latter.

There are too many players in our squad that appear to lack direction and understanding in their play and the team as a whole show no particular patterns of play. Seems like a problem with the coaching (or lack of) rather than the players not being of the required standard.
Yeah I think it’s the lack of coaching patterns of play or falling foul to ineffective substitutions that has held James back.
Though it could also be his lack of understanding of pitch positional play or inability His coaches instructions on how to execute the press?
Maybe he’s just too old for PE lessons and only responds to managers who’ve never won anything like Nagelsman or Pochettino.

Will get a lot of abuse from fans if we fail to land Sancho. It's quite poor that we leaked this. It's not his fault that we bought him. Giggs should never be consulted again for anything football related
Giggs manages to get a tune out of him.

Agreed. I’m not sure why so much focus is given on him, when he was bought in as minor squad player.
It’s all basically agenda driven bullying from the OleOUT crew that have created this entire negative atmosphere around him.

He is not even good enough for a "minor squad player" role and was quite expensive considering he came from the Championship. However you are right, focus should not be on him because it's not his fault he is a Manchester United player and plays fair few games for us.

Seems like Leeds think he could be PL standard?
Plus he is still so young. Many players only make PL grade around age 23.
Perhaps we shouldn’t have signed him, but some fans over analyse him, and it’s often to make another point.

So we are fault for this? Oh, come on man, you are really going to far now with your agenda about Ole and Ole in and out people. In every topic you try to push that debate. Believe it or not, it is not everything about Ole. And lets leave that topic for threads about him.

And funny enough, when we had Jose in and Jose out situation (btw, were you anti Jose or you supported him? ;)) for most of players anti Jose crew blamed Jose. Now nobody is blaming Ole for any player. Just opposite. He takes credit for Rashy, Greenwood and Bruno for example but no blame whatsoever for some other players who don't perform.
James is just not good enough to be United player. Even wizard like SAF would have problems to make him useful.
If you think that he is United quality then you are the one who is actually indirectly blaming Ole, right?

Lack of coaching blah blah blah. He was thrown In too soon, on cloud 9 after his first few games but since then it’s gone very badly wrong.

The lad is out of his depth, nice kid but anyone who has played the game and has a good grounding in football can surely see how weak he is. It’s not a confidence thing, it’s just down to ability. To me he is on a par with Bebe but with less end product.

Shame for him but Sorry Dan, time to go out on loan and improve or move on.

Love it. Slightly disappointed you didn’t talk about ceilings, but then perhaps your not a plasterer.

My point on James is he is often used by OleOUTer’s as evidence of Ole’s poor recruitment strategy, when he shouldnt ever be part of that discussion. His signing was a gamble which would take several seasons to see if it worked. But he gets criticised as through he is a key squad member, which he only became because we have such an unbalanced squad.

even if the gamble fails, it’s no big deal and certainly not worthy of the criticism and airtime that he gets.

I was pro Mourinho til his last weeks, when his position because untenable, through no fault of his own. I will always believe that he was set up to fail when he wasn’t backed in his final window and his sacking set us back several years from winning our next title.

If calling Dan James shit is a sign of insecurity than 3/4 of the fan base would be on suicide watch, because I was light on him compared to many fans.

Im very secure in myself, I have 2 eyes & can see that Dan James is not up to it. I don’t care about his stats, the eye test doesn’t fail. He’s not a PL level footballer, and nowhere near United level.
Clearly nonsense when other PL managers want him. 2 coaches by the way that were suggested as united coaches not that long ago.

james is a good winger, but played out of his position. He’s a left winger not a right winger.

whether he’s good enough is debatable but I’m gonna cut him slack since it’s his first season in the top flight, his dad died and he’s out of position in a lopsided team

he’s certainly not the biggest spot that needs to be squeezed

15 mil is not gamble and don't forget that he took minutes from other players like Chong or Gomes.
For Jose; i agree in everything.

Maybe not a gamble but it is a developmental signing not the finished article at that price, early returns suggested we had found a diamond but in the end he was a player with less than 50 games at Championship level under his belt and badly in need of coaching and development which I don't think he had due to being pressed into full time first team duty instantly. Yes he did block Chong a little but that is not the players fault, it was a coahces decision and time will tell on that score. He was not really blocking Gomes as Gomes is not a wide player.

What are we even thinking about? James has been quite poor apart from his first month or so. It's very rare for a United player who is not a starter to go for such a huge price. Use that money to get the Sancho and Telles deal over the line! We have Greenwood and Lingard as cover anyway for the RW position and we could easily get a new squad option in January if we need to.

There's no chance they've offered 25mil, couldnt be possible.

Take the £25 million and run, he’s not going to be Utd quality. Problem in we are too incompetent to replace him.

For £25m he should be sold

At minimum he needed a loan, he’s stalled at United.

If the offer's true, no way we reject it

Thank god. The funds could be used effectively and would be good business on what we brought him for. Even though I’m sure Swansea would have put a sell on clause if they was smart.

Thats fine, we cant counter against the majority of teams, Leeds can

That’s what most people can’t see.

some fans are very harsh on him. He’s a counter attacking player, playing in a team that doesn’t play to his strength, and we play him out of position on the right.

if we dont Get a right winger in, then we need him for the season.

if Leeds have bid for him, That’s the key reason why we wouldn’t have accepted a bid (yet).

25m is much more reasonable. If we sell him for 25m pounds but we are guaranteed to get Sancho then take it all day no brainer. James was supposed to be a short term Sancho’s alternative last year because we couldn’t get him.

First negotiate the 120mE fee with Dortmund, if they agree then sell James to Leeds for 25 mP. If Dortmund are still adamant that they aren't going to sell Sancho even for 120mE, then no need to sell James in this window.

Take the money.

Do I think James will improve? Yes. Do I think he will improve so much we will come to regret selling him? Nope. He's nowhere near a title chasing wide forward / Winger. Hes got so many flaws to his game. Not good enough on the ball and struggles against a low block

If Leeds offer us £20m or more then take it.

But aren't we supposed to be strengthening our squad?

Why sell off our depth?

And watch Bielsa turn him into a counter attaching beast.

True but that will be more likely be down to james finding his proper level with a mid to lower league table team, rather than being good enough for team expected to win major trophies.

We could always put a buy back clause in his contract like so many clubs do these days at around 50 million for if he does turn out to be world beater (doubt it though)
