Great finish and a few other decent shots and decent crosses. Still had some poor moments but overall our best player today

I doubted his final ball in pre season but damn he's proven me wrong. Looks a very good player and we've got someone who is dangerous at long range shots which is a bonus. Can't be expecting the lad to carry us though but he's been the real surprise so far this season.

Fast becoming the signing of the summer. Didn’t see second half but great goal and looked good first half.

Lovely goal and put the ball into so many dangerous areas (shame we didn’t have a poacher on the pitch). Great attitude from the lad, fecks things up jumps back on smile on his face and straight back into the fray.

Great goal aside, a bit of running fast, beating a man, and getting a quality cross in, who'd have thought it could be so simple, shame we don't have the same quality up top to match and capitalise on it.

Only player that deserves pass marks today. Fantastic strike for the opening goal.

The one player right now we cannot afford to lose to injury/suspension.

Lacks the real quality on a number of occasions but he's still the best player out there. A disgrace to the others really. A fine performance from him today though and looks to already be getting a bit stronger. Unbelievable pace and such a huge asset for defensive recoveries. A lot of room for improvement in the end quality but he's getting himself into so many positions that some will come off. A bit like a younger Sterling, will feck up many chances but he gets himself into so many chances that he just needs to take a couple and he'll be fantastic.

I like his attitude, keep trying out stuffs, and keep running and keep shooting at good positions. He got 3 goals in last 4 games, totally deserved it.

He may well have had a good start but I'll stand by what I originally said which is that his serious limitations will be heavily exposed in time.

Thank god for him because he's the only thing providing any joy in watching this United team at the minute. He's also shouldering far more responsibility than a 21 year old who's just joined the club should, which speaks of both his metality and that of his more senior teammates.

Played well, shining light in an otherwise disappointing game.

Those calling him a championship kick and run merchant must feel silly.

Reminds me of Gordon Hill.
“He shot, he missed, he must be fecking pissed Daniel James, Daniel James”.

Every time he gets the ball you think he might do something unlike most of the others.
Great start in a struggling side, keep at it lad.

Lukaku would have done well with James service. Rashford is clueless in the box.

Its good that he's stepped up and settled so well, but its worrying that he's arguably been our best attacker this season.

Fantastically taken goal today. Didn't know his shot technique was so good. He had other good efforts too, and it seems he has a good left foot on him.

One of the few positives today.

There were at least 20 pages of one poster going about him being a kick and run merchant despite having never watched the lad play.

James has probably already added £35 million to his value already.

James and Wan-Bissaka are easily the first names on the team sheet at the moment.

I really wouldn't bet too much money on that. Lukaku was shot as a player, and is now just a tap in merchant.

Really good today, his best performance for us, no surprise it’s from the left side.

Loved in the 2nd half how he kept on running down the outside, giving 1-2s and driving behind. He doesn’t cut back either crosses straight away with his left.

Just a shame nobody is ready for them.

Typical caftard. They re the reason why a good manager should ignore most of what the fans say.
Most of them are clueless, commenting without having enough knowledge.
I remember Alex Ferguson getting slated by the fans almost every summer. And when you remind them that he still was the most successful manager on the planet they still argue that he was wrong and they are right.
Highly opinionated pricks. This place is full of them

And Maguire, very happy with these 3 purchases.

Yes ...he might also have miscontrolled the ball and then put his hands up.
We saw enough of him. Thank you
He is a more reliable goal scorer than anyone we have. Like it or not.

And here we are with no one to put the ball in from 4 yards.

A real positive from today , not only the goal but some great crosses as well , if only we had someone who could convert them.

But we would create less chances with him on pitch, because it s like we re playing with 10 men, especially when we don't have possession

It was such a classy goal. He can become some player, really showed us something there.

Great goal. Actually seemed like the only one willing to take a shot for us. Some good crosses too from the left.

Teams will start doubling up on him soon.

Which isnt the worst thing as it frees up somebody else. The problem however will be that somebody else is likely to be Lingard.

Rashford is in danger of being benched by this kid when Martial gets back. If Ole has any sense he will keep playing James in the left.

It's weird how he's suddenly become a genuine goal threat. He only scored 4 in 28 starts in the Championship and on the tour he didn't look convincing in the final third.

I like that he really went at them, sometimes it didn't work but superb strike for his goal and two other decent shots. Shame our attackers couldn't get on the end of his dangerous cross across the face of the goal towards the end.

Too soon for his agent to ask Ed to triple his wages? I wouldn’t have thought so.

He looks levels above our current attackers which is extremely worrying if you think about it.

Very good goal and good shots on target. The only positive at the moment as our other young talented guys aren't getting a look in.

Yeah, wouldn't be the worst thing, need a bit more quality all round though.

Fantastic goal. The kid scores some lovely goals. I still see James as an impact player, though. Hence why he drifts in and out of the game. Once Southampton got their wits about him, he threatened less but I'm fine with that - he's scored 3 in 4 now and none of us expected such an immediate impact. I do see him becoming a first team regular very soon though. If he can continue to develop and add more across the pitch/90mins, he's an extremely great signing. Bargain so far and perhaps our only bright spot so far.
