My last post of the day, Some of our fans need to get off his back, It's been a whirlwind year for him, His father passed away before he joined us, He's mentally struggled with his father passing away, Cut him some slack.

Had a decent last game. If he keeps his head down and focus on passing and finding the target man - instead of blindly shooting - then he can be a very good squad player.

That's so funny, love seeing the spirits high!

Also, in before he gets criticised.

Agreed. Showed some nice touches and plays on the half turn which we haven’t seen since he was carrying our attack while Martial was injured and Rashford was out of form.

He's definitely better on the left than the right unfortunately.

While he can play on right it's only really when we have space/counter attacking. His movement is much better from the left.

Good post. The kid just needs space and time to see where he goes. He's a squad player. Let him have his moment and if he isn't good enough I'm sure he'll be phased out abruptly.

Im sure in a couple of years he'll be one of those "great servants of the club" you know those players that were never good enough but stayed for so long and played with guts and determination that you feel sorry to call them for what they really were bang average who we should have shipped out earlier.

James is in the ideal position for his development now. He’s never going to be a top bracket player but could become a very useful squad option and it’s good that he can now be away from the limelight instead of being relied on like a first choice player.

This is his second season in his career, first in PL after signing from championship. Made 9 goal contributions in PL and 11 overall at around 220-240 mins per goal + assist, playing on RW when he was playing well as LW for Swansea and ManUtd, yeah he is having poor months but people can't wait to shit on any player when they are down.

If he kicks on, same posters will always try to find excuse to have a go at him.

First season, 3 goals and 6 assists in PL, including goal vs Chelsea, assist vs Liverpool, ManCity, and Everton.

Yeah he should do better but it's good enough for a squad player. If he doesn't kick on to be better player then we should off load him.

Aston Villa 0:3 Man Utd
Looks far more dangerous from the left. He should be back up to Rashford on that side.

Sancho can be back up to Greenwood on the right.

Better on the left. One nice cross to Rashford. Wish he'd make decisions quicker, I know it's harsh to criticize him as he was fouled but on that play he could have played in a wide open Rashford about 2 seconds before getting clipped.

He is a perfect player as an impact sub. He must improve his crosses though but overall I have found him impressive.

Yeah, noticed that too. Looked lively though. We were a bit disjointed once we'd made all the subs, so hard to evaluate individual performances from the bench.

I'll say it again. He's much more of a threat coming from the left with pace at the 75th minute

Yeah imagine having to deal with that after playing rashford before. Relentless pace. I don’t think he is ever top drawer but he is willing, and he is actually much better coming from the left

The guy could do with a start.
Not sure we can afford it though. But I am loving his impact late in games

He needs to improve his decision making a lot to be a starter. He looks a bit like Adama Traore from a year ago, but without the strength to go with the pace. Makes poor calls in the final third, doesn't look up enough, passing leaves a lot to be desired. But then again, he's young, it's his first season in the PL, and he's been through a lot personally.

I feel confident that he has the attitude to get better over the next couple of seasons, after which he could be a valuable player. But there's time for that, and till then he's a useful squad player who can come on late and trouble defences with his sheer pace. If he's in form, he can get us a goal or an assist from time to time as well.

Also, he's better on the left than on the right.

Think he's trying a bit too hard at the moment, it is difficult trying to make an impression with 20 odd minutes mind.

He was coming a bit too deep looking for the ball for me.

Started well off the left, but didnt understand why he and Rashford swapped over. James would have been better staying off the left hand side.

A goal would do him the world of good

He should stop trying to be a striker. His job is to create. Giggs was never a striker. Once he understands his primary job he is going to improve.

There's a space for this kind of player in a well managed squad. Darren Fletcher and John O'Shea weren't world beaters but they had great importance.
The ideal squad has a handful of these players, usually subs, sometimes they get their chances in a run of starts, and that's the way it usually goes.
"Constellation" squads so often crumble because they are full of ego drunk primadonnas.
So while I agree with your assessment that James is that kind of player, but I disagree that these players remain in the squad just because they are likeable hence everyone looks the other way.

Seen some rumours doing the rounds today that we'll let him leave on loan this summer if we sign Sancho. Would seem kind of odd tbh. If he's deemed not good enough then we would just sell him surely. Why bother loaning him when he can just stay as a squad option, albeit I don't see him getting much game time.

Lingard and Mata are likely to go this summer. So more than enough games to go around, I don’t see James going anywhere either on loan or sold.

Personally if Sancho comes here I find that Daniel James's time is lowered significantly.

They are both the exact type of player but Sancho is a significantly on a different level or higher quality. Sancho is a more deadly finisher, a better dribbler and a better crosser who looks up before he makes a decision. They are both right footed wingers capable of playing on both sides of the pitch with arguably both being a little bit better off the left wing naturally cutting in.

I think with how well Greenwood is doing on the RW - James is 3rd best in that position if Sancho comes and arguably 4th best on the left wing with Sancho, Rashford and Martial being better than him from there.

I can see James going on Loan because we are overcrowded with LW players and we could open up space for a left footed RW trying to possibly cut in like Chong to develop instead of Daniel James.
